Ever thought that there weren't enough trees in Minecraft? That they all look the same?
Well me too! I have an idea to add a great deal of trees and other plant life to Minecraft. Some would provide new resources; some are just for aesthetic reasons but they would all fill out the game and make it better. As they say, variety is the spice of life!
I am designing textures for the new plants, mainly based off of the default resource pack. Also, feel free to suggest new plants or trees for me to design, and provided I have enough time I will add them to this thread. I will be updating regularly.
Without further ado, here are some of the new trees/plants and biomes that I thought of.
Aspen Tree
The Aspen tree is similar to the birch because of its coloration, although they do have differences. The aspen's planks are whiter and its leaves are lighter. It also has a taller shape to it. The occur in forest biomes, and in a new, forested mountains biome.
Elm
The Elm tree is quite a large tree, with beautifully colored leaves and a darker trunk. The planks are substantially darker than oak planks. The trees would occur in forest biomes.
Maple
The maple has very bright orange/red leaves, and a tall, conical shape. Its trunk and planks have a faint reddish tinge to them. The Maple occurs in the forest and the mountain forest biome.
Palm
Palm trees grow within three blocks of a water source. They grow in the jungle, on islands and in the new oasis biome. Palm trees grow coconuts on their top block of wood. They behave similarly to cocoa beans, being a block that you can break to get 2 - 3 coconuts. The difference is that you do not replant the coconut onto the wood. It eventually regrows by a chance of about 1/3000 ticks. Coconuts restore one food.
Willow
Willow trees have long, trailing leaves that are covered in vines. The trunk and planks have a green tinge to them. Willow trees occur in swamps.
*Note: This is not a mod. It is just a suggestion for Mojang to implement more trees using re textured wood and leaf blocks to demonstrate what I am talking about.
Seems like it has potential. Out of what you have so far, support.
Maybe you could add maple trees? Maybe large spruce trees also have their own tree type called redwood? Maybe swamp trees could also have their own tree type called willow?
To be honest they would be have to be aesthetic as they are too similar to existing ones - apart from palm. Only feeling the palm tree to be honest, Your initial statement of them all looking them same is null when - apart from palm these do just that, look to similar to existing ones. So no support at the moment.
Maybe aspen wood could be somewhere between oak plank color and natural jungle plank color? (Looking at Google images.) As I say, right now they'd only be purely purely aesthetic. Aspen would have to have more of an autumn kind of look leave IMO, and Elm grow outward more - maybe monster trees only?

I already thought of doing all the trees you were talking about, aside from the paper one. The apple tree was the one that sparked it all, as I thought "Isn't it a bit weird that apples come from an oak?"

How about some kind of paper tree that can be crafted into paper?
You have my support!
Except I thought mojang doesn't read these...
I really don't know what to put here...

So exactly what biomes will they spawn in, and how much will they spawn?

We already have oak trees in Minecraft. I wouldn't mind seeing pine trees, though.
I mean like those big Live Oak trees, haha xD
