I don't know. If its as common as coal, strong as iron, and has double the durability it completely makes iron useless for tools. If iron was made a bit more durable than bronze, then it would be perfect.

Going back to mario-man's idea, we could put tin and copper on the crafting bench together to create some sort unified copper-tin item, which can be then smelted into bronze, this of course is to save programming time.
