A way to stop mobs spawning other than spamming torches and slabs?
Beacons! I think it would suit the 'mystical power' of the beacon if it
also prevented spawns, or at least had an option to do so in the menu.
It could be used to create moody builds (using light levels to make
builds look better, something I'm a big fan of) in vanilla survival,
builds would look a lot better not covered in slabs or ugly torches. Of
course the area of effect would be the same as it is for the normal
beacon effects(50 blocks, right?). I think it would suit as an end-game
installment (you need a nether star for the beacon) seeing as one block +
base blocks are all you need to protect a large area from monster
spawns. I think it would be better if monster spawners ignored this
effect and worked normally. A downside would be, if theres no option to
turn it off, that beacons couldn't be used near mob farms or battle
arenas which use normal spawning to work.
Hope this idea sounds good to everyone! - Blaze55
I think it should be an separate effect, that can't be used at the same time as some other effect on the same beacon.
This was suggested before, people complained about it being OP, even though it is basically just an longer range ridiculosly expensive torch.
Suggestions like this make me wonder why Mojang didn't think of this in the first place.

Dear Justin Bieber haters,
I owe my life to Justin.
On March 9th, 2013, I was in a coma for 6 months after a terrible car crash.
One day my nurse turned the radio to Justin’s song.
So I got up, and turned the radio off
"When life gives you lemons, don't make lemonade! Demand to see life's manager! Make life rue the day it thought it could give Cave Johnson lemons! Do you know who I am? I'm the man whose gonna burn your house down - with the lemons! I'm gonna get my engineers to invent a combustible lemon that'll burn your house down!"
