Expanded Raft?: Expanded rafts hold up to 8 players and/or 5 utilities (like crafting table, furnace, etc) and things the regular raft can have but you just place things, not craft them on (you do this with shift+click).
Fireproof?: You can create a Fireproof Raft or Expanded Raft with one block of obsidian next to a raft on the crafting table. This allows you to go OVER LAVA and explore the Nether's hellish landscape.
Leads?: You can lead rafts together with a boat at the front to make sort of a water train! It decreases speed and if you have to much weight your boat(s) and raft(s) sink... but as long as you don't have tons of furnaces on your rafts you will be fine
Speed?:
Regular Boat: About 7 blocks per second
Swimming: About 2 blocks per second
Raft with nothing on it (or with banner only): 5 blocks per second
Raft with cargo or people: 4 blocks per second
Expanded Raft with nothing (or with banner only): 4 blocks per second
Expanded Raft with cargo or people: 3 blocks per second
Boat Lead to Empty Raft(s) (Or with banner only): 3 blocks per second
Boat Lead to Raft(s) with Cargo or People: 2 blocks per second
Leave your suggestions, and maybe a 3D model? See ya!
I think you should be able to make a chair to put on it. because whats better than a cozy raft with your double chest and your chair? I think its a good idea. also the rafts are good item transport. they should make a 2x1 car. you can hold a chest in the back while you drive. Perfect item transport.

It would also be cool if the boat recipe got a bit of a increase in cost, along with MORE STURDINESSSSS! and let rafts take over as the cheap mode of transport.

I see what you're thinking here. But like you said, why not just use a lead? I've never seen my horse drown after I rode it through a lake that was over its head. The Cargo option could be neat, as well, maybe if you wanted to leave valuables in the raft, but I usually don't bring my favorite items with me into battle. Personally, the way I see it, you could just use a few boats, but good luck!
Edit:
I now see other ways where this could come in handy, such as transporting foals (Thank you, UberFabarius) or getting stuff off of your inventory, such as slimeballs (Thank you, Kholdstare). Changed from 75 to 85 percent support. Good luck (:
"How often do you encounter slimes?" I have over a stack of slimeballs from caving alone; if one had a desperate need for slimeballs, one could get them pretty easily simply by going to a swamp.
That said, this is a decent idea. Support.

Did something happen to you in your childhood to give you this unreasonable fear of rutabaga?

well my horse did drown and i had lead. it could be the skeletons shooting at me xD
span>Think about it. How often do you encounter slimes? That is what I thought.
Often enough that, before slimeblocks came around, slimeballs had become a nuisance to store. As it is I have at least a single chest full of slime blocks without ever having farmed them.

Note that foals (baby horse) cannot swim in minecraft. Maybe you're leading a baby horse, hence why it drowns.
Or you may have accidentally glitch it into a solid block and it suffocated.
This could be really useful! May I present my idea?

My Avatar is a Dalek, therefor your argument is... EXTERMINATED!!!
You know who can tell me something I already know? Me. All the time. I'm really good at telling me stuff I already know. I don't need help in that department. I don't know about others, but I can't imagine I'm alone here.
What if you could attach rafts together with leads, and you attach one of the rafts with a boat. You could have a whole sea train!

I support. But the images seem to not be working..?
Same here.

What are they?: Rafts would be a vehicle with a 2 by 2 surface. They can hold a player on a horse or 1-4 players. They can also hold a double chest.
What use do they have?: They can allow players to easily get their horses to other islands and allow team combat on the ocean.
Why not use a lead to get a horse across the ocean?: Think about it. How often do you encounter slimes? That is what I thought.

"A hero need not speak. When he is gone, the world will speak for him."
Good idea, but you shouldn't make it good for long distances across oceans. Across lakes would be fine, but oceans are what boats are for.

=P Maybe so. I'll test it out
