Even better, add it to Minecraft! If... it's added...
I actually suggested this and a suggestion of my own to be made into a mod! I'm glad that asking for mod concepts is a thing. And it WOULD be better if it was added to Vanilla, but for now.... Chocolate Minecraft is our solution...

Great idea! This would be super helpful. One thing I'm wondering though, is when you say "throw it in water" do you mean place it in water? Or do you mean literally throwing the item itself underwater? Placing it would make more sense IMO.
Huh, this is actually a pretty decent suggestion. It's been a fairly long time since I have seen one of these... This suggestion certainly has my support.
It's been a while since I've clicked the like button for a post, but wow. Simple, useful and also manages to confuse me as to why this hasn't been implemented yet. Genius suggestion. Full support.
Support. Despite the fact that I'd rarely use it (sponge IS hard to get, y'know), others -those that have a great difficulty with the Nether- would certainly use it.
Awesome, thanks for giving me the go ahead to use your idea. It was fairly simple to implement actually. There were a few issues I ran into however that Mojang would also have when implementing this idea. The sponge code checks for blocks which are connected to each other. While it is possible to check if a block is lava or fire, and if the two are connected, fire blocks are almost never actually touching lava blocks in the game, and when they are, they're quickly extinguished by the lava. I believe the reason for this is that an actual sponge doesn't absorb things it is not touching, and also to minimize the impact this would have on performance. In my implementation of this idea I decided to follow suit and implement it in that way.

Please link a download to the mod when you're ready. I'd like to use it myself.
Great idea! Maybe it could create obsidian or a new item called obsidian shards that can be crafted in a 9x9 pattern to create obsidian? It would make obsidian renewable. Not my suggestion, your choice.

Full support! The sponges are rare the soul sand not so it's balanced.

This could certainly be a mod. If the author of this topic would wishes, I could certainly create the mod for everyone.
Farewell everyone o/

You mean..
Anyway, I think this would be useful. I could make a firestation and chock the chests full of soul sponges!
I'm white. Not asian.
I would gladly do this, provided it was okay with the OP. I don't want to advertise my work on their thread.

Or through a PM directly to me works.

Fine by me. Just so long as you leave a mention of the concept or whatever.
