You do realize... that that announcement was about what we've got currently... not what we're settling with.
Yeah, I'm just saying I really don't like the direction its been going so far. Particularly the stuff like "unlimited uses, but power of stone" deal. I could get behind speed of diamond, durability of iron, and power of wood (only able to mine stone and coal) but otherwise that just feels way overpowered no matter how rare it is.
There could also be Sheepers (Creeper Sheep) that can explode, but only lose their "wool" in the process, and Chideners (Spider Chickens) that possess both the ability to jump rapidly, climb walls, AND float as they fall, AND can be ridden by Skeletal Cowboys.
I'm sorry... that just sounds rediculous and totally un-related to the Nether.
I'm just following the Zombie Pigmen idea to its endgame. You combine a Hostile Mob with a Friendly Mob, and you get a Neutral Mob that is more dangerous than even the Hostile mob when you provoke it. Creepers that don't die when they blow up? Spiders that on top of everything else can float when they fall a huge distance? Sounds like they'd make life hell for the player.
Thanks for your honesty and opinions!
Yeah, I don't mean to come across disparaging, I just basically have high expectations of this suggestion. Balanced gameplay and NEW experiences are important here, not just making stronger versions of what already exists.
And of course, please feel free to incorporate whatever you feel will work out of the stuff I mentioned.
This was truly epic! Something like this would make me go down to Nether more often.
I loved the music aswell. Very inspiring and well themed to Nether.
Nooootch! Take a close look on this thread, damn it!

Alright dude... good points, good points. One thing is for sure, you need both support and criticism to make a good thread successful.
My group realized that the Nether is not as intresting as it ought to be. That's why we made the announcement. We're trying to get it to a point where everyone will like it. (Even people like Sabata.) The whole reason for why were adding "stronger versions of what already exists"... which -quite frankly, I think is a logical fallacy in the statement itself... is to make the Nether a fresh experience, improved and unique. These items aren't stronger. They don't even exceed the Diamond Tier... they simply react different from the materials of the overworld. However, I see what you mean by High Expectations... and I certainly want to reach them.
I think I might need to make a list of where each item in the Nether fits in heirarchy with the Overworld items.
I do realize that they could use some tweaking and specification... so I'll talk with my group about your concerns.
As far as the indestructible item arguments go... I've about had it up to here with all the criticism, (*motions hand above head). Why must that one concept be such a controversy?
I mean, I really don't understand why people tell me on one hand that Durodium items are far too powerful when on the other hand, the half of them are willing to use inventory hacks to get all the diamond resources they want!
They often forget, also, that it isn't easy to get durodium... especially with the Nether being as dangerous as it is. AND MY THING IS WHAT IF YOU LOSE THE STUFF? Please try to think about it from an overall perspective. I've really tried to balance it all out. It's not overpowerful. Heck, I bet half the reason why people think its bad is because they've heard similar ideas that really did suck and they're reminded of those concepts which encourage them to jump to conclusions when posting.
I'm just saying... Hardcore builders would find this tool quite useful, because they want to build fast.
Two things:
1.) Can use more cobblestone for building as apposed to making more tools.
2.) Can save better resources for collecting more important materials.
I really like everything here. Damn, it's gonna get real tough if ALL of those mobs are added (but yeah, they probably won't all be chosen).
I know it might be redundant, but sapropype could glow and be used as dye juste like the new mushrooms. Or, it could be crafted into some powder with another function. Maybe you could put it on the ground to lure mobs?
Unfortunately this concept is so well developed and cohesive that it's likely that Notch will glance at it, deem it someone else's elaborate invention, and ignore it.
I mean, I really don't understand why people tell me on one hand that Durodium items are far too powerful when on the other hand, the half of them are willing to use inventory hacks to get all the diamond resources they want!
Logical fallacy pointed out in Bold/Underline/Italic. The people who are using hacks are NOT the people your ideas should be considering. The people who are using inventory hacks will still use inventory hacks, they are obviously not concerned with gameplay balance. Repeat this mantra and hold it close to your heart;
"Cheaters are not the same as Players. Vanilla minecraft is for the PLAYERS. If people are willing to cheat, they can do so themselves without fear of derision. Don't cheat for them."
Getting a diamond pick doesn't break the game because it's so rare, and it RUNS OUT. It serves 2 purposes; mining obsidian, and mining lots of stuff quickly. When you have less of it, you'll conserve it pretty much only for the first purpose, and when you have more, you'll use it for the second.
Iron has the purpose of mining all of the rarer ores; Redstone, Diamond, Gold, and such, so you can save your diamond pick until you've gathered up enough diamond to feel slightly more secure. (at which point the iron goes towards making the miriad of other items that require iron to make like buckets, minecarts, tracks, compass, etc)
Stone still has the purpose of being the most self refilling material, since using it on stone will always give the player plenty more cobblestone to make more stone picks with, and stone is 90% of the material you will need to mine through to get to the ores you actually want.
Wood has the purpose of being a safety net in case the player somehow loses all their cobblestone, they can still fall back to wood until they mine up enough cobblestone to make the stone picks again.
Not a single material breaks the purpose of another material. But dorodium would pretty much break EVERY tool below iron. It doesn't run out. No point to gathering cobblestone at all. No point in building any picks except diamond (iron has more diverse uses, so it's better to make the pick out of diamond and just use it for all ores that durodium wont work on)
I could possibly get behind durodium if it had the speed/durability of diamond (NOT UNLIMITED) and only the mining power of wood. You could make it far more common at that point, and it would still cut a rapid swath through both Netherrack and Stone, and people would use it for that just for the speed and durability and the ability to NOT need to use a diamond pick for the same thing.
But honestly, that's what I think Obsidian Tools should do. Then you could use 3 durability from a Diamond Pickaxe to get the ability to mine A diamond pickaxe worth of stone/netherrack (still very convenient without being overpowered) and ALTERNATELY, you could use the cooling properties of the Darkwood/Grimwood to chil a bucket of lava into a block of obsidian to be able to gather obsidian without even using a diamond pickaxe.
I love the idea, and i suggest you go check out shockahs more minerals because he does have darkwood and other ores now in the nether and i couldint help but think about that mod while reading this XD

