You just happened to make the opening post, that's all.
tungsten indestructible by ghast? please.
COBBLESTONE FTW!
Ignore him, he's being an idiot. There is a reason materials survive fireballs. Keep the indestructible by ghast, or I'll absolutely hate you.

Carbon would have to be a gas (So Co2 is Possible)
Hydrogen and Oxygen would have to be liquid.
Chlorine and Sodium would have to have the properties of Salt, or Salt would have to be Explosivie an Posioness.
Every element you listed is a solid, liquid, or gas at different temperatures and pressures, it's just the nature of their bonding which changes the nature of their outer valence and density, responsible for most of their interactions.
Well... I'm sorry you don't like the thread anymore. I added new stuff because I was trying to take everyone's advise into account... they aren't really all my ideas. Some of these are commenter's thought.
Obviously, I've already realized that its too complex, you're right. I think I'm going to cut it down to simply the mushrooms, and get more detailed about what they would do. I think I bit off more than I could chew.
Thanks for commenting, I respect your thoughts.
Don't cut it down to mushrooms, or I'll absolutely hate you.
You don't realize that this, for the most part, isn't just plain project-runway criticism, meant to kill you or inflict incredible agony. This is the criticism that is the natural by-product of good suggestions, also known as constructive criticism. Your mushroom ideas were a good, very simple idea. Not much else to them. Your other suggestions were good, but implied more complexity, and therefore more refinement.
If you haven't noticed, about the last 8 pages of the Aether thread were about Breezeblock. You don't think GreyAcumen's about to say "Forget that. From now on, Aether is only going to be nothing but aetherrock."
My criticism of your mixing thing might've been harsh, but that was because you're putting too many eggs in one basket, tungsten. I didn't like something so rare being needed for something so complex, plus having other abilities.
Also, who said specifically "OMG, NO CARBON, THAT SUX?"
I suggested that you make it a specific drop of the lava monsters in that other thread, but in no way did I say remove it. The other person said that carbon is naturally weak and not transparent, which means that you could make it easy to mine and not-transparent (Or, just not placeable, like sulphur).
Also, a lot of the reason people criticize it is to get their own ideas in. People like that, not only because they like their ideas better, but getting their ideas into this makes them feel like they chipped into this somehow, because they expect this might make a difference.
Maybe you should leave a little sewer on the bottom of your page, for sabata. This is where crap is stored for gold hunters, to find what they can and see if anything they pull out can be salvaged, added to, and made worth it.
You guys are over thinking this idea.... he's just trying to improve the game, sure there will be some disagreement but this is a game made for tons of people, just because one person doesn't like an idea doesn't mean notch won't add it. I'm not saying these ideas are going to be added to the game, I'm not saying they're perfect either but I like all of them.
And you guys complaining that tungsten is actually weaker than diamonds in real life and shouldn't make a better tool? Honestly, are you complaining that, that idea would be too UNREALISTIC??
I was just chased by a four-legged, exploding, green night rapist, an undead archer, a horde of zombies, and a spider the size of a cow....
What about the fact you can enter a flaming hell hole, by setting an obsidian arch on fire and walking into it? What about the gigantic flying jellyfish that shoot fire??

LOL!!
I like your advise, and yes, you out of everyone who is critical on this thread, is the most balanced. Thanks for that. And thankyou for this comment... it solidified my thought process on the whole situation. But, unfortunately, not all commentors are giving me positive criticism... as you can see for yourself... they're just being common critics. You are among the few who make it a reasonable question. You make a wonderful "Devil's Advocate."
I'm new to the whole forum thing. It appears to be happening so fast to me... I can't possibly get back to everyone's reply... and I try to make everyone feel like they're welcome to this thread. I suppose thats why I make such hasty decisions based upon what everyone else posts.
Do me a favor and take the poll. I think it will help me see in which direction these concepts need to flow, and what things need to be downsized, if any...
As for sabata, I don't think he's worth the time for me to have to make a sewer. He's just going to have to live with our mistakes... no matter how bright they may glitter and shine.

