Hey guys, I am one of those people who love rain and thunderstorms and the sound it makes when it begins to pour down in real life but, I do not believe the default sounds that are already in Minecraft really grasp the total emersion of the soothing rainy atmosphere that we experience a lot during our rainy days. Perhaps Mojang could add new sounds for the rain to make it more relaxing and less loud and annoying. Also, perhaps they could add more realistic thunder sounds that sometimes thunder would be loud and then another one could be quieter. Also, perhaps the sound of the thunder claps could be deeper in volume so it helps make it even more realistic. Lastly, when a thunderstorm would occur perhaps adding twice as much clouds and making them darker and more depressing looking could also create a greater feel of a real thunderstorm. This is a suggestion on how to make rain more enjoyable for those who find it already annoying. I am totally open to opinions,comments and criticisms.
I am right there with you when it comes to loving rain and thunderstorms. Don't get me wrong, I am a fairly happy person, but right now (in real life) it is pretty cold and dark, even though it is still daytime, and I love it. I don't know why, I guess I am just "one of those people." However, I don't see a problem with the rain sounds in Minecraft. This is something that I wouldn't mind being added, but I also don't mind not having. Hopefully that makes sense. That being said, I will still give full support.
I absolutely hate rain with a passion! I hate it more than annoying people! That's something that I rarely say....

somethings tend to get old if it just repeats the same thing over and over in which ii love this idea maybe implant a weather update. i was going to say real time weather update but the days are to short in the game:P
Support. Having been in both England and the States, Minecraft weather is not too realistic (it always DUMPS on to you, and the rain is rather obnoxious).
Personally, I'd like to see an optional advanced weather system added, which adds in things like Overcast, Hail, Gentle rain, Cloudy (but not Overcast), and Clear (no clouds whatsoever) weather; along with the colliding clouds mechanics that was mentioned (which would need a size variable), particle rain (like the dripping effect when water or lava is above the block directly above you) and maybe even Tornadoes, Anvil (bad thunderstorm) clouds, and Hurricanes. Kinda like the weather mod: http://www.coros.us/mods/weather2
oops almost forgot. have 3 different types of Rain / lightning / Cloud, heavy, mild light ~ (aka) The Weather Update:P

The first two would be your tranquil and enjoyable weather patterns.
This would be relaxing.
