With the additions of different types of wooden doors, fences and such, why not have different chests for each type of wood? At least to me, it seems like the next step in each type of wood having their own variation of objects. While this wouldn't add any functional difference, it would be more of a design preference. It could help in organization, possibly even for multiplayer: player A - "Where's the food?" Player B - "In the [insert wood type] chest".
Granted, there may not be much need for something like this. However it does seem to be the next logical step in the progression of having different types of wood. From a programming viewpoint, I don't think this would be too difficult too accomplish. Though it may be simply a cosmetic addition, I think that many players have grown attached to certain wood types and would soon grow equally fond of a particular style of chest.

I support. Who cares if chests don't have the oak wood texture. Other types could have unique textures too. The original chest wouldn't necessarily even have to be to oak one. Also, is this breaking double chests necessarily a bad thing? Use the same type for double chests, use varying types for compact storage. For example, if I have a room which is 5x5, not counting the walls, I would be able to put five chests in a row by placing oak, oak, birch, oak, oak. Two double chests and a single.

This can already be done by using trapped chests.
Speaking of trapped chests, every new chest would also require a trapped variant. It's too much work for a simple texture chahnge, in my opinion.
Not like adding alternate planks, stairs, and slabs would have taken a lot of work or anything.
I support anything wooden being alternately coloured depending on the wood type. Its an aesthetic thing, I just gave an example functionality. I think it'd look nice. Here's some advice: Saying something would take too much work is a terrible argument. For what was going to be dyed planks, I could understand. Not this. If I recall, there are 6 wood types. That means 10 new textures. 5 of them are the other 5 but with a few red pixels, and the rest are just recolours. Even if it did take a lot of effort, its still a terrible argument. They gave ALL wood types custom doors. Fully new textures. That's much more work than recolours, even if it is twice as many.
I would welcome this aesthetic change
