Sandstone is not sand, and cooking it does not render glass. Sandstone is a rock; sand is a million grains of tiny polished glass, pretty much.Maybe,I dunno.
However, I do like the idea. Think about a different implementation.
(But, resource packs will work even if you wish to use both. Just make the texture for some block you don't plan on using into the one for glass.)
Hmm, it's a little strange that you want to kick out the diagonal stripes but replace that with another pattern. Almost like replacing a dark blue paint, with a slightly darker blue paint. There's nothing wrong with your design, and if this was in vanilla I'd just go "Hm, how 'bout that?" without complaining over it.
If anything, I think we should keep the diagonal lines but have them repositioned better. Overall, 50% support. If I had to fully support or fully not support at gunpoint, I'd probably not support, as the current glass is fine.
Maybe smelt regular glass again, and then it will make the clear glass? This sounds like an okay idea, but I do use texture packs so it's not that big of a deal.
pan>Quote from AderoniusIn that case use nothing. Or just ordinary windows for big houses.
Oh yeah, those 'stripes' are actually reflections and I'm happy for it to stay that way.
I think the smooth glass would be good, because it allows for no interruptions of vision WHATSOEVER. Also, you should never make a glassless window, due to your profile picture Aderonius (Skeletons) and spiders! I support!
The problem with normal glass is that it isn't transparent in the same way that stained glass is. You could make those streaks in the glass partially transparent, so you can see through them. As it is now you cannot do that. Shame...
Wait, ModS??? I don't think that's going to be very solid to oppose a suggestion. It's too linear, I can literally go and say
"Hey, TheqoreeZ, I wanna cat!! Like when yo-"
"Use a mod"
Its just not a good reason to dis a suggestion. That's like saying I should eat a calzone because I hate pizza. No.

For those opposed to the idea, there's two reasons why people would want this over texture packs.
1: As previously stated: the desire to use two different types of glass. 2: Also, the desire for people to see your designs the way that they are meant to be seen. I would never, ever, use a texture pack because everyone else who comes across my build isn't going to see what I'm seeing. I don't want to build something that looks awesome to me but like crap to someone else...and that's what would likely happen were we to simply use a resource pack to augment the glass.
1. Resource packs were created for a reason, try modifying things you don't like or use a pre-made one, it's their purpose.
2. Seeing that some don't accept the previous answer, Minecraft - as you may have heard - created stained glass, somewhat recently. I often find myself using it, as it's benefits are that it does not obscure your view as much as regular glass, which you seem to have a problem with.
3. The world is NOT going to end if a suggestion for Minecraft is not added. So please, keep in mind, Minecraft has 16,547,000+ people to please, so it has to be something that everyone can enjoy. And please, don't take answer 3 out of context and quote me and say "dats wut i mean! it has to be something we can all like so why not add clear glass!" if you do something along those lines consider reading number 1 and 2 again and also number 4.
4. REMEMBER! Mojang has better projects to work on than making a new type of glass just because you don't like the one provided, for instance, you heard of the new release they're working on? Temples, new blocks, new items, new mobs and last but not least, a complete "overhaul" on the way Minecraft renders the game.
With all that said, and with all due respect, sorry but NO SUPPORT
Honestly, I would really love to have clear glass in vanilla, and this is a good idea.
It's just that it isn't really ground-shaking/epic/awesome/revolutionary enough to warrant trying to bring it to Mojang, and there are a few other suggestions that would please a lot more people.
Clear glass would be good, but they already added stained glass, so glass will probably be passed over for the aesthetic part of 1.8 update.
( I don't get why flaminghawk decided to restate his opinion over roughly two-thirds of the thread :P)
Everyone always says to remove the stripes from the glass, but I think it looks better if you remove the border. That way, you don't have windows that look like grids, and the stripes are so that you know there's a glass block there.

Sort of like the Streak glass in the Chisel mod, or like optifine's glass thingy. I also really like this idea and I support it.

I know I know, but some people are too lazy to do this, and it`s a way to add it to vanilla without removing the old one (because I know there is people who likes the old one)
I'm pretty sure it takes more effort and time to make these "pure" glass blocks than it does to install a resource pack.
Got it?
Why?Mods already are hard enough to install,so why I install a whole mod just for one block that can be easily added? That`s ridiculous.
To me, it seems pointless to add something that not everyone wants, if it can already be done with mods. Yes, some people want it. But some don't.

Thank you.

My best suggestion:
Mobs actually being varied???

Can you guys tell me if you want the crafting method changed?
You should be able to craft fiber glass.
Or you could just smelt glass/panes.
