White coats to bind me, out of control
I live alone inside my mind
World of confusion, air filled with noise
Who says that my life's such a crime?
Trapped in this nightmare
I wish I'd wake
As my whole life begins to shake
four walls surround me
an empty gaze
I can't find my way out of this maze
'Cause I don't care
Fall in, fall out
Gone without a doubt, help me
I can't take the blame
They don't feel the shame
It's a madhouse
Or so they claim
It's a madhouse
Oh, am I insane?
My fears behind me, what can I do
My dreams haunt my sleep at night
Oh no, won't learn their lesson, white fills my eyes
And only then they see the light
I like and support this idea. It's a block that has multiple uses, which is always fun. It uses redstone, which is also fun and gives more incentive to gather it when playing survival. The benefit of having it is not so great that you absolutely need one, but is real handy. It can also be fun to work these into adventure maps. And I think the cost as is currently reflected in the first post is adequate, especially considering that you need to have a redstone circuit to get this to work.
I don't agree with the above posters, however, and think the %chance of making more is more balanced than always making more planks.
To those of you suggesting new uses for Emeralds in the suggestions forum: Emeralds have enough uses. You can trade with villagers to get diamond armor/tools/weapons and enchants. Stop suggesting that Emeralds are useless, and learn to play Minecraft. Thanks.
the getting extra planks feels mod-like to me... minecraft has a certain constancy that's hard to define. Getting extra planks seems like it defies that to a small extent.
You are aware there is a pick-axe enchantment called Fortune that causes you to reap more materials from ores than usual? Wouldn't that already "defy the constancy"? even more than this would?
I support. It's simple and the suggestion is well written.
I think I'll nickname it the "Wood Multiplier".
I suggest however, that you guarantee a bonus amount of Wood Planks and increase the maximum bonus.
Even if you're not in the wilderness, simply crafting Wood into Wood Planks in the Crafting menu is still more practical.
What if I gave it a 50% chance of reaping five wooden planks and a 20% chance after that of receiving six? I feel like anything more would make it overpowered.
I also suggest that saw blade wores off in time. Like coal/wood in furnace. It makes sense. Block like this needs its price.
I feel that would disrupt the sawmill's automation aspect- forcing farmers to replace the blade often might become a bit tedious and annoying. Although, with the sawblade, it might become easier to make adjustments in the future if I changed my mind.
Well if the sawblades were replaceable, they would probably have the same durability as iron. Which means they would have 251 uses giving you about 1100 planks for blade. Perhaps having two blade types? Maybe a stone one with about 200 durability but a low chance of dropping extra planks, like maybe 10%. And an iron one with about 400 durability and a 25% chance to drop extra planks. Oh, and the iron blade would obviously do more damage than the stone blade.
I like the idea. I just don't find it very necessary as wood is an incredibly easy thing to gather by the hundred or even the thousand.
What about being able to break other blocks as well? Like the base Stone family (Stone, Cobblestone, Granite, etc.). Typically you use a special blade for cutting stone but Minecraft has always been an abstract game. It doesn't make the game any easier but it would make the block slightly more useful.

do not want any "chance" thingsGood for you.
it should provide double amount of planks and stuff should be placed inside liek furnace Ok...
also its too cake expensive , replace iron block with diamond No. Diamond blocks? Are you smoking marujana???
saw blade could be made out of cheap 4 diamonds indead of expensive iron Yep. He's drunk.
and no noices , minecraft is already annoying as hell with all their useless noices ,No offense, but your post had no sense making at all. And kinda pointless.

My Avatar is a Dalek, therefor your argument is... EXTERMINATED!!!
You know who can tell me something I already know? Me. All the time. I'm really good at telling me stuff I already know. I don't need help in that department. I don't know about others, but I can't imagine I'm alone here.

Sorry I haven't been able to post lately, I forgot about this.
Anyway, I didn't want to make this thing "too good". I really just wanted a way to make wood cutting easier, simpler, and automatic.
- drop the blade recipe. The blade has no use by itself, and the two-step crafting is just clutter. The recipe would be fine with an actual block of iron instead.
- speaking of which : replace said iron block with better material blocks to increase the cutting speed. That could be from 3s/b for iron to 1s/block for diamond.
-The blade was originally added because people thought the previous recipe was too cheap. I believe if I changed it to an actual block, it would be too expensive.
-On one hand, I like your idea, but I think adding tiers to this block would make it a bit too "mod-like". Something I'm trying to avoid.
I like the idea. However, I think that it would mainly be used for trapping and not for making planks. It just doesn't seem time efficient to make planks with it as opposed to just crafting them.
That is the point: It is ore resource-efficient, but not more time-efficient.
I don't want to stand there for three minutes doing this for a stack of logs when I can take an insignificant loss and do other things. I think that the main use of the saw would be as a grinder for mobs since it does damage.
No support (or you could say only 33% support). You've assigned 3 functions to the sawmill:
Trap. (Judging by the name, this is a side feature.)
Crafting.
Automated tree farming.
There is a problem with the latter two features. If I needed to convert logs into planks, I would never use this, because it processes one block at a time and takes 3 seconds per block. This is horribly time-inefficient. While it does have the benefit of higher plank efficiency per-log, this in fact means nothing because trees are an easily-replenished, renewable resource.
Automated tree farming - or automated anything, really doesn't belong in vanilla Minecraft because Minecraft is supposed to have an adventurous/creative and simplistic feel, and this detracts heavily from that. You may argue we can automate certain things with pistons, and have automated mob farms, but mind you these are products of creativity and a couple of mechanics that just happened to work well together. Those types of automations didn't involve any sort of utility block specialised toward that purpose alone. You may also argue that vanilla Minecraft needs automation to which I'd reply, "that's what mods are for."
The only real utility is the trap-aspect, because it's less cumbersome than cactus and less... liquid than lava. However, if only the trap-aspect were to remain, the block would hardly be called and would hardly look like a sawmill.
No, just no. Sorry, but I really don't like the idea. I find it useless as it only has a small chance to give you more logs and it takes more time. I think it should always give you 6 planks, and have a chance to give you 8. Sorry, I just don't see a point to it as crafting planks would just be so much more efficient. And for traps it would just be useless because of the noise.

Mobs actually being varied???

Hmm, can you place it sideways? So that the blade can be put against vertical objects?
