Me thinkz someone should make a mod for this cause I dont think Notch will add any of these to the game. :Diamond:s for anyone who can make this a mod! :tongue.gif:
I really like these ideas, but I have an idea, and I don't know if it's been suggested but.... here I go anyways.
The purple nethershrooms? Yeah, they should poison the air around them. Sounds bad? I'mma go into a little more detail.
Let's start with the poisonous air. It could have the characteristics of lava: nonsolid, moves in an outward away from source block (in this case the mushroom) and damages things in it, except that it doesn't slow you down, destroys items, and it extends upward. The poisonous air would only be like 1 or 2 blocks away from the source, and would poison you, of course.(Damage could possibly be stronger in the gas than from an arrow) It'd be transparent and glow slightly brighter. (or dimmer, or just looks foggier) In order to get rid of it, either destroy the shroom or replace the gas blocks with other blocks.
Now, with the source.... With the poisonous shroom as its source, it wouldn't spread very far. The shroom could be like attacked to activate the gas, triggered by redstone, or stepped on by mobs/players. (Think non-explosive and subtle TnT)
What about protection? I'm thinking maybe adding a filter made out of the green shroom and something, and then attaching that to your helmet, creating a gas mask. I don't know, just guessing...
Some reasons why...
=It adds more subtle dangers in the Nether.
=It adds more possibilities with traps...
-Maybe a pressure plate that not only opens a door, but activates shroom.
-Pit fall traps could have hidden poison shrooms at the bottom.
=It gives more of a risk for people harvesting shrooms.
=It could be used as a mob control.
-You could have a thick fence of these poisonous mushrooms, except in a little place for an entrance.
Players with common sense would walk around the mushrooms, whereas dumb NPC's would walk straight into it,
killing themselves.
-Could be placed at the bottom of a moat around your house, that way, you don't have skeletons in a moat trying
kill you.
=I'm thinking this would be easy to input, because it's just like lava, with the exception of a few things, or think Water+Air+Sand/Gravel.
Some problems with it...
=The gassing distance would be too short, and if it extends farther than the light does, it'd be kind of bull, and you wouldn't know where the gas is or isn't.
=If you make the mushrooms brighter, than you could extend the gas's distance a bit, but I like the idea of having slightly growing mushrooms.
=resetting traps with this might be a pain.

Just off the top of my head, sorry if someone came up with this, and for too lazy to search.
A like a lot of the stuff in this thread. Especially the idea of a "freezer", and "energy".
Things I don't like:
Grimwood and Kinitride tools. What's the point, honestly? Unless you can come up with an actually purpose for them, take them out.
Portals. I'm really against this idea. If there were portals like this, there would be no point in using more awesome modes of transportation, like minecart rollercoasters and the Planes mod. It would also make the nether itself less valuable as a fast-travel zone.

Minecraft Beta 1.2: "I'll grind your bones to make my bread!"
Inferno shovels should gather bricks (not brick blocks) from clay and inferno pickaxes should gather charcoal from logs, in keeping with the theme of them.
BUT I LOVE INFERNUM :biggrin.gif: other new ore suggestions suggest ores that act pretty much EXACTLY the same as the current ores.

Suggestion for the Saproyite thing
1. Use as a dye to make wool to white
2. Possible food
3. looks awesome
4. Poison?
5. Perhaps work like a vine ladder? Mebbe can later be used for Rope, alternate ladder
6.

Yes I am a ____________ Miner.
Yes I have no profile picture.
Yes that is a bad idea.
havn't read the thread, so I'll toss in a few concepts:
Dyeable glass (made from dyed sand?)
glass halfblocks
board blocks: Like tilling soil, remove a pixel from one side of a block and allow another block to be placed in the void. Mainly useful for paneling a room with a fragile material (wood) over a harder material (stone) to increase a buildings durability. Might be easier to just make them like a sign on wall block, though covering floors and ceilings would be hard, if not impossible.
Shields: another armor wear location. Press a button (middle mouse?) to raise a shield, deflecting arrows and possibly ghast fireballs. Unusuable with items other than swords.
Polearm/Spear: Longer reaching, lower damage melee weapon. Should be fairly newbie friendly and offer some buffer for laggy servers.
Catapult: Name says it all. Lobs stone, cobblestone, or tnt. config option to remove from SMP for obvious reasons. Differences in ammo: Stone hits one (or up to 4) blocks based on where it hits a barrier. Cobblestone hits a much larger area, doing much less damage (stone damge/number of cobble chunks). TNT should be obvious.
Seismic Sensor/Local Radar: Small block made of redstone, diamond, and iron. Gives a warning when mobs are near, and a general direction. Greater range than the typical noises you hear while mining.
EDIT:
Few uses for Saproyite:
When planted in sand, stabilizes the sand in a 5x5 area.
Entangles people who step too close to it. Only in higher light levels. Think Venus Fly Trap
when placed on a nonsoulsand block, will eat away at the material, moving lower and lower until it reached bedrock. Slow way to make a pit.
No, im sorry but that one sucks the only good idea is the tunnel mite
Umm, you DO realize that our thread also contains a fair amount of stuff from this thread... right?
Cause if you did then that means there's stuff of this thread that you dislike as well, and you're picking between two options you dislike.
Oooor if you didn't then you're prejudging the thread before even reading it.
I read your thread, and honestly you made these ideas look crappy from the way you set up the thread and also if i hadnt read your thread how could i have critizised content from it?

You'll need a hoe to harvest them, each having a better chance to succeed that the lower tier:
Fist: 0.0001% chance of working (For the insane people)
Wood: 5%
stone: 10%
gold: 50%
iron: 30%
Diamond: 80%
Grimwood: 100%?
Dorodium: [Insert bonus here]

I Suggest you guys should instead check out
THE NEW NETHER THREAD.
I know. It was more for the guys were were like "Why do you have so many pointless items in this suggestion?"
Caaaaause we didn't do that.

It would be amazing if this and the Aether mod would be implemented into the game.
