If this has already been suggested, then my apologies for creating it. I searched and looked in the sticky and couldn't find a similar topic ... so yeah.
tl;dr at the bottom
Well. As much as this might ruin the element of surprise Minecraft has, it'd be extremely useful when, with a somewhat large update like the one we just had, that the user is notified after the update or when you start up the game major changes that they need to be aware of before playing. I don't want to check the forums, wiki, his twitter, blog and other sources to make sure I know of everything new. I know that his blog contains most of the official major updates, but it's be useful it was in-game too. Main reason I'm suggesting this is because no one notified me that lava was a 1-2 second kill now, and I lost a lot of diamonds after excavating a cave because of my carefree attitude around it since it was a peaceful server. (D:)
Please don't post saying "oh but you can just check his blog" since I don't think it's necessarily the best idea to rely on external sources to notify your players stuff they really should know.
tl;dr make a feature that at the beginning of a game you're told of the new things that were implemented since last update
