*Pets are stationary.

*Pets are only cows, pigs, and chickens.
Hopefully, no more stupid topics on "Pets" which can attack and gather diamond for you.

What you have posted is pretty stupid. Having pets as described DOES enhance gameplay. they can be used for FAR more than your narrow view sees. Last I saw, these pets don't gather **** for you so you can forget about your diamonds and while they do occasionally drop stuff it's pretty rare.
A fun use would be some trap like this:
Tame a few spiders or creepers. Dig out a few appropriate sized holes in the wall. Put your spiders/creepers in, seal them in with sand or gravel that rests on a meltable block, connect that block to a pressure plate. Now when that plate is triggered, the gates open and your spiders/creepers attack!

So, you think minecraft is medieval huh? TNT(1863)/Dynamite(7 May 1867) and steel railways(1857) in medieval times? I call BS, sure there's armor and swords, but it's NOT medieval. Either give me a source or cram it!
*You can pickup your pets.
*Pets are stationary.

Gathering diamond? When did I say that? 0_o
You say that it is overpowering, and then you state that pets can be picked up. I don't see how picking them up would work if slaughtering them does too. If hitting them, which is basically the only option besides right-click (and I assume right-click would be used for taming) would gather them, then how would we kill them?
If you're going to call an idea stupid, then at least have a foundation. Don't be a hypocrite and go back on your own arguments.
I put a lot of time into this idea. If you oppose it, please, explain in a way that makes sense, and I won't repsond in a hostile way. Thanks.
Thank you to all who have given *actual* feedback. :smile.gif:
Would the spiders in the "spider jockey" partnership wear collars?
Would pets be transferable between players in SMP?
Spider Jockeys could not be domesticated, as they have skeletons, which I have stated wouldn't be tamed by this method.
To transfer a pet, you would meet with someone, remove the pet's collar, allow one day for it to go wild, and have them tame the pet. However, this may or may not have to be done. If it's a pet like a pig, does it really matter whose pet it is, who tames it? Because pigs do not have that sense of "loyalty," they do not attack others, they don't really care who gets near them, so one person's pet pig is anyone else's. Now, if you tamed a spider, or an aggressive slime, then that would be a different story. The mob knows to recognize its owner and only its owner, and to attack anyone else. An aggressive pet would need to be let go wild and be tamed by another player in order to "transfer" it.
If that makes any sense.

I have only three points:
One - Maybe leashes should just be right clicked to equip to a mob, like saddles?
Two - The ability to control tamed pigs when using a saddle.
Three - No "1/10 chance of bursting into flames". I don't want to craft my gold plated diamond, lighted and tagged collar to burst into flames, killing my intended pet in the process as well.
Otherwise a well organized interesting thread.
1.) Yeah, that is how leashes work. There are two right clicks involved with locked leashes - first click mob, next click the place you lock it to. Hand leashes only require the initial click.
2.) Hmm, didn't think about that. Yes, yes, that is mandatory.
3.) That is true, I may modify that part. However, a lit collar should be a bit harder to acquire - maybe lightstone dust instead of a torch? The reason I made it burst into flames in the first place is because one, torches are easy to get and you could just make a parade of movable light with no risk, and two, if you were to actually put a collar with a torch on an animal, just imagine, extreme fire hazard and danger to the animal's health. But since minecraft isn't that realistic... I may change that part.
+100000000000000000 points of support.
And the lit collar thing....I'm thinking lightstone or lightstone dust. The stationary collars are epic,I'd LOVE to have 20 spiders guarding my house...The door, the walls, the roof, the floor(underground room FTW!)....Now THAT would be AWESOME.

This seems interesting. I am glad you fully explained the recipes and I think it would make a nice update. So...Could you tie a spider to a post and then delete several blocks under it and fill it with lava? Then you would have a spider hanging over lava. I know, cruel, but it's fate could be an example to aggresive spiders.

