All you medieval supporters REALLY need to read my signature. There are three inventions in the game that come directly from the 1870's to the 1880's. This isn't 100% medieval. To say that, you'd have to ignore those three items, and the looks of most of the tools and items in the game. Railways in Medieval Times? ********. I think this game is closer to being directly before the Industrial Evolution, at the end of the Late Colonial Period ( ~1885)
no.... the first powered railroads IN AMERICA were started around 1830-1840, and there were many more in Europe before then. The first minecarts started around the 1500's and were either powered by gravity, pulleys, or horses/mules.
To be honest, I think Notch tries to stay with things that don't involve electronics (disregard redstone) as all the creations are mechanical.
As for a new vehicle, I would like improved minecarts. (funicular, and faster carts)
You'd still have to ignore the TNT and the Record Player. My point still stands. The TNT block still looks too technical to be medeival. If it was a spice jar filled with powder, with a fuse sticking out, then I might buy it as medeival. Medeival folk didn't have coal powered machinery also. Sorry, you lose.

How do I lose? I never suggested that notch is aiming towards a medieval feel, or any kind of era in general. I suggested that he takes a more mechanical outlook at more advanced technologies.
If you weren't trying to get back at me for proving some of your evidence wrong, you would've realized that I was hinting towards your suggested time frame. (early industrial revolution)
Ptylersworld doesn't know what he's talking about. Gunpowder and sulfur was used first around mid 1st century AD. And coal has been used for fuel since the 4th century AD.
The most prominent reason of all is that notch wants to stay medieval. If you want ATV's and tanks you'd better just go back to call of duty.

Muncher is right, listen to him, he can cure the blind and make paraplegics walk.
Notch doesnt want to pass the industrial revolution of minecraft (excuse me for history lesson) but an Atv nononononono. Lol how about horses and some kind of bike or trains.
This game is to survive and build a civilization in multiplayer most recomended by me.
Horses are already added in mods, but it would be cool to have them naturally spawn in game. I would think a big bird you could fly on would be cool, but if he throws you off, you hope theres water below you.

"most of the tools and items"
I know, the pickaxes and arrows are SO 1950's.
And just because it has a cartoony TNT and minecart tracks does not mean it's set in a specific time period.
They had some form of mine carts back in the days...
No, really, it just wouldn't look good with minecraft, the point is survival, not civilization. And what do you have against horses?
Besides, we can ride pigs. Maybe control them eventually.
Kinda seconded
We have boats... perhaps there can be a sail for speed? I love the idea of horses but what ahout wheel blocks so you can make chariots to attach your horse to with rope or something? Perhaps a bit too much like "little big planet" but I don't see it as a bad idea.
I vote no to ATV's and other wheeled vehicles. The exception is minecarts since the game is called Minecraft after. Anything else just seems out of place in a cubic landscape to me.
p.s. minecarts can hardly be considered "wheeled" at all. They're more like boxes that glide on rails...

yeah I kinda forgot about the whole cube thing for a second. :/

Right. And jukeboxes were totally in vogue in the 15th century. *Rolls eyes* That being said, I don't think that land vehicles are quite what minecraft needs (other than minecarts).
Wheeled chariot type vehicles would be pretty cool. You could attach a pig to it or somthing. How about a zombie chariot. You could just go on a nightime ride with your bow and arrow on your chariot shooting everything that moves.

and with your ingenious airplanes and magical scooters we can stop these horrors.
