"Hello, this is Cayde-6 of the Vanguard. I realize that this is an abuse of the Tower PA, but whoever took my Sparrow, I will find you. And you'll wear a sign that says you stole... nevermin, nevermind. It's right here, sorry"
We fought for years to make food stackable, there's no way in the nether I'd go back to the old system. Reason? Storage space. Have you any idea how painful it is to have a while bunch of pork chops taking up a whole chest? Then when you're dave exploring, half your inventory is pork. Not fun.
Erm.. Maybe if certain food could be stackable to certain points, steak could stack to 8 and melon slices could stack to 64 etc..
But this...

My Avatar is a Dalek, therefor your argument is... EXTERMINATED!!!
You know who can tell me something I already know? Me. All the time. I'm really good at telling me stuff I already know. I don't need help in that department. I don't know about others, but I can't imagine I'm alone here.
Now you might be asking, "What if in a world that already has food stacked, you enter this command to make it unstackable?". I think the game would say "Error: already stacked".
No
All gamerules say "Game Rule has been updated" even if it is already that way.
No support. An inventory has 36 slots, I use up AT LEAST 9 for my hotbar (weapons, tools, whatevers). Leaves 27 for everything else I find.
And before you start "That's plenty of space", let's say I reserve at least half of that for food. Leaves me 13 slots, which isn't CLOSE to enough. My trips can literally take me tens of thousands of blocks away from my base, I don't need to have to crawl back home every ten minutes to refill on my food supply.
I would be fine with this if default setting ALLOWED stackable food. Otherwise, no.

A man who dares to waste an hour of his life has not yet discovered the value of time. A man who dares waste ten hours of his life has obviously discovered the internet.
Not as the default, at the very least. That would drive away newer players, as it would make the game significantly more difficult. It would also irritate people who don't like this who have old worlds that can't use cheats (you cannot enable cheats if you have a world that you switch from 1.2.5 to newer versions).
I'd say, don't let personal preference drive your suggestions. Instead, notice pseudo-objective issues to solve or notice a niche you think many people would love filled, and use logic to dictate what it should be. This suggestion lacks such logic. Logic would dictate that unstackable made sense when there was only one kind of food and no hunger bar, but now it would simply be overly time-consuming (what with the constant collection of food to refill the hunger bar) and make some items useless. Logic dictates that your suggestion does not fulfill the intended purpose you are trying to fulfill (prioritizing, making things harder, and increasing decision-making at the same time) and would instead make things take longer with no real benefit.
Guys, we all know Mojang is trying to make MC look a little more realistic. No matter how hard you try to protest against anything they add, it stays like that, otherwise the game would not make any sense because the game is based off of 'surviving', not, do what you want.

Completely wrong. Allow me to explain why with a bunch of text.
There is no aspect in Minecraft designed to do anything other than take advantage of the players' imagination. Any objective you think there is to Minecraft? Doesn't exist. People make their own objectives and want to play MC in different ways. Every person wants the gameplay mechanics to most match their creative spirit. It's difficult to add to Minecraft without disrupting that. Mojang has to compensate for these people:
It's easy to see which new content is for which group. Explorers get new biomes and things like Ocean Monuments. Builders get different purely aesthetic blocks. Engineers get the Redstone Update. Etc, etc.
If you will notice, "survivalist" didn't make the list. That's because surviving is a base mechanic, a goal easily accomplished by all of these kinds of people before they move on to what they really want to do with the game. No one goes in with the goal to survive and nothing else, unless they have a mod designed to try and kill them as much as possible. The point of Minecraft is to do what you want; the aspect of "surviving" is designed to enhance that experience for certain kinds of people. It is the same with any realism in the game: it's designed to enhance the experience of whatever you're doing.
Everything you just said in there is compared to life. Do you not see the words I have said? Or did you drink to much Dr.Pepper :3?
Says this is a reply to me, despite the lack of a quote. I apologize if this isn't actually meant for me.
My speech was directed at this: "the game is based off of 'surviving', not, do what you want." The concept of surviving is a mechanic, not what the game is based on. Do what you want is what the game is based on.
Your idea make the game too unneccessary time consuming and frustrating. I hate to access player inventory too often, in fact I hate to sort out all chests and inventories that can contain items. And the instant access slot ( 1-9) is too limited to let food occupies more than two slots on that. I found no fun about access inventories, and kick the food slot down the instant access slots every time too often, and I have to place more tools and things on inventory.
If Steve can carry cobblestone blocks by 64 per stack, which mean he can carry an small mansion on his back ( only need to place them down), then how can't he carry a stack of bread? The game logic is not as realism as real life logic, but how can it conflict with its own logical system? Only mushroom stew and cakes can't stack, but how can you stack two mushroom stew bowls? Can you place an mushroom stew bowl right on top of another soup bowl, and up and up? The soup will pour out if you do that!
