Currently, rabbits are less than useless when alive; they don't aid the player in anyway, besides dropping meat and potion ingredients upon death... This doesn't seem to fit Minecraft, as all other farm animals have a use when alive; chickens lay eggs, cows provide milk, pigs provide transportation, sheep provide wool, and mooshrooms provide mushroom stew and milk... I suggest giving rabbits their own use as well, by allowing players to tame them as pets.
Taming
Rabbits currently can be breed with carrots, golden carrots, and dandelions... But why waste gold on a mob that you will end up killing in the end? I suggest for rabbits to only be breedable with carrots and dandelions, but allow them to be instantly tamed with golden carrots (meaning that one golden carrot is enough to tame one rabbit).
Upon being tamed, rabbits will begin following their owners, and even teleporting to them if they fall behind... Players will also be able to make their rabbits sit, to keep them from wandering off.
The Usage of Tamed Rabbits
What is the point of taming a rabbit...? Wolves defend you by attacking enemies, while cats scare off creepers. I suggest for a far different use for rabbits; they should attract zombies.
So what's the point of wasting gold on a mob that will simply attract more enemies? Well, if a rabbit sees it's owner nearby, being attacked by zombies, it will teleport to him/her. Upon teleporting, the rabbit will then run away from its owner, with the zombies chasing it (they would rather chase the rabbit than the player)... Instead of attacking the rabbit, however, the monsters will simply stare at it, giving the player a chance to attack. If a player attacks one these mesmerized monsters, they all will begin attacking the player (keeping this from being too over powering)... After the monsters have stared at the rabbit for more than 30 seconds, they will resume their attack on the player; if the player is not within their range of sight, they'll simply continue staring. If the rabbit is already with a group of zombies, and sees its owner being attacked again by zombies, it will teleport back to its owner, restarting the process.
Tamed rabbits that are sitting won't attract any monsters, but will still rush to their master's aid if he/she is attacked by a zombie.
Non-tamed rabbits will also attract zombies, but will not lead them away from the player. These mesmerized monsters will still attack the player if he/she comes within their range of sight, though.
Why Would this be Useful?
If a player is constantly dealing with monsters at night, he/she can tame a rabbit that will lead a great deal of monsters away; these players will no longer have to deal with zombies, which make up a large portion of the monsters that spawn at night.
Players who enjoy fighting can make a rabbit farm, which would attract more opponents... As these enemies aren't rendered neutral by untamed rabbits, they would still pose a challenge in battle.
Rabbits could also make gameplay somewhat more challenging... If a player is in a biome with rabbits at night, he/she may stumble upon larger groups of zombies, as many zombies will be attracted to certain points, due to the rabbits. This would mean that instead of a group being spread out across the biome, the group would meet at the same
point.
Not to mention, players will still be able to use rabbit farms as a source for food and potion ingredients.
Currently, Rabbits don't really have much of a use... They simply are a new kind of farm animal; breed for food and potion ingredients. I suggest giving them another use, by allowing them to be tamed as pets...
You're doing the classic contradiction here, which is the "these don't have much of a use, except... their uses..."
I was gonna quote each part of your post, but this new forum layout is absolutely horrible and breaks quotes like no one's business, so I'll keep it general. It's a decent idea with some moderate balance, but this comes out to be a pure upgrade of a Snow Golem. This is also a strange thing for a rabbit to have, you wouldn't think that a rabbit would have "hey hostile mob, look at me!" powers, but we have stranger things in the game.
I'm not sure if I support. This is useful, but I think it's a bit overpowered.

Rabbits were tameable, but that feature was removed too quickly, and I think this use is actually quite helpful for the player. I should also suggest that when the zombies/skeletons follow the tamed Rabbit, there should be a duration during this, just to keep it a little more balanced.
It seems VERY overpowered have both zombies and skeletons always follow rabbits no matter what. With cats added, there will be no threat apart from spiders, and they are passive during the day!
Although, I can see some upsides with this. If they still attract zombies and skeletons when they are sitting, you could make a zombie/skelly farm with spawners.

I think you have a good idea, but in my eyes it is overpowered as well.I do not see how one rabbit can attract two different mobs. Cats only scare away one, so why should a rabbit attract two? Also, zombies if you think about it are complete idiots. They only are attracted to a source of food, so if it does not attack what it is attracted to it does not make sense to me. (But, not much of anything in Minecraft does to me. XD) No support from me for now.
I modified the introduction a little; evidently while proofreading, I didn't notice the major contradiction in the text... I also limited the use of a tamed rabbit a little; they will only attract zombies, and each zombie will only be mesmerized for 30 seconds (to make rabbit owners a little less over powered)... Tamed rabbits will not attract monsters when sitting, in order to make monster farming a little harder. As for the taming of Killer Bunnies, it would probably be possible with datatags, but not in vanilla survival; Killer Bunnies don't spawn naturally, and they would probably kill the player before he/she can even attempt to feed them.
point.
I love this idea, and BUNNIES! Full Support
(Seriously, I love bunnies)

Partial support.
Hmm, on the fence for this one.

I like it! though I think rabbits should only be able to replace one type of mob... Skeletons or Zombies..
Choose wisely...
