I think before the official release of 1.8 this should be added.
Imagine this you are building a huge command block mini-game on a snapshot, you place the final block and *BANG* the snapshot crashes the game and corrupts your world. If Mojang added a button at the bottom of the screen after you pressed single player that backed up all of your saves into a BACKUP folder in the .minecraft directory it would give Minecrafters a reminder to backup and diminish the number of currupt worlds that happen. This is a simple idea with non-simple results. It would make a lot of users happy! This hasn't happen to me but I forget to backup a lot and it will happen soon enough.
Why would young children (I'm assuming below the age of 12) be doing complex redstone or such or even be playing in snapshots? If a person is truly concerned about it, make sure to backup your worlds maybe daily or in fact possibly backup your whole computer each week. It's a good practice to get into. I personally don't see a reason to add this backup option but others might. Manually backing up isn't that hard and many people who have these giant worlds or do giant builds do backup their files constantly. I could see it working out for them but for most casual players I don't see a reason.
Thanks for your input!! I was using the command block world as an example, really it could be any world! I find convenience as the main reason I would want this added... I am kind of a forgetful person ;P

I used snapshots when I was 11, and knew how to do some not basic, but not advanced redstone.
Asking for support won't bring you any closer to supports.
I mean I understand your frustration, I've also had things go sideways on a buggy snapshot. Sadly, that's what snapshots are, broken and unrefined updates that just exist to show what's coming in the next official update.
Not a bad idea, but what Nocturnal42 said, you can manually make the backups.
Wouldn't a better idea to make it so that every time it saves, it saves 2 copies? One into the saves/worlds folder, and the other into a saves/worlds backup folder?

Because then something like 14w25b (which corrupted worlds on saving) would corrupt the backups too.

So you want an easy backup? I made this batch file for you
It has 2 features, creating a backup and retrieving a backup! The only 2 things you have to type in is your computer username (To find out the username see this: C:\Users\YOURUSERNAME\...¨) and the exact world name! (example: Test World)
