Who made every video game you've ever played and ever will? Still nerds. Who sent probes to distant planets? Nerds, nerds and more nerds! I'm a nerd and I'm proud.
Partial support for the following reasons (sorry if they have been included in the 14 pages):
- How do you make the iron blocks unpick-able by players? Since the blacksmith may lose his house or something.
- Same applies for butcher, how do they know where to copulate or kill cows and pigs? Maybe they don't need a specific place, but instead keep a certain stable number of say 4 animals in an area.
- Similar applies for potions from the priest, how can you make the splash potions not touching the players?
And ideas:
- How about bringing the librarian along with you so he can sell you dungeon maps? The librarian is on for an adventure
- And to make it more realistic, if you hold an emerald in your hands, villagers will follow you like carrot-shown pigs.

This is BY FAR the best update idea that I have ever heard. If this idea is used in minecraft, villages will no longer be left and forgotten(poor villagers).

-Another block with a different ID. Not dropping when you mine it. But it has the same hardness and texture ... etc as the regular iron block. And I didn't say unpick-able, I said they don't even drop. When he loses his house, he just stops making iron golems.
-Mods did it, Mojang can too. They can give locate different houses with a data-tag. One for forges, butcher houses, libraries, churches and farmer houses.
-Kinda like the regular healing potions, they harm undead and heal other creatures. ( I'm not suggesting they damage players though )
For ideas:
-He only sells dungeon maps of dungeons close to the village he is in, not close to his current location. So he will still have the same maps.
-Villagers=Villagers. Pigs=Pigs. Villagers =!= Animals, hold a dollar in your hand, do people chase you?

Maybe they can have anvils to repair and enchant (with books from the librarian) tools they give to iron golems that get spawned instantly by the priests.
This would also mean that armor and tools on an iron golem can be seen.

The iron golem is already strong as it is right now. With a priest to heal it, it will protect the village FOREVER. Especially since zombies don't actually attack it.

Eh, what about using 'workstations'? That way, houses do not need to be modified. The villagers could simply go to their respective stations and do what they do. Well, just a small suggestion.

Librarian, first idea. (Except needing leather part, he already has books)
Butcher, remove interaction requirement, just breeds/butchers backyard animals.
+0.5
Priest- Healing is fine. Witch is kinda Priest gone wrong. The buffs I say nah. Plus priests can kill zombies now? lol. Also- healing stations are fine, but they won't trigger unless there is an injured villager or zombie nearby. I'd also be cool with priests helping to 'cure' zombie villagers.

The 'use' of those other villagers are for trading purposes. They don't need to actually DO anything.
The blacksmith I'm against entirely. But having one in the village for Iron golems to spawn as requirement seems alright- or the way to heal Iron golems is via blacksmith 'repairing' it.
My opinion
Adding a slight anti-villager abuse by adding a zone check. If the villager is 'trapped' within like 8 blocks without a door, they're too 'grumpy' to trade or use their AI.
What about you make you're own thread about it? This should fix a lot of problems where 6 villagers go to the same little house, letting another bigger one empty!

I meant that there should be one block that signals the villager where to go. Aaaand I don't think this little suggestion is worthy of a new thread. You can either discard it or add it to your thread.

villagers need to make more things but i dont thing those ideas would be game breaking.

Doesn't matter what the press says. Doesn't matter what the politicians or the mobs say. Doesn't matter if the whole country decides that something wrong is something right. This nation was founded on one principle above all else: the requirement that we stand up for what we believe, no matter the odds or the consequences. When the mob and the press and the whole world tell you to move, your job is to plant yourself like a tree beside the river of truth, and tell the whole world — "No, you move
Blacksmiths should automatically search chests for ores and smelt them if there's a furnace nearby. Perhaps you could also hire them to craft certain items, for example if you give them an iron pickaxe and an emerald, they'll have a "contract" to build 10 more pickaxes. They'll make one whenever there's a chest with the necessary resources and a crafting table nearby, and leave it in the chest. Every successful deposit will subtract one from their contract, and they'll stop after it hits zero.
Butchers could slaughter any mobs that drop meat on death and put the meat in a nearby chest or furnace. This will save some time and some durability on your sword, but he'll keep 20% of the meat for himself.
Priests, when near a brewing station and a chest with the proper supplies, will automatically brew splash potions
which they can use to cure zombie villagers.

So... Just making farming stuff easier? Mojang ( and me too ) are against farming stuff, using exploits etc. So I have to go against your ideas, automation isn't always good y'know.

Why do I do this? What is life? Why are we here?
Exactly. That way, the villagers won't be confused where to go.
