This is my first suggestion ever (i think) and the idea it's not so big... The idea it's just to add Sound mufflers to minecraft.
The crafting it's easy: Any wool placed like a chest and a note block on the center
The block can silence any mob or block that emits sound at a distance of up to 8 blocks.
It can be very useful for the item elevators that uses droppers, for example
About the Redstone, the block shoud interact with redstone signals, enabling and disabling the block.
What is your opinion about it?
Thanks everyone that support my idea! And for the people that don't support, thanks anyway

From AJPirate:
Good idea, actually. I can imagine it being used in maps. My only question is what will it look like? Actualy, i don't have any idea of how will the block look like, but i'm still thinking

It's pretty interesting. I like it. But, one thing I would change. Don't do all the different colored wool. Just make it be able to use any type of wool.
But other than that, support. Not needed, but still a cool block.
From GlitchReaper:
Maybe this could have an interface to select which sounds in the area you silence? That would be cool!
sorry for my bad english... i hope you understanded...
OT: Full support. My massive chicken army is plain white noise now.
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
My avatar is a spectral archmage exiled from his native realm for practicing light magic, as most Undead use blood magic to gain immortality and fear the light. Due to this he hates his own kind and, save for the Rebellion of Light, generally kills the Undead on sight. Skilled in water and light magic, syringe guns and frying pans. Peaceful unless threatened. My dolphin is also spectral and his name is Bob

Could you ever see mojang even CONSIDERING this! As a mod, alright. In vanilla Minecraft though, no. Never.
You haven't been here very long, have you? First of all, this idea actually sort of fits. Second, there have been many, many, many other ideas that aren't even close to fitting this well. Not saying that this is a perfect fit, but there's been worse. Way worse.
Already Exists in Extra Utilities (With the exact same recipie) with a larger area of effect and a simple click on/off functionality s opposed to redstone.

Saying it exists in mods/plugins is an invalid argument. Suggestions are for vanilla Minecraft, and even if it's in a mod, we would still like it in vanilla.
As for the OP, I think I support, but i'm confused, would putting one down mute all nearby sounds completely? Or would you have to surround yourself in them to get the full effect?

Actually, I have been browsing the forums for a LONG time. I only recently got an account.
Anyway, I only stated my opinion in the earlier post.

It's not totally invalid. I mean, if the exact thing is in a mod, that should be discussed. But it is against the rules to not support something for the sole reason of it being in a mod.

If so, I'd prefer the sound-blocker to work independently to block all sounds, with the option to attach a redstone current to block specific sounds
One thing I'm thinking of is...how will this work with doors? If you use it like you would proper insulation, it'll leave a gap where the door is (or a bigger gap if you cover the insulation with wood for aesthetic quality)

Partial support.
Let's do some math.
1/3 = 0.333...
1/3 * 3 = 1
0.333... * 3 = 0.999...
1 = 0.999...
1 - 0.999... = 0.999... - 0.999...
0.0...1 = 0
0.0...1 * 10... = 0 * 10...
1 = 0
If regular is Vanilla then what flavor is your Minecraft?
