i definitely like the idea of nether bosses, but they should be mostly puzzle, with a hard dungeon at the end. you can loot the chests, but you have to kill all the monsters to make the door out open, and the monsters stop spawning. the boss and puzzle dungeons should be hard to cheat at, and be made of coppys of nether blocks that are hard to break. and how about we use shadeglass, glowstone, and other materials to teleport to different layers of the nether and back? cold, hot, and other layers will have greatly increased chances of having some biomes, and decreased chances of having other biomes. olso, some layers could have layer-specific materials, so you have to build a portal out of that material to get the next one and so on. mobs would be biome AND layer specific, and the further down you are, the harder it is to traverse. eventualy at the bottom you end up on one of afew possible small islands above lava, each of them with with rare ore, and all of them in anger of ghasts, floating high above a sea of lava that is rich in rare and valuble ores, and when you want to portal out, you have to either build a obsidian portal or travel up all the several layers ...AGAIN! also, there could be models that are like dungeons, but they still use a random seed, so you could see a simalar lava fall with alot of one type of mob, and know that it is a puzzle room or there is a dungeon inside., however, there are so many puzzle dungeon models, you rarely see the same thing twice, even on different worlds with the same seed. this could help make your world special, and not just a number someone else could have. i would again like to suggest that centipedes be made of several mobs with a head, side, bottom, top, and tail texture that forms a cube-shaped mob which is linked like a minecart, so you can attack the middle of one and it can split into two chains (each with a head and a tail), and you have to defeat each head one by one untill it is gone, or forgives you randomly like a spider. also, should the head start jumping around like a slime when you narrow it down to one (maybe it could grow bigger too?) or should it stay still untill you defeat it? or maybe it could just keep on going untill you finaly defeat it and drop large amounts of something small but important (maybe even a requirement to kill another mob quickly, but useless for everything else). and im not shure if you heard me talk about runners, which are a red, creeper like mob with longer legs that stand still when they are about to explode, and while doing so emmit lava embers that not only catch other blocks on fire, but you and other mobs to. they spawn under lava, and swim in it as if it was water, and destroy all blocks in the explosion accept bedrock and wood based blocks such as gwirm.. er.. GRIMwood. now im not shure, but i think that only the uppermost soulplasm blocks (the ones that are touching air) should glow, and the rest, like water, slowly get darker and less transparent as you go down. and instead of your lungs loosing air, the should gain air untill they are full and start to explode OR the could loose air much more slowly than in water, but slowly loose it faster and faster the deeper you are. and there may be rare sea life in larger pools of soulplasm, like squid, slimes that cant drown, hellsharks, underwater centipede things, and big, rounded, whale-sised fish that spit a fishing line out of their mouth to try to get you into deep water where they can kill you. you can also find a frozen soulplasm block if you find it in a cold nether-biome (which you most likely did) and shadeglass commonly forms at the bottom of the lake, replacing all unfrozen netherrack. also, a special loop plays when you are inside of soulplasm, and all normal and quiet music fades away, and then into a special "deep sea of sorrow" track that sounds like common sounds and music you may hear at your local aquarium. and it enhances the feel of the milky, glowing, green-blue enviornment. some of the larger, deeper oceans may even have soulplasm puzzle dungeons, that have pockets of air, and large mazes you have to swim through to get to the main dungeon and back. and if you actualy bothered to read this (or you cheated and read the text down here first, in which case **** ***) i will reward you with this last suggestion: make a rotting mob that drops a milky gold. it is used to create a soulstone block to get into the last layer (the lava island layer i talked about before) and the only other way to get it is to mine it from the second to last layer where it is rarer than diamond, and only drops 1-0 ore blocks, which then have to be smelted, crafted into a soulstone block, which then must be built into the shape of a portal and activated. the rotting mob can only drop items if it is killed with centipede arrows, and it will take at least one whole centipede to craft enough of them, but it drops enough to make over half of a portal. this rotting mob will only spawn in a roting or unstable biome on the fourth to last layer, and is imune to sulfuric acid (rotting biomes are full of sulfur and sulfuric acid). it looks the same as a zombie giant, and it acts the same as a zombie pigman. and i concluse this section on rotting giants with some words on sulfur and sufuric acid. sulfur looks like a yellow version of lapis, but it will not form into a block, it can be smelted to produce a lump of brimstone, or crafted with water to create sulfuric acid. brimstone looks like a unit of magenta dye, and burns twice as long as coal. and sufuric acid is like lava, but it is brown-green and wont burn you, just hurt you alot. the inventory icon is a yellow-green liquid in a bucket.
Even though this only slightly goes with the nether, i have been wanting for a long time a form of it in the overworld. NOT BIOME. It would be a nether "rift" in wich a peice of the nether went into the normal world. It would be 1/8 as rare as dungeons, have portal blocks scattered here and the(not funcioning), and perhaps some of the stuff from there (possible chance of a ghast (extremely bad if generated in a cave in a cliff)). It would only have a small amount of blocks so as to not make it the thing you go for instead of the real thing. They may have a new block called "dis-reality blocks" (yes, that's not a word). The blacks would be the directly adjacent blocks to the dicomissioned portal blacks of wich are the normally spawned blocks half corrupted with nether(would have to have these generated AFTER cave). Depending on your luck any number of "infused" blocks could be created*. Each one would be twice as strong as could serve for decoration. For ores they would have twice the power (including diamond and not effecting obsidian besides appearance)as normal even when smelted. Lastly they would have in graphics an overlay** of dark purplish black.
-*sometimes non-effective portal blacks have a slightly longer flow from origen point falling onto trees and surface only blocks making them half their nether counterparts.
-**instead of new textures a bit of a vein or square chunks go over it much like biome color.
Final note-to keep down on creation possibility lag the tainted blacks would have a 1/2 chance to become the higher material (nether material) when making tools and armor, but reducing the chance by half each block/ingot.
Srry for text wall just really itching to post this idea without a seperate thread.
EDIT- Almsot forgot that i would also like dark-lamps in minecraft. They would be made either how torches are made or the furute way lanterns are. THe would spread dark starting at 7 and getting lighter. It could be made from the stuff in the "lost-soul pool" and perhaps the nether wood. It would be nice for something, mostly i want to control the day and the dark >:3

