JUST now, my server mc.QueerCraft.net was bombarded by someone who thought it'd be okay to log in with LITERALLY 87 minecraft accounts JUST to cause spam and force us to be shut down for idk how long, ONLY because we're an LGBT supportive server.
Now... to fix issues like this, and to save ANY server from this kind of hatred, would be to allow ONLY a set number of Minecraft accounts to an IP address. The average number of people living in a house together is about 4 - 6... so maybe cap it at 6.
This is possible... seeing as chatroulette doesn't even allow an IP address to re-sign up once they're banned or something. This needs to be done. Like now.
ya the problem is is that hackers and spammers always have their road around problems and ayway this type of discussion might go better on the "discussion forum".
anyway i think you can simply install a plugin that doesn't let multiple accounts.

IPV4 is for your device only, while IPV6 is for your entire network. Learn your facts before spreading false statements about them.
No, IPv6 addresses are also per device, but it holds a lot of other information like the subnet and your MAC address as well. In IPv4 you need an address, subnet, gateway, etc, all separate, where as IPv6 can fit all that info into a single address.

And OP, that's not how this works. Its not as simple as "Allow X number of connections from Y IP address". Plus IP address spoofing is a thing (Built into Windows even) that would easily circumvent this restriction.
Could care less? As in it is possible for you to care even less then you do now? Or Couldn't care less, as in you have reached the limit of how little you could care?
Either way, please take your ability to "care less" elsewhere and stop spouting false information.

Cast aside your festive doylaks: dragon stuff is about to happen.
Multiplayer is lonely once you understand how it actually works.
On Topic: I'm on the fence with this. It wouldn't hurt that much, but a low limit would hurt players who aren't spamming. maybe a limit at around 10 to 15?
As someone who literally gets payed to know these things. An IP limit is entirely a waste of time. It is possible to spoof your IP address, tricking the server into thinking you are coming from a different place, making the IP cap utterly worthless. And to top it off, it would only hinder real users and not impact those that would want to do such things like a mass-login.

And I wonder how much of the population uses IPV6... Oh that's right: Less than 10%!
False, you're currently using an IPV6 right now. Again, go learn about it, before you post.
No. As of May 2014, only about 4% of internet traffic is IPv6. Any use of IPv6 the vast majority of us use is via IPv4-in-IPv6 tunneling.
So yes, go learn about it before you post.
