I noticed a lot of people struggle a lot to get quartz after the nether has been raided by other people (multiplayer) and I just thought that was sad to hear because it's one of the most commonly used building materials nowadays. Therefore I came up with this idea to make Quartz a renewable resource by making a trade to get it!
Personally I was thinking about trades like this:
1. Emerald(1-6) = Quartz(8-16)
2. Emerald(1-6) = Quartz block(2-8)
Let me know what you guys think, but don't be a jerk!
No support. I think minecraft needs more nonrenewable resources.
Why, that would be a shame, because it's such a commonly used building material! If mojang would want to make it harder to get afterwards they could just lower the amount of quartz you can get per trade!
Support. Or at least make the quartz spawning rate higher. It is a real pain to go over an ocean of lava to get some quartz.
Well, the spawn rates aren't the worst. You can get quitte a big amount of it pretty easily in the beginning, but you have to make it into quartz blocks (divide it by 4) and you are left with less then you would have imagined and after a little while of actively building with quartz you would have to travel miles to get more. Therefore I thought it would be good to make it renewable. Also it would attract survival builders to start trading more often!
Then you could get all that you can craft with quartz without going to the nether! That would take some of the fun out of the game.
they could make it one of the last trades to be unlocked and only a rare chance the villager of the appropriate type has that trade. Would make it a lot more difficult, but still renewable!
I like it. It would keep the Nether as the primary source to get large amounts of quartz (at least in the beginning of the game), but provides a secondary way of getting it as well. Full Support.

When you find quartz, it's in really big amounts, and it's really easy to mine. Like he said, people like using it to build. So they should have to work for it. It doesn't need to be easier to find. That would completely defeat the point.

Look, you're logic isn't really making sense. I mean, even if it is rare, if you find it, you can get it without going to the nether, whether or not it's rare. But, it's rare enough that you don't get it, then it wouldn't be renewable anyway, because you don't have the trade.
So, either you can get it before you do to the nether, or it isn't renewable. Sorry, but the way you're saying to implement this wouldn't really work. I think the idea of making it renewable isn't horrible, but the way you came at it isn't awesome.

Priest would probably be the appropriate villager type, yes!

Please tell your friends to keep it going up!
