I don't know why this could be thought of as a bad idea. I found this topic because I thought the same thing. Sandstone stairs and halfblocks is a great idea. No extra programming would need to be done, it's already all there, it just needs a new skin.
I've wanted to make an awesome pyramid filled with cool traps. But then, how do I go up to the second floor? Random stone steps in a sandstone pyramid? No thanks!
You get a :Diamond:.
I do not like this idea, seem's like a waste of coding/space for the database for this. But overall, I don't think this should be added.

Then why add sand stone when we already have smooth stone, cobble stone, dirt, logs, and planks?
Why do we have both stone and wood stairs?
Sandstone was added to give players spawning in a desert biome a chance of building a starter house
I've never been in a desert biome that was so large that I couldn't find wood or dirt. That is poor reasoning for why sandstone was introduced.
I support this idea, in fact I was going to suggest it before I checked for an already made topic. Those Aztec pyramids look silly with our regular half-steps or stairs. If they are adding wood half steps why can't they throw in one other type at least?
Support, as a player who built a large desert city and was disappointed to find the look incomplete. Minecraft is primarily popular for the building, and more options for different styles is definitely worth it!