Thanks, I appreciate that, so many people take minecraft too seriously and ignore the fact that this game was made for enjoyment. That arguments been made all over the place, by me a couple times. But the thing is, the green thing has no scientific basis, except for that things explode. Tungsten being stronger than diamond is not a thing without scientific basis, it's contradictory to science. Adamantium, mithril, all these could be stronger than diamond because their made up. Tungsten isn't, and everyone knows nothing is stronger than diamond.
Don't ignore sabata, though. It's hard to believe, but he isn't downright trying to take apart your ideas. He's just trying to do some type of "Put on enough pressure on graphite, and it'll make diamonds." My sewer idea was not just retort: it was actually an idea I intended to be considered. He's right about the YOUR thread mentality, though to some extent you should consider it yours, since leadership is the most reliable system.
I don't like living with mistakes, just as a note. They aren't very nice, and usually don't do much for you, and all around are unpleasant in most cases. Mistakes are to be learned from, and then promptly left outside in cardboard boxes labeled "Free kittens."
I'll take the Devil's advocate as a compliment, though I have no idea what that is, and why I'd want to be the Devil's anything, I think i've heard it as a compliment before...
EDIT: Also, I'm not taking the poll. You change it too often, it gets confusing, and the idea of choosing only one is irritating.

I understand your argument, maybe a made up mineral would work, but it is just a game, not everything on minecraft follows its "scientific basis" In real life you can't make dirt and soil float, you probably wouldn't be able to break stone or any ore with only your hand, you also probably wouldn't be able make torches that never burned out, sure tungsten does have a scientific basis, but if this is ignored for other materials why shouldn't it be ignored for tungsten?
As for sabata, I don't think he's worth the time for me to have to make a sewer. He's just going to have to live with our mistakes... no matter how bright they may glitter and shine.
Bad idea, my friend, bad idea.
Realize you're now taking advice from someone who wanted to include something for no other reason than "there's no reason not to", over the person who helped Grey fine tune his skills to the point he could manage the 2x2 and Aether threads.
Also, if you take note from the Aether thread, not every idea was accepted under the pretense "it can be improved". Grey picked only the gold out of the ideas and presented what he could shine up.
Also, outside of B/FStone, all the suggestions were simple.
The ONLY thing simple on your OP is the mushrooms. (thus why they're the only thing I like)
If you want your ideas or your thread to gain any form of traction, or to become any level of accepted, you'll start listening.
Don't ignore sabata, though. It's hard to believe, but he isn't downright trying to take apart your ideas. He's just trying to do some type of "Put on enough pressure on graphite, and it'll make diamonds."
I forgot to add, "Sometimes, though, he's just a jerk."
Way to ruin my ethos.
First off, if there is no reason not to, but one good reason to, then that makes it a good idea IMHO. In the Phantom Tollbooth, one of my favorite books, The guard gives Milo the well-worn "Why not?" reason so that he may pass into dictionopolis. The same basic idea applies. I also don't feel like bringing back Breezestone into the discussion. You also fail to mention any of the other input I've had at the Aether thread, making it easy to make me seem mortal.
And I specifically told him to respect your advice, so it's not like I'm telling him that you're inept.
Also, like I've said before, the Aether was building from very little, and the idea has to be sold wholesale to Notch. The beauty of these modification to things that already exist is that the ideas can come as individually packaged gift cards which Notch can use or find later under his couch cushions. Notch might be disgusted with the mushrooms. He might look at them and say "Uggh, glowing mushrooms? That's so unoriginal I want to throw up." He might look at an the smixing furnace as "Hey, that's cool, let's add that."
The thing is, we're playing with odds. Everything in Aether is something we're about 90% sure he'll approve of, or that he'll begrudgingly add anyways. Here, we don't need to be so certain. He doesn't even have to add anything here, but he might look at glowing mushrooms, look at the centipedes, and go "hmmm." Then he adds a glowing centi-weed, a centipede-looking weed that grows straight up and hurts the player on impact, but if burned, it drops poison drops, and summons a thousand ghasts.
The idea is not a game-design report made to the producer. It's to show Notch what we think, and to hopefully give him ideas he'll like. If he doesn't, then we hopefully inspire him in some aspect, to inadvertantly "breed" ideas that he'll use.
We aren't trying to get him to implement our ideas, we're trying to get him to have ideas. Improve the nether, not make our nether.
To be honest TS. I hadn't read this page when I was typing up that response. (nor did I actually finish reading your most current one as I'm writing this)
But I will say that yes, some times I am a jerk, yet you got the message and put it rather eloquently.
Put enough pressure on graphite and you eventually get diamonds.
I'm hard on people for a reason.
Though on the topic of that ONE line in my prior post. I probably wouldn't have written it had I actually read the posts after the one I was responding to.
So... my bad?
(finished reading it)
Though in that respect, we actually ARE trying to get him to implement our ideas. They may not be 100% our ideas when implemented but Notch isn't going to do something like what Grey did recently. (Hypnotizing watch from a hanging clock thread)
Notch either has ideas of his own (the Nether itself) or he absorbs ideas we create (charcoal).
As I mentioned in the Aether thread, Charcoal was a user created idea, as was dying wool. They were implemented almost exactly how suggested.
High player backing, like that of the Aether, means Notch really needs to look at it and consider it for implementation. He may not use our precise calculations for G/FStone but a "blowing block" WILL be in the Aether when it's created (assuming the whole breeze idea isn't impossible to code itself).
If you don't get high player backing, you rarely get the eye of Notch.
If you don't conduct these threads properly, you won't get high player backing.
Ergo, you mist conduct these threads properly if you wish to increase your chances of Notch seeing your suggestion.
While Notch MIGHT see an underpromoted idea and make it his own, BANKING on the fact that he could will net less results than actually making a good topic that many will support (in turn greatly raising the chances he see it).