I like this idea but we don't need dragons. We already have gasts. And normal pigmen just don't seem to fit well with the nether.Zombie pigmen make more sense.

I apologize in advance if I don't post on an RP for a while; I'm still sorting things out.
I have an idea for Grimwood trees.
Maybe you can make a boat that works in lava?
I cant imagine how one would attempt to Get out of the boat though.... unless grates were to be added!
You could always drive the boat onto dirt/sand and pick it up from there.
There are a lot of ideas I love in this topic (particularly regular pigmen trading items for gold).
I probably missed A LOT of details, revisions, and other ideas by not reading every page. Meh.
What will the pigmen give you when you trade them your gold?
The only one I'm not going crazy over is the Dragon (assuming that's still in the works). I really don't want to see Dragons and the like in Minecraft.

the boat could cool nearby lava for a short while, or the player could stand on top of the boat when he gets out. however the last one would not work in multiplayer. maybe the boat could teleport the player to a landmass that is within one block, and if there are none, the player cannot get out and gets the message "you cant just take a dip in the lava!" . also, what are grates?
I think the ores should be given the names of real-life materials, or at least well known mythical ones.
Minecraft doesn't really seem like the kind of game to have it's own made up materials.
Even if they're wildly unrealistic in their portrayal; coal, iron, diamonds, obsidian, etc-
They're all real things.
I would like the concept of the nether ores better and also think they'd be more at home in Minecraft if you gave them established names.

But the Nether is made up... so the ores should be made up, too.
Those ideas look awesome, but I don't know if they fit (most of them). I really hate saying no because they had so much thought into it and are truly cool. I don't think they should be in Mine-craft because it over uses what we already have. Though a mob that emits darkness in the Nether is a complete yes. The glowing mushrooms are pretty cool and should spawn close to glow-stone and can be turned off with red-stone. Maybe adding a specific ore that produces darkness and can be crafted into a mob spawn would be in order.

I am just a guy looking for good suggestions that are original, creative, and match the theme of Mine-craft. I have some mob ideas that I need help forming which is a community project.

This wouldn't work. It was already stated that Grimmwood works as a cooling agent. A boat would harden any liquid it was put in that wasn't a spiritual one. Perhaps if one of the spirit/soul liquids were incorporated it could be used as a boat, but not in another way.

