So would there be an option to turn this on(on any mode) or is it only on hard mode and normal.
edit:if this get implemented someone should suggest foodcraft or something like that.
While a hunger system does sound interesting, I can't help but feel that it's unnecessary. Taking damage from mobs already spurs the player to consume food, the very same food that would be eaten in order to sustain himself.
I feel that falling damage, environmental hazards and mobs themselves do enough damage to you over time that it feels like any sort of need to eat in order to simply sustain yourself is already covered by eating in order to avoid starvation. Ie, I consume enough bacon in my adventures that I can't imagine being hungry as it is, so why is implementing a system that's rendered moot by the very gameplay of Minecraft itself a worthwhile pursuit?
I think the idea of hunger, energy, etc, all of those "sims-like" needs are interesting, but they don't have much of a place in Minecraft and would only serve as a redundant distraction since food is already utilized often enough for other purposes that dying of starvation in Minecraft is fairly unfeasible, and if a situation presented itself where it was plausible, I feel that the death suffered because of starvation would ultimately only be a source of frustration and preventing that death would be more of a chore than a proper challenge or interesting gameplay mechanic.
Good idea. But three days seems a bit short. Maybe five?
I mean, if you're stuck in a cave with no clock, you'll have no idea how many days have passed and how much time you have before you die, apart from the hunger icon. (Which could possibly be changed into a hunger bar?)
You should be able to turn it off and on in the Options. Don't make it to where you can only turn it off in Peaceful. What if I wanted to do a Medium-Hard level without Hunger? We need a box to check and uncheck. If you add that then I
I think if hunger is implemented it should be exactly like this. If it took seven full days to starve to death you would never have to worry about it, I think most people would naturally eat enough food in those seven days to stay alive. But as I've stated already, hunger isn't necessary, it just adds another burden on players who just want to explore and build.

Exactly
There would be no difference between how you play now and WITH Hunger except for the little "I'm hungry" being on your screen every once and awhile. It's pointless to add.
I really like this idea, another challenge is exactly what I need, plus it keeps the people who think they're all cool by standing in a mob trap to get items and going afk for days from doing that. ( in my opinion if you're gonna go away and stand in a trap you might as well just use an invedit.)
I also like that it makes sense in a reasonable time period. instead of every 4 minutes having to return to the surface to punch a pig.

I refuse to tiptoe through life, only to arrive safely at death.

I also like your second idea. Rarer foods should make you less hungry, as well as foods that require effort to make (mushroom stew)
Yeah this sounds like a good addition. Cooked Pork, say, gives you a lot of life in Minecraft right now, so it is preferred as a food source. BUT make it so that pork is actually terrible at fulfilling hunger, with the best being complex dishes like the stew/bread or cake (best, i guess)
Oh and sandwiches,

With the bread being broken down to its core recipe, obviously. That TOO!
Well done, OP
Honestly, I don't even remember eating to fix hunger in Stalker, so I think that this could be implemented seamlessly.

The hungrier you are: the longer it takes to mine/perform actions?
