i know my first post didn't exactly please a lot of you. so i am making the updated version of my idea to clear up what might not have been answered.
WHAT I AM TIRED OF IN VANILLA MINECRAFT:
how there is some physics but it doesn't exactly make sense, like sand and gravel flows down, but why not it scater everywhere like in real life? my idea only suggestions sand, but gravel could work with the same idea! the possibilities are endless!
WHAT I AM SUGGESTING:
so what i am suggesting: that sand flows like it does in real life, so basically it can be picked up in a bucket, and has the same physics as lava or water. and suffocation would be easier to avoid because it isn't a solid block, it flows so you can"swim" in it. but really "sand" is the new block, and packed/hardened sand will take its place with the same physics as vanilla minecraft. also there will be wet sand, that happens when water is poured on top of regular sand. this has no use except you can walk across it as long as it is wet. this is perfect for exploring underwater. this sand will have a darker look. it can be picked up with a shovel or bucket. this sand does not effect the water around it.
QUESTIONS YOU MIGHT HAVE:
but how do i get across a desert if you sink into the sand?
the top layer of the desert will be made of a new block called hardened or packed sand (i haven't decided), so the first 2 blocks while be made up of packed sand, but everywhere else it is still normal sand.
how do i pick up sand?
you can just shovel it up and it appears as a block in your inventory, or you can pick it up with a bucket, and it will be placed the same way. but sand will only beable to be picked up with a shovel or a bucket, not your fist. while hardened sand can be picked up with all three(fists, bucket, shovel)!
what about building?
building is simple, just use sandstone or hardened sand. keep in mind hardened sand still falls, but it does't flow everywhere.
what about glass?
glass can be smelted out of hardened sand
CRAFTING RECIPES:
hardened sand: crafting 4 pieces of regular sand
sand: stone, ,andesite, diorite, sand stone, granite, cobble stone crafted with 9 pieces of anyone
sand castle: specially moulded bucket, place on the ground
sand castle bucket: bucket and mould in crafting grid
mould: 3 papers in crafting grid
I WILL ADD ANYTHING I FORGOT LATER! PLEASE FILL OUT THE POLL!
I'm confused, you said that the new sand will have the physics of lava or water, but that would cause major problems:
So the top two layers of a desert will consist of hardened sand, as you mentioned, the new sand will have the physics of water or lava, imagine that I dig a block of hardened sand, the hardened sand below it would be updated and it would fall through the new sand as it isn't a solid block, updating the adjacent blocks and destroying the whole desert, creating lots of lag in the process.
If I placed sand in the top of a hill, it would flow down just like if it was water or lava, that's really odd in my opinion.
People would sink in sand beaches, as they are made of sand.

Btw, in a desert hardened sand is found underground, not on top.
