Hoes should not be able to break crops until they've finished growing.
That would make them useful for harvesting wheat, and other crops, allowing you to click without worrying about accidentally breaking immature plants that aren't ready yet.
It would also provide a reason to make hoes out of iron and diamond, so you don't have to replace them often.
It doesn't make sense. Why shouldn't they break immature crops?
It does. It's to make wheat farming easier and faster without having to worry about accidentally breaking non-fully grown crops. It's also useful if you have no bones or bone meal on hand to regrow the broken immature crops.
Well, a hoe is typically used between the rows to only destroy weeds, thin crops and till the soil. A user would normally avoid the plants they want to save.
I'd say this is easily represented by adding the feature that Hoes don't break immature plants. And make them way more useful.
Well, it would be just a waste of time, and really, we pull crops by hand, and I think with being able to take crops out by hand, Mojang are still trying to bring a bit of real life into Minecraft.

Partial support. I would say make so they can break immature crops, but make so it takes like a half a second or a second to do so, and make that the case when breaking an immature crop with any item. That way it still can break them, but you won't do it by accident.

What if someone wanted to move their crops to another place?
If you didnt have bonemeal you would have to wait for them to grow up before moving them.
Maybe have an option like this:
- not able break growing crops/ able to break growing crops -
I don't think it's too hard to see which crops are fully grown yet, nor to selectively break only those fully grown crops.
Anyway, if the hoe gets this kind of functionality, it should at least lose a bit of it's durability when breaking crops, and maybe also when you click a crop that isn't grown yet.

Instead of making all hoes to be more intelligent than the typical new player, how about we invent a new enchantment for hoes only that would bestow this magical good judgment upon them?
Then we could still easily replant a field if we want (just use a non-magic tool), and it might even make sense to craft one hoe out of a durable material.
Note: If you walk through your field while reaping it, then you might still run the risk of uprooting your crops by stepping on them.

Makes farming easier, it's efficient, hoes are more useful. I don't see why this shouldn't be added.

It may not be realistic, but that's not the point of the game. There needs to be a sort of presiding farm tool, for lack of a better word.

Right. You'd still be able to break baby plants with your hands or any other tool.
