Not like Microsoft is stupid enough to consider this, especially since they spent 2.5 billion dollars for ownership of Mojang.

Minecraft is not medieval-themed!!! As a matter of fact, it doesn't have a set time. And when and WHY did putting reponses in the quote, especially long ones, become a trend in the Suggestions? It's rather inconvenient, mainly since the OP has to gather your quote up manually. Avatar made by Endergirl!
I don't like the idea of free Minecraft because well, the company needs money. But I do think that it's a bit expensive for what it is... most games are like that. But, there should be a better demo. It shouldn't have a time limit first of all, but there should be a limit to what the player can do (they can't go to the nether, the end, etc.) A 100 minute trial isn't really fun, and you can't get anything done really in that time (unless you're really good at the game). It won't really encourage players to want to buy it as much as if they could play as long as they want, but get to see what they're missing out on playing.
I do agree the demo needs to be better, but mostly still timed. If anything, it needs to be user-friendly, kinda like the PC Gamer demo.
If you play the demo, and you have little to no idea what to do, you're not going to have any fun (Although I did, but that's because I didn't jump straight in blindly, I looked at the wiki's tutorial.). How are you suppost to know that the first thing you should do is punch a tree? Or that you need to HOLD the attack button to mine.

^This, I was so used to classic mode (or whatever it was called) I don't know I had to do that! But yeah, this is a silly thread.
EDIT: Forgot to add my main point, too busy laughing at myself.
Anyway, if it was free, not only would there be adds everywhere and wreck support for this game. But then there would be companies that would get a bunch of accounts, make the accounts join a server, and then spam the chat window with advertisements. It happens with other free games, (even Runescape is effected by this), and it would suck.
If Minecraft was free, Mojang wouldn't make much money. If they didn't make money, they couldn't afford to pay their employees who work on the game. Minecraft wouldn't be where it is without people having paid for it. While I can sympathize with those that want to play, but can't afford... I don't think a hand-out is the way to go.
Earn the money, it's what I did to buy it. I vacuumed the whole house twice to earn the money. It's not much, but I earned it. So, what's stopping everyone else?

Vacuuming and doing tons of other chores are just a part of my life.. I don't get paid. I have no way to earn money. "Well get a job!" I can't, I'm not old enough. "Just get one from neighbors or something" I live in the middle of nowhere, I'd spend more money getting to someone than actually earning.
No. If you cannot afford the game, that's your problem to fix, not Mojang's. If a full free version existed, what would be the point of buying the real game? Money production for Minecraft would almost cease. Then, as DragonCat said, without their major source of income, Mojang would start to lose money and the company would eventually shut down.
That's not how marketing works. You wouldn't expect a restaurant to give you free food because you can't afford it, and it's no different with video games. It's a huge slap in the face to the employees who spent countless hours making the game, and to the players who spent their hard-earned money playing it.
I think a free version of full minecraft would be nice. For support add advertising banners in the menu and in the game. Make it work offline too, as in you can play it offline but still get ads (like maybe download an ad folder every time you connect to the internet). I can't afford to buy and many others can't because some of us don't have money. Basically there's two free options as of now, and none of them are really any good: pirating and extremely limited 100 minute demo.
I'm unsure about whether this would be a great idea, or if it would be a porblem, anyway, I don't see myself playing minecraft with ads.
Not because he doesn't like, but ignoring the post will get out of the top page. So please, don't feed the troll. This guy came in with 2 posts and suddenly his joke thread gains that much attention?
Being a nerd is nothing to be ashamed of. Nerds rule the world! Who invented the internet? Nerds. Who created personal computers and smart phones? Nerds. Who made every video game you've ever played and ever will? Still nerds. Who sent probes to distant planets? Nerds, nerds and more nerds! I'm a nerd and I'm proud.
Maybe an upgraded basic version would be okay, with limited gameplay but the basics there:
1. Only plains biome, which generates no horses
2. No Nether or End
3. Fewer decorative blocks, i.e. no new stones, only Oak Wood
4. No generated structures such as villages/strongholds/dungeons
5. No diamonds will generate.
6. Survival mode only, difficulty locked at normal, no custom world gen settings available.
6. No multiplayer except with other "demo" players or worlds made using the "basic" preset which would be bound to all the rules above.
It would be good enough to get a basic idea of the game, and might be good enough for permanent use by like, small children who won't know the difference.
Awww hail nah, would ruin minecraft all together, its a fairly cheap game and I don't want some idioctic ad to pop up saying "LOOK SKIN LOTION CLICK MEH NOW PLZ", NOOOO Support!

Oh. Were people supposed to stop because you don't like it?
No. I already posted my opposition to the idea.
I just don't see why people should stop posting here.

Because that isn't easily trickable.
Cast aside your festive doylaks: dragon stuff is about to happen.
Multiplayer is lonely once you understand how it actually works.