I agree with sabata and you on my thread mentality. This is actually my first revamp thread + my first thread, EVER, on any site, so be patient with me. I was being far too hasty and I realize that now.
There is a small contradiction in his arguement, however, -after some speculation. At one point in this thread, sabata was saying that I regurgitate everything waaaay too fast and that I shouldn't make people wade through the "crap" to find the gold. This leads me to believe that I should be closed-minded to most of the suggested ideas, which is, in his eyes, "crap". This I don't agree with. Then again, he goes on to say that it is a BAAAD mentality that I should think of myself as the creator and "leader" of this thread. -This leads me to believe that it SHOULD be more open to others. Which is what I do agree with.
I do see myself as the leader of this thread... except unlike many leaders I will observe suggestions, admit to my folly and change. Also, I take almost everyone's post into deep considration, because, 1.) I actually like a lot of them. & 2.) What others consider one man's crap may be considered one man's gold. Either way, I'm more concerned as to what NOTCH will see as being gold... if he so much as glances.
I was wrong about the hastiness... thank you BOTH for making me see the error of my ways. And you're always welcome at my thread, particularly because I see you both as strong contibutors to the finished product, which I believe will be true diamonds.
We're all on the same side, guys.
& thank you for your post. Also, I won't be changing the poll for a LONG TIME at this point...
I'm finally happy where it is... and I think everyone else is too.
I vote for no more blocks that take over 30 seconds to mine. Please. And no bad names. The mixing furnace idea sounds good. It would be a good idea to make it so you had to mix water with some other Nether block to make the gate to the Aether. That way, people have to spend time in the improved Nether before going to the Aether; they can't just stock up on glowstone beforehand.
Edit: I also vote against placeable portals. Just make two Nether portals and build a stone tunnel linking them. Then make a minecart track.

First of all, Thanks for posting.
The linked portals idea hasn't quite come to perfect visualization by many of the commentors. They aren't LINKED so much as the are NETWORKED. You need at least two portals to make a network, but you can have as many as you like in order to teleport from place to place. You get to choose to which portal you teleport to.
I may have to make some more images in order for everyone to understand.
And you're right about the Aether thing. There should be a specifc material, like how obsidian is in the Overworld, but a lighter block for the Aether. I'll have to think about it some more.
As for the smixing furnace, its quite the controversial subject. I'll have to revise and rethink on how all this stuff works.
I think charoite should be named obsidionite instead and add one more mineral called unobtainium. These are good ideas as i am dissapointed how minecraft only has in effect 3 "usable" minerals you can mine (iron, diamond, gold) I was expecting at least copper. I also heard from other threads that ideas for obsidian armor to make you resistant to explosions and fire. And unobtainium could be used for better circuits other than redstone? Also maybe its craftables have the same strength of the diamond but is 1.25x faster too?