Check out the Community Empowerment Project, post your mob ideas here:
I told you before, you may be leading this ship that is the Nether update, but you CAN'T STEER IT.
You are only reporting the direction the majority says you should sail.
If people keep saying "No Infinite use items" then bite your tongue and remove them.
Grey covered this best but I just have to make comment...
I mean, I really don't understand why people tell me on one hand that Durodium items are far too powerful when on the other hand, the half of them are willing to use inventory hacks to get all the diamond resources they want!
I'm sorry did you just insult people who are trying to make your idea better AND claim they were cheating at the game?
Get your head out of your ass dude and take a look around.
Not only is the "insult those who disagree" incredibly childish, it alienates people who had an interest in your idea. And as your thread is about reporting the majority opinion, NOT YOURS, doing so is reporting a biased sample and saying it's fair.
I wouldn't go that far. Just accepting an idea because a lot of people say it should go that way leads to bad ideas just as often, if not moreso. The important thing is separating the critique from the praise or derision of an idea. It's not just a matter of "I like it" vs "I hate it" but rather "I like it BECAUSE XYZ" vs "I hate it BECAUSE ABC"
Then again, I've only read the opening post and the last few posts. I haven't had a chance yet to look at how ideas have been getting handled so far. Rather than steering a ship, it's more like trying to direct a giant waterflow. If you want the water to go somewhere, you have to have a solid barrier that reangles the water rather than trying to stop it in its tracks and force it in a direction, and the barrier you use better not have holes, or the water is going to get in, through, and rip it apart/down.
Well you don't have to get rid of it, changing it is just as good, when it came around to it I had to do that often with my own thread (advertising is not intended). When it comes down to it, Notch will get the final say, he may just want what everyone doesn't or vice versa.
However, I do not agree with the dissing of people whom disagree, that is what helps get a thread blocked.
Here is my idea for Kitrenite and Durodium:
*Kitrenite gathers resources twice as fast as diamond (and mines the same too) but the durability is that of wooden tools
*Durodium gathers resources as fast as wood tools (and mines the same too) but has twice the durability of diamond

I once saw a chicken push a creeper off of a cliff. I never looked at chickens the same way ever again. That is of course until I needed feathers.
This is win. After the excitement of the nether wears off (usually right after you fall into the lava for the 5th time), there isn't much reason to go back. If its supposed to be a whole new world, it needs more than 3 types of blocks. This would make it much more fun.

Good points. I agree with you, although my intention was not to insult anyone. I can see why it would look like that based upon the way I wrote it. Especially with the exclaimation mark.
But why must every post you make be centrally focused on pointing out my flaws? Say something supportive, please; you'll have more success in convincing me that way.
