We all know about the two great, and awesome working pistons in the minecraft universe.
The Regular:
And OF course, the Sticky Piston:
But I was thinking, "What If we brought the unimplemented 'SPIKE BLOCK' into the game?"
After days of thinking, I was able to come up with not a block, but a piston!
I Present you, the Spiked Piston!
Now before I explain what it does that's different, let's go over on how to craft this sucker!
= Iron Ingot
= Regular Piston
This is shapeless, just to point out!
======================
Now let's go over what it does:
1)The spiked piston will damage entities about the same as a cactus, but when it extends it does 3.5 hearts of damage.
2)It can push ONE (1) block of obsidian that is within the row, any more then that and it wont extend
3)It can push slimeblocks without the sticky effect that slimblocks have, allowing one to push slimeblocks on a solid floor
4)It will pull TWO(2) blocks infront of it back, but it still follows basic piston machanics.
5)It can pull multiple spiked piston infront of it back, bypassing the rule #4 limit of two blocks
6)It tries to push a block block entity, or 2 or more blocks of obsidian, the body extends out backward, acting like a regular piston.
6)The spike is non-solid, and you can still place blocks there to nullify the damage effect.
7)Able to push only 6 blocks
=======================
other than the one above, it follows all piston rules, no tile entities ,etc.
=======================
=======================
Benifits of the spiked piston:
1)SUPER compact farms.
2)Brings an old idea into the game
3)Makes auto building portal a possiblity
4)Moving slimblocks can be easier.
5)Simple recipe if you can't find slimes, but at a cost of range
=======================
The idea is interesting, though I dislike the triangle spike in the model. It needs to be blockier imo. But many of the uses past doing more damage when pushed don't make any sense.

I like the idea, but you MAY have it a mite overpowered. I have a couple of suggestions that may be of use:
Spike Pistons deal 3.5 hearts ONLY during the period that it is being extended (similar to how a piston moves mobs). Otherwise, no/minimal damage is dealt.
Its ability to move obsidian would be a great inconvenience to safes and "locked rooms". In which case, if this idea IS held, it should also require three Diamonds for extra balance.
Why would it nullify slime blocks, and why would we want to? After all, the slime block is an instant-break block: it's as fast as breaking leaves with shears. The whole purpose for a slime block is FOR its sticky quality and for its bounciness.
I hope I haven't offended you in any way, but other than these, it's rather a good suggestion. Keep it up!

Well Awesome!
But if this become implimented we will not need any diamond pickaxe anymore
Also the spike should be made with iron not wood

The only thing you NEED a diamond pickax for is mining obsidian.
Get buckets of lava and water and you can put obsidian anywhere.
Oh Yeah! I'd forgot

I really don't like all of its special properties, like being able to push obsidian and the others. You can already make plenty of traps that are very easy to hide, so I don't see the "trap potential" in this. You can create an effective trap cheaply that does more damage than a cactus.
While I can understand why the idea might sound fun, I don't think it supports the creative sandbox heart of Minecraft. It just seems like it would simplify traps too much, it's the very reason that cacti can't be placed next to each other. The point of traps as they exist now is that they push the creative limit of the crafter, whereas with a spiked piston means a simple hole with a spiked piston completely unpowered would be enough to kill some players and all mobs. Perhaps if there was a limit to the amount of armor penetration it could do? For example 0 damage to armored mobs, or players, and anyone with Thorns enchant could actually break the block. By limiting it's potential for damage against other players the creative aspect of redstone powered pistons would still be necessary to make a true pvp trap, making the piston essentially a terrific farming tool. I just don't want to see this game downslide into simplicity.

Interesting, interesting.
Support, but I have an idea:
The spikes are crafted separate, and can be placed anywhere or be used to make this.

You don't need a diamond pick-ax now.
The only thing you NEED a diamond pickax for is mining obsidian.
Get buckets of lava and water and you can put obsidian anywhere.
Time-travel mod request! (It's long over-due and would be fantastic!)
Oh Yeah! I'd forgot
1: the spike should b it's own block
2:it should not move obsidian
other than that
