Check out my adventure modpack! 25+ carefully selected mods (Not counting Core Mods) and great for if you don't have that beefy of a computer. Plus it has over 2K downloads and counting so y'know it's good. Oh, and fully multiplayer compatible!
There's also the resource intensive version (if you can handle it) for a bigger experience!
I support this idea. I always thought of building a large dwarven city with deep crevasses. Kinda like the Bridge of Kazad Dum in LOTR. Other than that, I really like the idea of deep caves for more adventure!

it's changing too much, it wouldn't feel like minecraft anymore. also a lot of the things added kind of suck. making a modpack would be fine, but if this was in the packaged game it would suck. i, and a ton of other people, like playing vanilla.

Unfortunately, this thread -- while I support the original idea 100% -- has already turned into a chaotic wish list. I have given up trying to keep track of which features were suggested by the OP and which have been added by others.
I think we've lost our direction here, sad to say.
It's not directly a wish-list as it all goes in the underground theme, but yeah. Many people suggested many things, and some in my opinion are extremely useless. I liked the idea 103% better before the extra additions.
I support ALL of these ideas, and love them all, but I think perhaps the layers should be rearranged and the portals be a bit more clarified as to how they're accessed...
1) How deep is the Bedrock Plains level? It says that the bedrock floor is 20 blocks below the ceiling, but then says that the level is 100 blocks deep.
2) Is the Crystal level made up of lots of ravines like the Compressed level, or is it made of caves and ravines like the Overworld?
3) How deep is the Void/Far Void level?
4) How deep is the Final Labyrinth level?
5) Is the Evil level made up of caves/ravines like the Overworld, or just caves?
6) Is the Near Nether level made up of just caves, or are there ravines there?
7) By "lakes" of Molten Iron, do you mean that the "lakes" are about the size of lava lakes, or the size of the Nether's lava seas?
8) Are there portals back at the top of each level?

I agree with the concept of wanting the underground portion being deeper.
But, the sections and layers you describe... not so much. I feel that, as you go down, ore density and mob spawning increases. Then, much like Terraria and Starbound, add a "Hell" or "Core" layer at the bottom full of lava, tough baddies, and lots of goodies to mine.
For the mod, yes. I'm currently working on that mod. I'm just about to make a thread in WIP mods for the mod, so this thread can go back to being about the suggestion.

This is one of those suggestions that'd make people hate Mojang if it was Vanilla, but would make the same people and more fall in love with it if it were a mod.
Full support, if not for vanilla but someone who can properly mod to make this an amazing reality.
Why would people hate Mojang for this in Vanilla? It makes mining a hell of a lot more interesting and reduces lag.

1. I have to assume that there are multiple levels heading downwards. That was one part that was unclear to me.
2. I would say a combination of caves and ravines.
3. I actually happened to calculate it to be around 1,600-1,700 blocks below bedrock.
4. Again, with the calculations, probably 2,500 blocks below.
5. I think the Evil Level is just caves, I don't think there should be ravines.
6. Once again, this I think is made up of just caves.
7. Just lava lakes; if it were the size of lava seas like the Nether has it would be pretty insane.
8. Yes, you kind of have to get back. (However, I'm not sure about the forgotten level, considering you have to jump into the void in some way. But most levels should have the portals.)

Why would people hate Mojang for this in Vanilla? It makes mining a hell of a lot more interesting and reduces lag.