I don't know about that lava thing.......................
Hmm, about the lava thing, idk. It'd be really hard to dig a hole under a spider without it either moving away or just totally missing the block and hitting the spider, and... you know. Also trying to lead it into a hole wouldn't work - leashes stop mobs from wandering off edges. And the game (THE GAME!) currently lacks the physics engine to make a spider or other mob dangle. It could be done, and I know Notch could do it, but implementing it just for that reason would be silly. How about this - if you dig a hole under a mob on a leash, and it is in the situation where it would fall, the leash snaps, the collar stays connected, and the mob drops like a rock.
I didn't do saddles and riding on purpose, btw. I didn't want to make it too overly complicated, and riding ideas are usually the worst received, but I suppose I can update it at some point.
Thanks again for the feedback and support! If you want to show further support and spread the idea, please grab a sig! :happy.gif:
nice idea, but i have an idea, so you could get skeletons and zombies on your side, potions that turn you into a zombie or a skeleton, if you wanted to turn into a skeleton you would have to get some bones from skeletons and use something like bucket of lava mixed with a slime ball. it would allow you to turn into a skeleton whenever you wanted, but also it would cost you some diamonds and glass to put it in, and the risk is if your in a bright place when undead you will start burning to death. also this would let you chat with any mob, if your in the nether you will be stuck in that form once you turn undead, also this allows you to make army's but if they see you transform back they will not trust you ever again. also this does not last forever once a few days go by it runs out and you lose being able to transform. (a meter shows how long you have left it only goes down when your in skeleton form, but wont go down when in said form while in the nether. but will decrease in the nether when in human form.) and if notch adds humans you would be attacked by humans when they have weapons. so its risky on both sides, also if you stay in undead form you will not turn back into a human until you make another potion, the best thing is in undead form you move faster and take less damage, but this means less stuff fits in your inventory.
One of the best pet suggestions I've read, although it could do with some improvements.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Pigs - When a tamed pig is slaughtered, it returns at least one pork, always. Mean, but an incentive to domesticate, and good for farmers.
Cows - When a tamed cow is slaughtered, it returns at least one leather, always. Again, mean, but useful for farmers.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
No. The point of having a pet is not to kill it.
WARNING-THESE ISEAS ARE LOOOOOOONG!
I have better ideas for what some tamed mobs do.
All Mobs - All domesticated mobs will heal half-hearts at 1/8 the rate the player does while on Peaceful difficulty.
Pigs - Domesticated pigs can be controlled while saddled. Right clicking should remove both the saddle and collar.
Cows - A tamed cow will ALWAYS give milk when you click any part of its body holding a bucket.
Squid - Domestic Squids will drop 0-2 ink sacs at the rate of a chicken laying eggs.
Creepers - Still applying the Dropping Sulfur while wandering rule and the drops sulfur and the collar when it is killed,
you should NOT get the collar back when it explodes. Instead, a tamed creeper drops 3-6 sulfur and 0-1 TNT upon explosion, at the cost of losing your gold-plated diamond collar.
Slimes-When split in half by at attack, it will drop its collar.
Spiders - Spiders become ride-able with saddles-Time to kick that dumb skeleton off its back! Note: You can control spiders you are riding. Spiders will also squeeze into the minecart (their legs will curl up and their head will poke out) so they can ride with you on your rollercoaster.
I have a decent way to tame the undead.
Skeletons - First, give it a bone to repair the boo-boo it got from getting that green mucic disc from the creeper (No, you don't have to get a music disc, it's a joke). Then, make a bone-infused collar, where =any collar and ]" title="-<->" /> =Bone meal.
Then place it on the skeleton and it is 'tamed'
It will shoot at any other untamed mob apart from other skeletons and its undead cousin, the Zombie. It will also ride tamed spiders and will not burn up in the sunlight. Tamed skeletons will also drop 1 bone meal at a chicken's egg laying rate.
Teh Zombiez
First, give it some BRAAAAIIIINNNNZZZZ! but there are no brainz in Minecraft, so just give it some meat, which will have a 1/4 chance of taming it. It will pause for a second chomping at Miss Pig. (lol)
Then just give it a collar. It will try to mess with any other untamed mob apart from other zombies and its undead cousin, the Skeleton. Tamed zombies will not burn in sunlight.
Zombie Pigmen
Same method as Zombies, except with cooked meat. Tamed zombie pigmen will not burn up in sunlight (In the case they decide to visit the overworld) and they will follow you through nether portals.
Ghasts
I don't really know how to tame ghasts, mainly due to the fact they are normally floating out of the player's reach. Probably a hot air balloon to get there and a giant collar that would also fit Huge Slimes (How would you get them out of the cave anyway!?) to stop them despawning. I don't know what would tame them! And yeah, they squeeze through the nether portal to give you a visit, and they WILL NOT mindlessly fly to layer 128. Tamed ghasts could be ridable, perhaps with a giant saddle that could seat 4 mobs and a storage chest.
