If survival mechanics were implemented, this could make for some interesting scenarios.
Imagine it: you're playing Dungeons & Levers mode, and you've gotten yourself lost in ancient ruins you were exploring. Your food is running out and your fuels are being used up purifying water to drink from the ruins, but they are running out as well.
Do you burn your diaries, logs, and maps in the hope that it may buy some time in which somebody may rescue you?
Or do you write out your last moments, and leave the book behind as a warning to other adventurers?

Professional Underwater Lava-miner.
Also a massive mushroom mongler.
Books capable of burning would be nice, though they would be fairly useless given that coal, sticks and wood are significantly easier to obtain and burn longer.

I believe the principle of the matter is that the books are a fuel source of last resort.

this would be nice to have in SMP.
coal isn't much of an issue, but it is worth mentioning if the server doesn't have a minecart system set up.
and seeing as how many servers are nearly treeless because of the two people who built massive log cabins and never planted trees... the necessity for this sort of stacks up...
at least with reeds (and thus books) if each person was given even just one, then they would be able to have a large supply in a timeline of about 15 minutes...
I'm imagining burning the Library of Alexandria in Minecraft. It would be epic.
OK, now THATS tasteless. I mean, come on! It was already burned down once, what makes you think that the largest repository of human knowledge in the ancient world needs to be burned again?
BURNING BOOKS.
That's right, your reed farm is now useful when creating massive smoothstone structures.
Every book would burn at a stick or less's strength.
Any problems with this?

They asked me how well I understood theoretical physics. I told them I had a theoretical degree in physics. They said welcome aboard.

Not tasteless unless we could actually write in them.

Yes, because after all if we ever want something useful we must not suggest to notch, but instead get a mod.
You didn't even post a link.

Fair enough, though I do wish we had official, functional books.

I was thinking around stick strength :smile.gif:
