Super Creepers would only be deep underground, far away from lava
There's lava under ground in the nether.....
True. I've never really found any myself though XD But that doesn't mean there isn't! There's so much lava on the surface, that there's probably a lot underground too, just like water on the real surface.
I can agree... the Nether does require some tweaks to make it worth a trip.
I don't like the idea's of layers, and prefer to keep it firey, dark, and hot. I won't wanna see ice is the Nether or anything else cold.
Additional uses for glowstone, slowsand, and netherrack would be good as well.
A new mob would be nice, a demon or imp to act as a skeleton of the nether would make things interest, plus dungeons spawning in the Nether. A dark skin (brown, black, or maroon, or any other ashy/burnt color) and uses a gold bow. Just like pigmen using 'gold' swords.
Another topic talked of a compass for the Nether, a "Portal-meter" or something (they called it a 'Unpass') that can point to a nearest portal would be a great means for navigating the realm.
Either way, a tweak to the Nether to entice players to take more risks would be great.
One of these days I want to see someone create the City of Dis in the nether. That's what your different layers reminded me of. Anyway, I partly like the geography of the Nether as it is, a wild lava cavern with no strucure, but maybe at a fair distance away from the portal, across a great lava lake, would be iron fortresses guarded by demons and filled with the screams of the damned. It would add to the overall malevolence of the dimension
I like all the suggestions you made in this thread but , MC doesn't need blood , the nether is a fictionous hell , most of ppl that play this game are kids... or not , anyways Notch won't add blood (I guess)
What blood? Are you referring to blood diamond? It's just a red diamond. I never said anything about adding blood, mainly because I agree with what you said (Notch did say he won't add blood).
Ooookay... First off... Be more talkative in your threads.
Don't feel bad to bump your thread after it's been left untouched for a day or two.
It needs the publicity.
Now then on to "Part 2"
Okay, I know you like it but just ditch the layer idea. You didn't expand on how to get from layer to layer, and if it's going to be "portals" it doesn't expand the Nether at all so much as makes 4 new realms that are equally as uninteresting.
Gravity would mean that either there's specific spots with holes you can go down (that has Netherrack below it so you don't die from the fall), or "Good luck surviving the fall."
The River Styx, while also being a religious emblem, is basically "Portals" which sets it as no different than the first idea.
Not only that but the Layers of Heaven and Hell are very Christian references. Notch wanted to avoid religion which is why it's called the Nether instead of Hell now.
That doesn't mean the mobs or blocks aren't worth it, but I've yet to read those.
Zombie (or Agressive) Squids is interesting but no one's going to jump into Lava OR an Acid Lake (which you never really detailed) just to fight one. It's drops aren't expanded on. Currently this is basically just a "Flavor" mob.
Demons need something else to set them apart from Zombies other than a reskin. Wings, or Flight maybe? But on that thread, if you give them flight it makes them no different from a Ghast.
They need something else to set them apart, not to mention it's drop needs to be expanded on.
Super Ghast... I don't mind it. It's a relatively simple implementation of a "boss monster". You might have trouble with trying to keep it from despawning (to count the week), but Notch is working on that for animals (I think).
It could be procedurally generated when the world is created much like Dungeons. Though I think the Super Ghast might need more AI or options to make it more threatening than "A Ghast with more HP".
So... the Mobs need work but they aren't horrible. They all FIT with the Nether.
Brass, Mythril, Adamantine... Don't reference blocks if you don't personally describe them.
But, on that token, none of those three "fit" with the Nether. This isn't a thread where you say "Hey I like that idea, let's put it in the Nether!". Every suggestion has to make sense. WHY do these ores need to be in the Nether instead of the Overworld?
If you can defend that, THEN you'll win me over. (Our discussion on Blood Diamond is a perfect example of a "ore" that fits in the Nether.)
Soulice... Much like the Acid Lake (which, I say again, you never described in this post) no one would actively walk on it. They'll either take the time to mine away their path, or they'll just constantly place and pickup a lava block.
The speed up effect however fits more with the Aether, and actually is a suggestion in the Aether thread (Quicksoil).
Ghast Scale... I don't understand "2 steps more powerful". Though the limitation you presented to it (can't mine) leaves it fairly open to make it really strong for weapons. So flesh this out a bit more.
A simple "No." to the Inventory Spawn. The game would have to constantly check your inventory when the Spawn Cycles come around. Not only is that expensive (computationally), but it doesn't really fit (no other mob does it).
Lastly... You need a better artworked Banner :tongue.gif:
Welcome back Sabata2! I'm really tired right now (it's only 5 but it was a long day) so I may take multiple posts to dissect yours

Not only that but the Layers of Heaven and Hell are very Christian references. Notch wanted to avoid religion which is why it's called the Nether instead of Hell now.
Layers of hell is not technically a Christian idea. The layers of hell came from the poet Dante and was only loosely, if at all, based on Christian texts.
The Layers and Transportation (you talk about it multiple times and I'm not sure I could quote every one)
While I respect your judgement on the layer idea in general, ditching it just doesn't seem right. Others have said they like it, and while it may require a major rework, I won't take it down.
Also they aren't full realms like the over-world and original nether. They have boundaries and are limited (eg surrounded by bedrock on all sides not just top and bottom)
To add to first post: I will have to make the gravity method more clear. Basically rather than bedrock on the top and bottom, their is a portal to the next level.
The Mobs and Specific Layers
To add to first post: The sea of acid on layer 2 is a rich sulfur deposit, aggressive squids are an additional layer of challenge to prevent sulfur mining. I'll make that more clear
To add to first post: Demons shoot fireballs... I thought I said that. A powerful ranged attack sets them apart from zombies enough. They are similar to skeletons though...
Super Ghast... well it is a big jump for MC but I'm glad you like it. It does need a rework though... I present a call to arms! everyone on this thread should share ideas on how to improve the super ghast. The one thing that has to stay is that it is invincible. If it can be KOed (which is open to debate) it can only for a short time, and it has to have a drawback (like the rage effect right now).
The Blocks
To add to first post: The new metals come from my Metal-craft topic. I suppose I should remove them, it's best not to mix suggestions...
Ghast scale causing mob spawning is an issue... another call to arms is in order I suppose... So anyone who wishes to should share ideas on ghast scale, particularly on it's drawbacks
As for the "2 steps stronger thing" it's all on the wiki, each tool has a strength (eg. wood is 1 and stone is 2 or 3, I don't remember)
My banner does need better artwork, I personally threw it together in MS paint as a place holder in my sig.
I'm going to add the Call to arms to the OP now I'll do a bigger update later.
Instead of the Ghast Scale drawback being Ghasts spawning where ever you are, it should make mobs more powerful, or make you lose health every time you use a Ghast Scale tool.
As for the Super Ghast, the extra effect (besides rage, it really should keep that) should be that Ghasts begin to spawn to help the Super Ghast, and attack the Demon village. The Demons will then be very angry with you, and being to send search parties out to find you.
(Layers still have a heavy christian influence, and if you're going to introduce some religion it has to be seriously played down)
The problem with "flat layers of bedrock and portals getting from layer to layer" is it's essentially exactly the same as the Overworld and the Nether.
Outside the fact we KNOW the Nether is generated separately from the Overworld, you could say "The division between the Overworld and the Nether is a layer of Bedrock and we change 'layers' by portals."
Either you're going to have to introduce a new portal type, or you're going to copy the portals we have.
If you copy the ones we have, they may as well be realms of their own.
If you introduce a new teleportation type but they're still split by solid bedrock, there is no obvious connection to each layer (unless you know of the Inferno).
If there IS going to be a "blending" of the layers, you may as well just make them biomes instead and just avoid portals or (physical) layers altogether.
You did mention Demons would have fireballs, but I meant they'd need more over that. As is, they... "Look like zombies, walk like zombies, attack like Skeletons, with Ghast 'ammunition'."
It doesn't set them apart as a "new mob", it just makes them a new implementation of old mobs.
