Now that Notch has added in new capes including the christmas special cape (automatic upon entering minecraft) i got instant inspiration for this topic.
Cape Award System :
Doing things in Minecraft will award you with new capes to select from depending on what you do and the game will alert you when a cape is awarded, like "Cape Awarded!". To see your new cape you have to exit to the main menu and go into options, then select the "Capes" button. A Pop up screen will come up and show images of all your capes so you know what they look like. All you have to do is click the cape and it will be worn into minecraf. A cape that is faded out is one not yet awarded, hover over it with your mouse to see how to earn it. Some capes might be secret and not say how you can earn them, making them either rare or have a special design on them. Capes are permanantly stored in your account so when you get a cape you can use it any time you want. Some capes may only be earned once in a lifetime or once in a year.
Specific Cape Ideas :
Capes earned for buying the alpha or beta version of minecraft. Playing minecraft online or a certain amount of times or for an amount of time like hours or so. Playing minecraft on a holiday like halloween or easter. Mining a certain material on minecraft or finding one like mushrooms or pumpkins. Capes earned for creating a profile on minecraft forums or for going to notch's dev. blog. Killing a certain type of monster a certain amount of times. Crafting special types of items.
Some other capes may be earned by doing something multiple times :
Kill 50 monsters in minecraft Hunt 5 pigs. Craft 3 loafs of bread. Play minecraft for one hour for 3 days.
This could be like an achievment system like on Xbox or Playstation.
I really love this idea and i think many minecrafters would go nuts for something like this.

nah im just kidding, i did not post a bunch of achievment types because if this becomes possible it would be up to Notch and his buddies to think up. I dont wish to make a HUGE list of capes because he might not need all of them, plus it would take TONS of time to program the achievments, plus make the capes .

I like these. Why not make one for, say, smelting a certain amount of ores to bars, or sand to glass? Mining a certain amount of rare mineral? Perhaps some funny ones, like fall into naturally occurring lava X times?
I REALLY dont like the idea of how earning capes will affect your gameplay, like giving you new backrounds or giving you damage or health upgrades. It would take TOO long to program all of that, and besides, Minecraft is not going to turn into Runescape. Then it would not be Minecraft at all!
Plus your list of achievments are too much like CoD: Modern warfare 2, make up something original. i have an idea for that right now infact... but i want to see if you can figure it out :tongue.gif:

Aumir, dude... No offense, but I think you butchered my idea... I have some more, and will post them soon! Also, I DO like the bonuses idea, because in Single Player, how do you show off a cape if it's only for looks? If you strived to earn it, why would it be pointless to obtain? And by Mob Spawner music there IS a creepy music sound that plays when you are near a dungeon. Besides, with the pig farms, if Notch already put in the time, effort an coding into it, why delete it?
EDIT: I took a second look at the achievements that you wrote Aumir, and I like the idea of the multiples of 64 going there. BUT honestly (For Master Excavator) when will you need to get 64 Diamond? Once you have all diamond tools (Diamond Pickaxe, Diamond Shovel, Diamond Axe, Diamond Hoe and Diamond Sword), armour (Diamond Platebody, Diamond Platelegs, Diamond Boots and Diamond Helmet) and a Juke Box (24 Diamonds needed) you're pretty much set for life. So you would need 3 SETS of all of the possible Diamond items to get that achievement.
I think I'm taking up a lot of space for your post, so when I'm

I like these. Why not make one for, say, smelting a certain amount of ores to bars, or sand to glass? Mining a certain amount of rare mineral? Perhaps some funny ones, like fall into naturally occurring lava X times?
Plus your list of achievments are too much like CoD: Modern warfare 2, make up something original. i have an idea for that right now infact... but i want to see if you can figure it out :tongue.gif:

EDIT: I took a second look at the achievements that you wrote Aumir, and I like the idea of the multiples of 64 going there. BUT honestly (For Master Excavator) when will you need to get 64 Diamond? Once you have all diamond tools (Diamond Pickaxe, Diamond Shovel, Diamond Axe, Diamond Hoe and Diamond Sword), armour (Diamond Platebody, Diamond Platelegs, Diamond Boots and Diamond Helmet) and a Juke Box (24 Diamonds needed) you're pretty much set for life. So you would need 3 SETS of all of the possible Diamond items to get that achievement.
