Adding lazer guns is rocketing over the shark into space, commandeering a rocket, and flying it back into the shark in a kamikaze death flight.
Rubies are oversuggested, and needing a diamond pick to mine the ruby ore is just stupid, since you can mine Diamonds (the hardest mineral in existence) with an iron pick.
Most importantly, who's going to go on a ruby crusade into the nether, fighting zombie pigmen for who knows how long to acquire the necessary rubies, just to obtain this nearly-worthless gun that does 1/10 the damage of an arrow? A bow would trump this thing in a fight, making it about as efficient as splash potions of harming or a golden sword.

Quote from BadprenupjumpAgreed with people saying Minecraft has no real life setting. The theme of Minecraft is "fun and balanced". That is it. No support to the idea, it doesn't fit either of those parts of the theme. It isn't balanced because by the OP's description it basically does 0 damage. It isn't fun because if firing it you can't kill anything and if getting shot you are constantly getting the hit knockback without ever getting hurt, which would be annoying. Also...
"Starwars has laser guns and its still fantasy oriented pretty well."
There are so many things wrong with this that even as a light SW fan who only knows the movies and games it makes me upset to read it. Star Wars* is not fantasy and it does not have laser guns. It is science fiction and has weapons that shoot plasma or high energy particles. Sorry but as a fan it hurt.
Well I'm not a starwars fan. and when I was thinking of an example, starwars came to mind because they have lasers guns...or plasma jiggys you were talking about. fantasy and science fiction still share some similarities.
I think he was having a go at the suggestion like saying this isn't for vanilla like this is for a mod (i think)
Anyway why would you craft this when it's only 1/10th power of an arrow. I would rather use a wooden sword than this. And also wouldn't you think you need some type of ammo? Because the way you are stating is that you have unlimited ammo...

I actually said 100 shots per durablily, then you can fix it back to 100 with just 1 ruby on an anvil.
So your saying that there is limited rubies in the nether?
No, although technically there are (in the same way there are limited diamonds in the overworld).
What he's saying is, when you craft a laser gun, it doesn't consume ammo; however, it DOES have a limit of 100 shots before it breaks, so you'll only get 100 shots with it. HOWEVER, unlike other tools, it doesn't outright break, it simply can't fire any more. You can then repair it with a ruby to restore its durability.

Did something happen to you in your childhood to give you this unreasonable fear of rutabaga?
Here are my 2 cents on the matter. I think the ideas you thought about it makes it too balanced - only 1/10 of an arrow? While only shooting every half second? I wouldn't get it, even if it was automatic. Ruby ore being even rarer than emerald ore is even worse.
The concept of it (to me) doesn't fit in with vanilla minecraft either - Minecraft is a game set in a time with very little electricity, and any tools can only be basic.
So in summary: the weapon is so balanced its not worth getting.

Developer for Minecraft: Combat Evolved, a Halo mod. Complete with 3D weapons and is multiplayer-capatible!
That's the third Ruby Topic I've read today... Sigh, It's very weak, unfitting, and just because Star Wars has it, it doesn't means Minecraft must have it

support here, but throw your over-nerfing out the window, really it's no worth getting if it's not stronger than the bow, or if the ore is rarer than emerald or diamond
and 'no-laser-guys'.. i see creepers flashing behind you <w<

-.- I know that!
What I'M saying is that it NEVER breaks and all you need is 1ruby just to refill 100ammo.

It's simply not for minecraft, and i'm not talking about the laser, i'm talking about the gun, if it was some kind of artifact, I'd surely show more support (Maybe many would), it's a fantasy game, not a science fiction, even if they have smilarities they're still different
While I´d like to see more ranged weapons, they should be actually balanced (This one deals so little damage that it´s only purpose would be to humilliate nearly-dead players in PvP), and shouldn´t (Or rather, mustn´t) add a new item that is only used to craft said weapon, specially as there is an item that could fulfill the same purpose (In this case, Prismarine Crystals), and shouldn´t be unfitting (A laser weapon that is based on Prismarine, or a simple, generically named gun that is a sidegrade to the bow, but that has a proper cost, such as it acting like a shotgun of sorts, is fitting. One taken nearly straight out of a sci-fi work, or a gun that would make WH40K orks blush due to it´s fire rate isn´t).
This is actually a good idea and makes sense. It justifies the presence of the laser firing beasts as well. It also means you'd have renewable ammunition... I think.
Also the first cutting laser was made in 1965. It was hefty, but it wasn't overwhelmingly so. It just needed a ton of power to operate. So no, lasers are more retro than you could imagine.
Though, the first laser WAS fired through a silver lined ruby tube.

pff.. get your dark age out of my minecraft.
does that sound silly? of course it is, because minecraft is a game where everyone chooses how to play it

If we're adding laser guns, lets also add spaceships, interstellar travel and applied energistics... It would not be Minecraft anymore, it would lose the touch

yet it still is Minecraft a game where you can add whatever you wish
This has to be one of the worst ruby suggestions I have ever seen.
The laser gun does one damage (bow can do ten). That's 20 shots to kill something and it has only 100 uses. That's five kills. It may hit almost instantly, but that doesn't matter. This weapon would not be fun to use; against mobs it's just five kills and in pvp it's just a nuisance. What's this thing's fire rate anyway? You left that out. Can I spam the heck out of it, or can it only fire once every ten seconds?

Well you say its one of the worst ruby suggestions but you didn't even read the whole thing. An in my opinion, I've seen worse ruby suggestions. I clearly said in my thread that you can shoot every .5 seconds.
I am so sick of people saying ''If we're gonna add this why not add this and this and this also''.
Ever considered that they could add laser guns without adding obviously ridiculous things like spaceships?
Actually, it's a logical fallacy for others to say that. Slippery slope. (If we ban pizza in schools, then they'll want to ban hamburgers, then junk food, then the children won't be allowed to eat)
I know that. But still, saying Minecraft is based on "17th century stuff" is not accurate. The setting of Minecraft does not correlate to any point in actual human history. Rather it's meant to be a fantasy realm, similar to the games that inspired it. With its content being whatever Mojang feels would fit.
I doubt they'd ever want to implement things like lasers, but still, the point is that it's their world to do with what they will.
am sorry but this just is not minecraft i mean lasers? but then why not add light sabers (or what every that star wars stuff is called) but no support i think this would be a good mod but not a feature for the vanilla game

just cause science fails to explain something does not mean its real (afterlife, big foot, ghosts etc..) does not mean its fake try to stay opened mined instead of closed
