Pretty simple... all i want is redstone dust to be half a block tall. This meaning that it can e placed on/under slabs(and any future half high blocks). This would let wiring be more compact, and lets be honest, IRL, if you sprinkle some powder on the ground, its most likely not going to be a meter high.
That's not how half-blocks work. Every block still fills the entire space, no matter how high it is. Redstone occupies it's entire block space, as do torches, carpets halfsalbs, and so on. When you stack half slabs, the game doesn't just place a half block onto another half block. The game places a double-slab block that breaks into two half slabs when broken.
In short: It doesn't work the way you suggest it.
No support.
I know it doesn't... I am suggesting that it does. Also, saying "halfslab" is redundant.
What? I dont know what you are talking about. I just mean redstone with a half-block over it/redtone under a half-block will be a full block. If you mean putting redstone on a slab(top half of block) to go up, then it would change nothing as the slab would be on the top half. Although i think with the it might be possible to make this design more compact.

Basically, this; they would have to recode the entire game, including changing the save format, to vertically split the world up into 512 blocks instead of 256 blocks (with normal blocks taking up 2 spaces), or allow two different blocks to occupy the same space; this is the same reason why you can use signs to make "air" pockets underwater, which are really just sign blocks, you can breathe because the game treats such blocks like air; or why two different slabs can't stack unless they are in different block positions.

Fine then. What about a new block type then is created when redstone is placed under/over a slab. And then the different types of slabs are different data values. And they will act exactly like redstone.
Minecraft is currently bound by the rule that multiple blocks cannot be in the same place. Working around this is something that would take huge amounts of effort. While this has been done by mods in the past (by the famous Red Power 2 and more recently with Forge Multipart), it took weeks of nonstop work to get this accomplished. While half slabs can be stacked on top of each other, you may have notices that they must be the same half slab, and you cannot stack a stone half slab on top of a brick half slab. Adding half slabs on top of redstone would be useful for redstoners, allowing slightly more compact builds, it is far too much work for what it will add. The Mojang team has too many other priorities than to add this. Sorry but, no support.

What does "...Support?" mean exactly?
It means that, while it seems a little useless, It wouldn't hurt to add it.

TheMasterCaver's First World - possibly the most caved-out world in Minecraft history - includes world download.
TheMasterCaver's World - my own version of Minecraft largely based on my views of how the game should have evolved since 1.6.4.
Why do I still play in 1.6.4?
I think it would make red stoning a lot more simpler and compact.
