Would the Prismarine Star go through the entities it hits, and just hit as many as it can? Or does it return after it hits one mob?
How many blocks can it go before it stops and returns to you? Can it be enchanted? If so, what enchantments can go on it?
How much damage would it do when it hits the target in boomerang form? What would it look like?
I feel this weapon is overpowered in general. It is (unenchanted) tied with the most powerful weapon in the game, and it may be stronger than the bow. Even being expensive, it seems like it is more powerful than it should be.
To (maybe) improve this suggestion, maybe make a star that +6 swing damage, and +4 ranged damage, and one that is +4 swing damage, but +6 ranged.
It could be many weapons in one, but still not overpowered (In my opinion). It would balance it out, and with my method effectively adding in two of the same item, just different. (That sounded better in my head, now it just makes no sense.)
Anyway, Minimal Support. It is too strong, and there are many unanswered parts of this weapon.
Sounds dumb, why a prismarine star? That makes no sense, and boomerangs? Minecraft is a medieval game

How fast does the star go? When you say only one can be thrown at a time, will it not let you switch item slots or simply won't let you shoot another one until the first comes back? How long will in fly in the air? In my opinion it should have less durability than a diamond sword, so it is more like a weapon you only want to use when needed. It should bounce off the top and bottom of blocks while simply coming back when it hits the side of a block. I feel this could be a great second ranged weapon, but should be balanced so players will still use the bow once they can get Prismarine Stars. PARTIAL SUPPORT please add more details like the ones SparkPixel and I asked for!
Many things in the game are already surrealistic, like prismarine, glowstone, nether wart, potions, blazes, and even the game's most famous mascot, the creeper!
In MC, Nether stars are used to create one block, the beacon..--but that's it. It's a valuable item, but it needs more uses. The nether star has many opportunities to open the door for game advancement.
No, it doesn't "need" more uses. You just want it to have more.
For something that requires both rare items: prismarine and a nether star, this thing having the durability of an iron sword is excruciatingly underpowered.
and if you could make nether star tools ? that was very interesting i was tinking the nether star sword can be crafted whit one diamond and one nether star it damage was 8 or 9 or when crafted it have the wither effect what do you think? Or the nether star could make a new portal but i prefer the star tools.
Enchanted diamond stuff is enough, we don't need an ultra-beefy tier above that

Yeah, that guy in the avatar is me. I'm *that* strange. It happens. Sometimes people act like that. Just go with it. I can offer help with suggestions even before you post them - NOT make your suggestions - but help you with them.
I feel there is no good way to balance this, or if there is it would be very difficult.
Any stronger than diamond and it's overpowered. Any weaker and it's underpowered.
For a weapon that requires you to kill a boss stronger than the enderdragon, it is very underpowered right now.
As I stated before however, you'll have quite a hard time balancing this. You may want to revise the entire suggestion, that may be the only way to balance it.

Or, the damage can be around +9 all the time, as in no decrease based on distance. The diamond sword is +8. But it'll be balanced, because it's a ranged weapon, so it'll take some time to return.

Keep in mind that this is the Wither we're talking about here. Far stronger than the enderdragon. It would have to be far stronger for it to be worth killing the wither over, but then it would be overpowered. Hence why I said it would be difficult if possible to balance.
Still, +9 is overpowered. Imagine dealing critical hits, and enchantments, and a strength potion? Sure, that's a best case scenario, but by then, you will be far beyond the diamond sword's damage.
Anyway, Nether Star being able to give you permanent potion effects via a beacon is powerful enough, it doesn't need to also serve as an unbalanced weapon.
It would have to be far stronger for it to be worth killing the wither over, but then it would be overpowered.
The wither isn't that hard of a boss, you should have all your diamond armor and regeneration potions by the time you beat the dragon. It's an end-game item, from an end-game boss. The Water Monuments are tough, you need a ton of potions and armor to get--sponge and prismarine? Well the Prismarine Star seems like a better deal, and it's killing 2 birds with one stone. Now there's a reason to go through all the trouble with the water monument. But that's just for obtaining it.
Why does it have to be stronger for killing the wither over? I just stated that the wither isn't a really big deal. But let's say it did have to be better for killing the wither over- and this is just an idea. What if there was a whole new tier of armor and weapons added to the game, then everyone would have that tier and it wouldn't be overpowered, diamond would just be underpowered. But I don't like that idea right now so let's stick with what I have
I love this idea so much I want it added in 1.9. If only... I think it's pretty well balanced currently, gives a use for prismarine, and a use for nether stars that doesn't require a stack of treasure blocks to work properly. Also as a side perk, since it has prismarine and bows no longer work underwater, maybe it could work well, but slower than on land, in water?
*Sees 9 damage* Umm... well, now we have the problem of people not using swords. And sharpness as well? This will be quite tricky to balance for you. This weapon nearly completely removes swords of their uses. I feel for this to be truly balanced in the end, changes have to be made to the bow as well. I still like this idea, but it may be quite hopeless. megabyte may be right with having to completely revise this suggestion. Still, I wish you the best of luck
Therefore the suggestion is written with my opinion.
Your own opinions are just that. Opinions. They won't "persuade" anyone of anything. The only thing that will persuade us is how good the suggestion is written and if it's good, and not how you feel about your own ideas. We already know you like your suggestion, otherwise you wouldn't post it. Just because you find your own idea "exciting", doesn't automatically mean we will too. If anything, reading that stuff will only make us think "Exciting, huh? We'll see about that."
You also didn't even bother to respond about the "underpowered" thing I mentioned.

Haha, that's a pretty bad mindset. You don't use your opinions to persuade people. Don't praise your own suggestion, because when someone shoots it down, it'll be that much more embarrassing.
This weapon is far stronger than a diamond sword, having an attack of 9 hearts and a durability as much of a diamond sword. Just imagine having this weapon with Sharpness V and a Strength Potion? You'd practically be a destructive weapon. And I'm starting to think this is the case of using an extremely expensive item to craft a powerful weapon, which is usually not considered a way to balance out something, since the moment you have it, you pretty much have it's powerful ability.
Nether stars used to make Beacons are already a good enough to have. Beacons allow you to have any enchantment you want, whilst sacrificing an material, and you can keep that effect for as long as you'd like. I don't see why implement a stronger sword for the sake of giving a Nether Star more purpose to it when it already has enough.
