Here's another desert mob, this time based a little off of the scarab beetle. Like I did with my Shallowbreath mob concept, I'm adding a few more details to the information that will be present with all of my future mob concepts.
A Little Backstory The Desert Scarab is among the Minecraftian deserts' most common inhabitant. An armor-like shell that encases its body . The shell, though a great form of protection for the Scarab, is prized for its hardness and durability. Many miners, ever since the mineral diamond became even rarer, hunt the Scarab just for that reason. To make matters worse, Desert Scarabs are extremely solitary, and will attack other Scarabs on sight. Though many are killed each day, the overall population of this beetle is almost unaffected. Everytime a Scarab is killed, three more take its place.
Desert Scarab AI: Neutral, will attack (via melee) if povoked. A Desert Scarab, due to it being aggressively solitary, will attack any other Desert Scarab it detects. These fights will usually end with one Scarab running away to safety. Spawns: In the desert biome, usually alone. Spawnrate:common to uncommon Drops: shell pieces? string? Can it Drown?: Yes Does Sunlight Kill it?: No Other: The health points of the Desert Scarab are, due to its armor-like shell, much higher than the average mob. If it takes 4 hits to kill a spider, than it takes 8 to kill a Desert Scarab. Since its movement speed is low, the Desert Scarab is easily outrun. The Beetle Pieces, if it drops it, could be crafted into armor pieces. The durability of the Scarab armor could be between the durability of diamond and steel armor. I'm not sure what sound it should make, maybe a sort of "K-K-K-K" sound?
And of course, here's a rough representation of what it could look like in-game.
Any other suggestions are welcome!

I think it should drop shell parts that can A: make armor( it would be in between leather and iron for strength, cuz if they multiply 3 for every 1 gone it shouldnt be to good) or B: you could make tools that are somewhere between stone and iron. :]

Nice idea. A possible drop could be:
Since we undoubtedly miss Notch's single day update that let us all use capes (Like on christmas) perhaps it could drop the shards of the casing of its wings. You could craft it like a door, and put it on your chest armor area. It could stop 2-heart damage from creeper explosions, however it has a durability of course (maybe iron, it only takes 2 hearts of damage) If the creeper is close enough to give more than 2 hearts of damage, the cape shell still gets "used" losing durability but doesn't do anything.
That last bit was to prevent total overpowerdness...
just an idea.

How about this: = shell pieces.

Makes a shell plate. If mobs every get to destroying blocks, or shields get added, this would be like a block/shield. and if a plateing, it could be placeable onto blocks like paintngs.

Hmm.
Great concept...
:biggrin.gif: Probably won't add it, but i bet you could ask a modder to start working on it.
Drop idea: scrab shells should be able to make some sort of shell block? medium resistance? idk.
or when cooked in the furnace produces a harder version of the shell, that can be used in armor? idk. just one of my random thoughts. Be glad to test the mod out if it comes out. Great idea!!!
EDIT: Very, very small possibility, but could you amke them have little families like in the spider families mod? idk. one more random thought of mine.
i think that the scarab looks too spider-y maybe if it was more sand colored or something. and maybe have some of your special rare mobs drop little trophies for decorative purposes like oh, hi frank come look at all the mobs i've found, then shows frank a wall with little trophies like 3d paintings of some rare/hard to kill mobs.
It could drop shell shards, it would be nice to have a new resource to build armor or other stuff from. Also, I think the legs could be shorter, it looks too similar to spiders because of it.

Also they have 2 fewer legs. :wink.gif:
I think this is a good mob, but I can't think of a decent drop for it. Bug meat? Chitin? Scarab dust?

When I first saw lava I was like "Wow, so going to make a moat with that right now". But then of course, I burned to death shortly after.

Scarab dust sounds promising, maybe a way to ward off hostile mobs?

STEP ON EET! STEP ON EET! Lol just kidding.
Another great design/concept.
That's pretty much what I say when I see a spider in Minecraft.
Thanks!

Well, I DID try to make them look as close to the spiders legs as possible, just so they would look more "minecraftish".
Yet another great mob concept. Ya ever tried showing these to Notch himself on Twitter? If he'll take in Zombie Pigmen, maybe he'll find interest in one of your array of mobs too!

Thanks, I wish I could, but there are two problems. First of all, from what I've seen, a lot of people tweet to Notch regularly, so I personaly doubt he'll ever notice a tweet from me about one of my mob concepts. The other problem is that I don't have a twitter account (I don't intend to get one), so I can't tweet anything to him. I can always cross my fingers and hope that he or one of his staff sees my mob suggestions and likes it or I can mod them in (something I looking into), but IMHO, that wouldn't be as great as it being officially implemented. Wait, am I being too pessimistic here?
...sooner or later, people in multiplayer servers will be going around with these scarabs on saddles only to unleash them on others scarabs in tiny desert arenas. +! great idea

I'm open to suggestions about the drop.
Thanks, I'm glad you like it
They're MUCH smaller. Also different color.
Also they have 2 fewer legs. :wink.gif:

Seeing as pets do not exist in Minecraft, no.
I would doubt it if I ever implement it.
Thanks!

But it would stand maybe a little taller on its legs.
But @Lucario621
What you have there is a stag beetle, not a scarab