To go off the idea of Xkrule, maybe have the scale limit your max health to 5 hearts while it's in your inventory. (it won't remove 5 hearts, just if you have over 5 it sets your health equal to 5.
Some interesting ideas, but I've noticed a couple flaws with the layers, in that they don't really work with random generation because of having unique landmarks rather than being truly randomly generated. Other than that, very nice ideas. :smile.gif:

Yes, I agree. I like the whole idea about the layers, and making the nether have more rewards, because I have been building there and its not really exciting anymore. Although the teleportation portal or whatever that sends you to the next and previous layer should be randomly generated too, as in you have to find it. All of the things that have to do with something being in a CERTAIN EXACT AREA cant be true.
Description:
-Physical
It would be a human from head to waist, then the legs should be ghost-like. He should be a bit transparent and blue or light blue, or maybe even white. He could maybe have the default skin or another one, and should have his arms lifted like a zombie. He should make a really creepy and scary sound.
Abilities:
When he hits you, as he is cold, he should make you slower to move, as if you were on soul sand. He should be neutral. I'm unsure on how much hp and damage he should deal.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Name: Imp
Description:
-Physical
A small evil-looking devil(about a square tall, half a human) with a small sword or dagger, with a tail and red colored. He should be hostile and he should have an evil, short, high-pitched laugh.
Abilities:
Fire-proof(no fire damage) and fast-moving. 5 hearts HP and 1/2 to 1 heart damage. He should have a hostile behavior.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Name:Grim Ripper(or whatever)
Description:
-Physical
It should be a huge cloaked skeleton, holding a 2h Scythe. He should be hostile and very rare. If he is to spawn, there should be a throne made of bones or something. Once killed, he should drop his Scythe, which kills upon touching any mob, including yourself(He kills you in a hit, no matter what<HE IS DEATH>) Back to physical... he should fly around, he should be fire-proof(Duh!) and mobs should run away from it in fear. He should make terrifying sounds and should talk, like saying "I will take your soul..." or "Your soul will be mine..." In a very dark voice.
I believe i already said his abilities, but to recap:
-1 Hit Death
-Fireproof
-Fly
-Once dead, always dead(no respawn)
-Drops Scythe
And a new one:
-Spawn Souls
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
And,other than mobs, you could add like scream and shouts, to add some atmosphere to the place.
I always thought that if there were gonna be creepers in the Nether, they would be red FIRE CREEPERS! They explode and instead of destroying blocks, they engulf a 3x3 (or 4x4) area in fire.
Also, slimes in the Nether should be red too. It just makes sense that way.
I like all of your suggestions but what is missing is the difficulty. If I wanted a fight I could leave it on Easy+ but if I wanted more riches than I could handle, I'd turn it on Peaceful and loot all the villages and materials without swinging my sword.
IMO with this change Peaceful should be disabled in the Nether. Personally I'd also like to see more light distribution in the nether. It's so pitch black now that even if the whole thing was lit in a light level of 4 or so enemies could still spawn and it would still be scary dark.
I'd also like to include this suggestion:
When you create a portal, before you "light" it build a base around it in the real world. Then when you light the portal it will copy all blocks surrounding it on the same level (5 blocks high) for a range of 10 blocks. That way if you get unlucky enough to have a portal appear in the open next to a ghast field you have some protection that will spawn around you. (This should only apply to build materials Water/Lava/Dirt/Sand don't apply) That way a player can't build his base out of diamond blocks and duplicate his entire supply by making the portal.
Ghasts can also be annoying. They need to be quieter and they should only shoot when they are really close to you or when you look at them.
Hmm, I'd be glad to code in mob AI for you (I'm working on a fireball item ATM), and maybe some items, but I'm no good at modeling (except for things that use the same modeling as other mobs).
supported the nether could get harder and it is lacking blocks there should be a mineral that u find underground (or in the walls what ever) that u use to make tools with and i think it needs a agressive land mob badly
True. I've never really found any myself though XD But that doesn't mean there isn't! There's so much lava on the surface, that there's probably a lot underground too, just like water on the real surface.
