So, with slimes coming back sometime soon, it'll be pretty cool to see the things.
But the thing is their drop is of no use at the moment, so...
I thought, like with many items, why not just be able to combine their drops into a block?
Hence the Jelly Block.
Which would essentially be a cube of green slime, but without the face inside.
The jelly block would break in an instant when punched, and be transparent of course.
Also, landing on the block would cause the player (Or a mob) to bounce, and would prevent falling damage like water.
This could have practical uses besides replacing water though, such as using it to prevent spiders from climbing walls. (They would bounce away). if possible, they could even bounce minecarts, as if they were a jump ramp of sorts.
For the people who want it for it's decorative properties, it could even be dyed into different colors of jelly.
I'm probably going to get flamed so hard for this.

I doubt Black Jesus riding a cloud to Earth, slapping the nerdrage in the face, would stop the nerdrage. Ever.
If you're about to get flamed, it isn't gonna be by me. I don't see anything wrong with this, its a just fun block that also serves a variety of purposes. People have been asking for a spider-resistant block of some sort for a while now.

If facebook, Myspage, and Twitter were all destroyed, 90% of teens would go insane. If you're one of the 10% that would be laughing at them, copy this into your signature and hope it happens.

I suppose so, but I know that the people here have a tendency to flame. :V
Although it's spider resistant, it doesn't really go well with a wall of stone. But nevertheless would serve that purpose well. I can't really think of many uses for a bouncy block at this point in time besides having fun making things bounce around, but Slime Balls may as well have a use when Slimes finally return.

This is a great idea. At the very least, if we can combine the other ores and most of the other things we can pick up, why not make a useful block out of a few of them?
Now in more seriousness. I would like to say, yes there have been many suggestions, and I think Notch knows we want a cool speed related/bouncy item from slimeballs.
On your idea, I would rather have the block be semi-permeable. Let only humans through at walking speed, no mobs at all or projectiles. When a player is falling towards it, if it is a faster speed than walking, it could deflect the player(aka trampoline)

So you say 1.4 is fail because you don't know how to update your server? WTF
Thats like saying all cars fail because you don't know how to put gas in them.
Especially as an anti-spider and anti-fall-damage measure, this sounds like a great idea. The ability to dye the blocks would make it easier to blend them in with a stone wall, too. Absolutely brilliant.

Well thanks for the positive feedback on this idea!
It's a shame Notch doesn't seem to read these boards. But oh well.
I can dream. = <=

To be honest, this seems to pretty much do what a door does. Even though the block being semi-permeable would make sense seeing as it's slime, doors are already mob-proof and projectile-proof. Just with an additional bouncing ability if it were made of slime. Perhaps slime could also be made into a "Slime screen" which would be like your idea, and work as a decorative door too.

This is a terrible idea you are a terrible person flame!
xD
im for it. I want a big moonbounce filled with cows and pigs xD. I think its funny that you can break it with one punch, but falling on it just results in you bouncing.

just one question
How bouncy are we talkin..?
It would probably depend on how far you've fallen before you hit it, but maybe with a limit. (So you couldn't jump on it, and then go higher every time until you bonked your head on the top of the sky)
Depends on how we want to use it.
I know that most people will want a Jelly Block for fun, instead of for practical things.
So it would could be REALLY bouncy, instead of a simple "Boing".

I love it :tongue.gif: sounds like a nice fun block that could replace staircases or ladders in my home. I have an idea on bouncing height with it: 3-4 blocks high if you just jump on it, but if you fall on it from a height (say 20 blocks above it) then you will be bounced up half that height (10 blocks high) until you reach the regular bounce height.
I agree with this but I think that maybe it should be 3/4 height after bouncing to keep it kind of worth it to make a sky-high jump platform to dive into the slime.
But the thing is their drop is of no use at the moment, so...
