I suggest that Hedgehogs be added into the game. Hedgehogs, as I assume most of you know, are small mammals with a back covered in spines.
Appearance
Hedgehogs would be small mobs the size of a flattened player's head with a snout protruding out. The back of the hedgehog would be covered in spines protruding out. The hedgehog has no feet and 'glides' across the ground similar to the movement of silverfish but without the side-to-side movement. Instead, the hedgehog would slightly rise and fall to simulate 'walking'.
Location and Behaviour
Hedgehogs could be found in forest biomes. They would spawn around sea level. There would be around 0.1 hedgehogs every chunk. Hedgehogs will spawn with a chance of having baby hoglets. Hoglets travel behind their mother in a sort of 'train'.
If you find a hedgehog you can tame it using some apples, cocoa beans or sunflowers whilst sneaking, else they will run away. Tamed hedgehogs will follow you around in a train around 2 blocks behind you.. If you happen to step on a hedgehog, you will be dealt damage at the rate of half a heart a second so be sure to not stand on them! Hedgehogs that you have tamed will still damage you! To make them stop following you around, you can just plop them in a fenced area and quickly run out. Hedgehogs that are more than 8 blocks away will not attempt to follow.
Hedgehogs will reproduce if fed apples. They can produce a maximum of 4 hoglets although they normally produce only 1 or 2. These hoglets will be automatically tamed and will follow you as well. The hoglets do deal damage as well.
Health and Statistics
Hedgehogs have 5 hearts. They 'walk' quite slow normally (slower than normal walking pace) but can run quite fast if need be.
Drops
Hedgehogs drop hedgehog meat and spines. They will drop 0-1 hedgehog meat and 2-4 spines. Why drop meat? I believe adding more varieties of meat would be beneficial. Hedgehog meat when uncooked gives 1 hunger 'drumstick' but 4 saturation points. Cooked hedgehog meat gives 2 and a half drumsticks and 8 saturation points. Spines can be thrown as a projectile and deal 1 heart.
I like it, but do agree that 4 2x1x1 blocks added as feet would make it look better.

As I do like the idea, for I believe we need more passive mobs in the game, there are some minor "tweaks". First, the model shown looks good, provided it's the head. It defiantly needs a body and legs. The face of the model is not proportionate to the "body". Second, I do not like the meat part. Not only is it weird and the fact people dont eat hedgehogs, but if they did, it would have to give a smaller amount of hunger bars, considering the fact that a hedgehog is so small compared to pigs or cows, which their meat is more filling. Lastly, the throwable spines just doesn't seem right. Its basically saying that now you can throw arrows without the use if a bow with reduced damage. See it's just not right. So maybe instead, you can use the spine to also create bows, in the place of flint?
and since it's tameable, it should have a special ability, like dogs attacking hostiles or cats scaring creepers away. So maybe the hedgehog could scare silverfish away when you explore dungeons?

Why does it need a body? Hedgehogs are... a spiky fox head on legs. And people do eat hedgehog. Romanians do even now, and traditionally hedgehogs and other wild animals consisted quite a large portion of the meat in peasant meals.
Also, I don't understand how the meat is better than other meat... it is essentially the worst meat in the game. It simply has high saturation since hedgehog meat is quite fatty. And hedgehogs have an ability: they can injure mobs coming up from behind. I might add the silverfish thing too though.
I like this idea, except for the model. I think they should have legs, because without them, they look like a disembodied bear head. Maybe there could also be a 1 in 1000 chance that a blue hedgehog will spawn, as a reference to Sonic the Hedgehog.
Partial Support.
PS: Is there a chance to get food poisoning from eating raw hedgehog meat?

Hedgehogs! I love the idea and your picture is perfect. I totally support this idea. Maybe the player could use a bucket of milk to attract/tame hedgehogs since I've heard that some families in the U.K. will put out bowls of milk to attract them to their gardens. And what if the spines were an ingredient in a potion, like a Potion of Marksmanship that increases the damage from your arrows or Potion of Bullseye that makes your arrow hit a target even if it's a certain distance off? (Spines are pointy, arrows are pointy...it sort of makes sense.)
Actually, I was considering using milk but apparently milk is very bad for hedgehogs and adding them MIGHT cause people to do in the real world which could cause problems.

These would be cute and fitting for the game. However I don't like the picture you provided, it looks like a bear with nothing but the head.
I have a new account called "Mushroomsock" now, so please do not send me PMs.
no srsly.
but the model you provided looks like a minecraft meat
ballblock with eyes and a snout.Support.
Thank you for the support though!

My best suggestion:
Mobs actually being varied???
and since it's tameable, it should have a special ability, like dogs attacking hostiles or cats scaring creepers away. So maybe the hedgehog could scare silverfish away when you explore dungeons?