I'm about to tear my hair out if Notch doesn't even consider this.
Something this wonderful can't be over looked.
Come on Notch, half the work was already done!
Just make this a reality!
Bioluminescent mushrooms... makes me think of so many mods than can be created off of glowing things.
Glowing ores, Glowing mobs, Glowing windows.
Thanks for the ideas ;D
so we now have spider in the nether, may we have giant bees please? zombie pigmen and skeletons can both ride spiders, but only pigmen and zombie pigmen can ride giant bees. the normal pigmen will also throw spears like notch wanted, and they will attack ghasts with them. instead of attacking you for gold, pigmen and zombie pigmen will attack you if you throw an egg in the nether, because they hate chickens and will go into lava just to avoid them. the nether will have gold in the bright layer (the layer you go to through a glowstone portal) and rare gold in the normal layer. so you dont have to go to the normal world and back. re-smelting glowstone makes a glowstone lump (like brimstone but yellow) which is freezed to make a glowgem which is then crafted with wood or grimwood sticks to make a glowstone longsword. glowstone tools are as fast as gold, mine all the things stone tools can (and are needed to mine soul gold) and last as long as iron tools. all pigmen will be changed to use this sword, and some will weild other glowstone tools. the only downside is it takes a full stack of brimstone to smelt three glowstone blocks into lumps, so you will need alot of sulfur, coal, or lava to make tools. and because they need to be cooled quickly, they will deal so much damage to your energy source when freezing, three units of redstone dust will only freeze four of them. so you will also need alot of energy. redstone, kritinite, and other power sources will not be able to handle large ammounts of it, even in stacks, so you will need to go to the bright layer to get a new energy type called a brentoid. brentoids are made by mixing all five types of slimeballs and crafting them in a small + shape. you will need green, red, blue, yellow, and clear to do this. brentoids are all the same, but they have a different icon depending on how you made them. these will act as a power source for a freezer, and brentoids are to a freezer as buckets of lava are to a furnace. brentoids do not stack with other icons, and only stack to a maximum of three. if you use slimeballs of all the same color, they can be used for various effects. here are afew suggestions: a green will produce small slimes when thrown, a red one will cause nearby mobs to catch on fire when they are hit by sparks it starts to emmit when you right click with it, a blue one will split into several usable air bubbles when you are under water or in soulplasm, a yellow one will cause a yellow dust particle effect as nearby blocks are destroyed (without drops) and nearby mobs are damaged (mobs will not yeld drops if hey are killed with this) and clear ones will invert all redstone torches within a 8x8x8 cube. yellow slimes are found in sulfuric acid, blue slimes are found in soulplasm (like i said before) and white/clear slimes are found in cold biomes near soulplasm. white slimes also cool all liquids so the dont sink and drown. this is just another long, tangled, broken, snake of ideas that i randomly brainstormed for afew hours, and i hope you have time to vew most if not all of them soon.

I thought up a similar 'Giant Bee mob', I never posted it, it started out as a larva, but after a night or two it grew into a gigantic wasp, it fired poison stingers and had 20 health or so. It spawned in the overworld though.
Also, my opinion on the topic, is I think we should AIM for getting Notch to notice this, but I highly doubt he will, so after a few years or something you make it a mod, but we must try very hard to get Notch to notice this (once we have it all fixed up).
Also, maybe there could be Red Moss Blocks (and normal Moss Blocks), Red Moss Blocks are created when Nettherrack is smelted for a while. The rock melts into nothingness (or Thermostite ingots) but the fireproof moss remains. Red Moss Blocks absorb lava in a 3X3X3 radius, Green Moss Blocks absorb water instead.
(that is about what the Red Moss Block would look like, maybe a slightly different texture) (Green Moss Block)
Also, I love the idea of the Grimwood Boat, don't know exactly how boats work in Minecraft, maybe Grimwood boats could go through Slowsand? Or maybe you jump far when getting out of one.
I like the idea of Sapropyte being anti-explosive, I also like the idea of the fire-proof flower (I like the anti-explosive idea more though), but I also like the Grimwood bucket, maybe we could combine these?
Grimwood Flower
A large black roselike flower, grows at rare times on Grimwood leaves. These flowers have the same abilities as the normal Grimwood, but not quite as powerful, instead of freezing stuff, they are only -1000 deggress or so. They can be used as buckets for lava. The pollen can be crafted out, in a kind of dust called Grimwood Pollen, Grimwood Dust, Darkwood Pollen and sometimes even Darkwood Dust. It can be thrown at a mob, on contact it turns the mob into ice.
EDIT:
someone offered to make my Red Mossy Catfish, but that doesn't mean I want you to stop considering it for this thread. :wink.gif:
