Environment: Nether and large surface lava locations. AI: Neutral Drop: Rare chance of obsidian. Misc: Sapient beings of magma, the Magmen dwell around sources of lava above ground and near large magma lakes in the nether. The communities in the overworld are small, only a handful of Magmen, but the Nether communities are large and could have as many as twenty residents.
The Magmen view water much as humans view lava, a dangerous and pesky material, especially on the surface. They take damage from water as humans take it from lava, but do not catch fire. Conversely, lava/magma are the life source for the Magmen, and they cultivate a rare plant called the Latern Tree, which does not grow very large. It bears a fruit called the Latern Fruit, which the Magmen eat. The plant requires molten lava to grow. Magmen will divert magma sources to create small gardens to grow these trees.
The fruit are useful as they emit a large amount of light for a very long time even after being picked. Along with some glass, to contain it, the Lantern Fruit can be crafted into a very bright lantern that lasts for a long time. Instead of a being like a torch, that gets mounted to a wall, the Lantern would use the mobile lighting technology that has been developed.
The player can interact to some degree with the Magmen colonies. If the player attempts to steal the valuable Latern Fruit, he/she will anger the Magmen and likely end up on their bad side. But if the player brings lava to irrigate the farms of Lantern Trees, the Magmen will being to like the player and reward him with gifts of ripe Lantern Fruit. Of course, flooding a Magmen colony with water will result in outrage.
I think the use for the Fruit could be changed, it was just my first idea.
Also, Magmen would occasionally tame Salamanders.
Let me know what you think.
The Lantern Fruit
Maniacman... I love this art. This is the kind of stuff we are missing here on the Nether Update Thread. If only I could get some more images like this for the Charredbone Archers and Gulpers (Sapropods).
This is what I'm thinking the Gulper (Sapropod) looks like:
No en-bulk revamp. Revamp one bit at a time. I'm sure you and your friends can probably remember most of what you discussed anyhow. Then each day focus on one bit. Make a few graphics right now to help smooth over this rough point, and then you can stop for a while. You can remake graphics later when the fervor bulks up again.
You can't let something like this stop you. There's 32 pages of support here, and if you quit I'm going to pour lava on your house, burn your forests, and mod your world so that creepers and ghasts spawn throughout your overworld constantly.
Yes... you're quite right. We can't give up now.
I think you're absolutely correct about doing a little bit a day.
This is what we're going to do: I'm going to try and recover the files using some programs some of you guys have suggested... would have never thought of that.
In the mean time, my friends are downloading some of the old graphic files we used from online storage, bound to help us. At the same time, we're going to start saving on several hard drives, computers, thumbdrives... etc. and we'll be adding a little bit to the forum each day. Tomorrow, I'll be renaming some things, fixing stupid ideas and adding more detail to already created concepts.
I think I've found a pretty good use for the Hell bulbs.
Walking on Hell bulbs will activate them. Hitting them activates them, the only way to collect them is to break the block below them.
And here comes the new use. Cannons.
[] []
[]
Iron cannon, the fuel is regular gun-powder and you can place a cannonball inside it, aim it, then you can fire a explosive cannonball in it, and shoot it at moderate ranges.
= 4 explosive cannonballs which have the same radius as a ghast explosion but more power.
Now... for the Hell Bulb
[] [] ( = dorudium
[]
This uses durodium hard bars, which can handle the more powerful blast of the hell bulb, it's fuel is a hell bulb, which launches 5 times farther then gun powder, and can fire extra powerful explosive cannonballs which are equal to tnt.
= extra powerful explosive cannonball. = Hell Bulb
Also, durodium tools should probably use soft bars for sticks.
I suppose running low on coal in the Nether would be annoying. So, how about the possibilty to make Kitrinite Torches if glowstone lanterns are unavailabe at the time?
[] [] [] []
[] [] []
Let = Kitrinite.
The flame on the torch will be bright blue, and will give off level 12-white light. So, it's not as good as level 14 torches, level 15 glowstone or to-be level 16 lanterns but it works well in a pinch.

Awesome ideas for the Magmen here. But instead of colonies, why not like 1 or 2 of them living alone in like 1 obsidian house? I mean, if the Nether is hell, and there are people living there, cities wouldn't be all that great. So, good ideas and all, but not too hot on the ideas for the whole communities. Maybe, like, 1 magmen city per 5 chunks in the Nether? And there's a couple of obsidian houses around a large Lantern Fruit garden.
You are a genious btw i had an idea if you where to put a in the moddle and sorround it with that green diomond thing it create a hipnotism tool you could use on mobs to freeze them, but it looked like a green and set them on green fire
I liked the thread better when Stuff that actually had a good reason to be in was being added. (when kitrinite and charoite were newly added) Now it's just a load of random junk to eat up our precious item IDs.

I suggest we adopt a xenophobic attitude towards this clearly deadly threat.
We need to quarantine any infected individuals to prevent this plague from gaining a foot-hold.
One of two things can happen here.
It could be changed to either a percentage chance of happening, or the idea could just be thrown straight out the window (latter is more than likely to happen).
I say this because I'm slightly sick of tier gear (one being better than the other. No rarity in the materials doesn't count) and would like if some of the handtools did something in addition to their normal effects.

Did my post get lost in the fray?
I said I would really like to help with the art. :smile.gif:
I am actually developing an idea for event-only items, so I have an idea about what the magma hoe could do. I have made images, but I am using my iPod at present, so expect image on Saturday!
When using the magma hoe on wheat, it drops FireWheat and FireWheat Seeds instead of ordinary wheat and seeds. The FireWheat seeds can be planted and grown into more FireWheat, without having to use a magma hoe (but Kitrinite hoes turn the FireWheat back to normal wheat). The FireWheat can then be crafted into FireBread, which regains 5 hearts of health, but sets you on fire. One way to stop the flames from damaging you is to eat WaterBread or WaterBerries, which the seeds temporarily come from 1% of soil that has been tilled with a golden hoe. I will explain more about these in the topic I am making sometime at the weekend.
Make something that will protect you against lava since the only liquid in the nether is lava. After all this idea would make it so you would want live in the nether not the real world
crazy idea and i wish notch would add these ideas and more but he hasent been updatin with any suggestions lately and i dont expect him to...but i wish!
Ps notch if you read this

How about "No"?
That's incredibly overpowered.
