why did you quote me and change it to something I didn't say? not cool dude. Don't do that.
I said that they should swim a little slower than the player, since they are meant for fast travel over land. They aren't sea creatures, so they should be pretty dang slow in the water.
However, if they are in shallow enough water-shallow enough for them to still touch the bottom- ,they should go at normal speed.

Oh, sorry, I didn't even try to do that, must have screwed something up, let me fix that.
I just looked at the model, and it seems that the legs are 1 and a half block high, and the body is 1 (not the neck and head), which means I think it should go like this:
1 block deep = slightly slower than the Moa's normal speed but still faster than a player's walking speed
2 blocks deep = Slower than player walking but faster than player swimming and nearly that of the boats speed, as the feet would still touch the ground, allowing for more push.
3 or more blocks deep = Slower than a player's swimming speed.
Just as all of your other ideas, these beasties are epic. I also have some ideas of my own about the Cockitrice; spawns at night, has glowing yellow eyes, and used as an exclusive mount to Goblin villages. Also, what is this Aether you speak of?
Look at my siggie :smile.gif:, the getSatisfaction post also contains the link to the forum post here, but just in case you don't feel like bothering you can find it here.[/quote]
Okay, thanks.
But do we really need a Sea Moa? I think these are good enough to give us a few year's worth of WIN.

Isn't the boat the same speed as you on the ground? I think you have the speed comparisons a little mixed up.

Hmm, still doesn't change what I meant, the swimming speed at 2 deep is only slightly slower than the player's walking speed and is faster than swimming.
I have been thinking of an idea for a while. What if there were two species that fought together. Ex: if you overlap the respawn time for the cockatrice and normal moa, and they found each other they fight. Now if you take this on a bigger scale, like 30 or 40 against each other.......... MASS CHAOS ACTIVATE!!!!!!! :tnt:. The only problem i see right now is that we only have retarded farm animals that can't hurt you, or you have the night creatures that gang up on you and eat your soul. And if you accidentally wander into something like this, everything attacks you, whether it's normally nice to you or it tries to kill you on sight, it attacks you even though you haven't done anything...as long as it's not fighting anyone else. I know this is probably going to be tough to program and work out kinks but i think it's a cool idea.
P.S. sorry if this is totally unrelated, but posting ideas on popular forums gets them seen more

I own you with 7 kinds of win.....now it's on like DONKEY KONG
It's supposed to. All of the Moa are really supposed to look like forms of Raptors or similar dinosaurs. I just didn't want to give them dinosaur names.
ok first of all, i said MOST birds don't do well in water.
second, penguins don't walk on water. They swim through it, and are very streamlined and have special waterproof feathers.
third, These Moa (that is the plural, right?) do not have a body shape built for swimming. They are built for running at high speeds hence the long legs and small body.
Moa being able to swim would be fine, but they should swim slowly. I feel that it should be just a little bit slower than you swim.
That's why I am saying to MAKE ONE that can swim/walk on water. You seem to have forgotten that Minecraft isn't a purely real-life based game and DOES have fantasy aspects. So what if birds in reality aren't good with water (also, what about Seagulls and Albatross?). Do you see birds that can make you slow down by simply looking at you? I didn't think so.
But no matter how much you disagree with the idea of a Swimming Moa, it would appear as if I got my wish granted. Check the first page.
However, it can't walk on water, and it has a massive change to it's body shape. It doesn't look too much like a Moa anymore, and more like a little Nessie.
Really, they're not really birds in the first place.

Apparently they're more like Dinosaurs xD So your whole argument that birds don't like water was irrelevant... as they aren't birds. Avian, sure. But of the prehistoric variety.
And no you don't win |:C You didn't want a Water Moa. But I did, and it was made. And I even said, "If you don't want it to walk on water, then make it swim" = u=
well it is very likely that there will be heaps of mobs, I mean heaps
there will be loads of enemies and peaceful and neutrals
these will just be another mob in the game
reminds me so much so of the australian emu o3o (and I know that the dinosaur ones you based the moa off in basically the ancestors of emus and ostriches)

two blocks or more = reduced speed
with elongated legs and bony feet there is no way these things could swim effectively or at all
exactly. That's why ducks/penguins and what-not have webbed feet or flippers instead of wings. These creatures do not.
If you want a sea mount, then go suggest one. Birds would not be good water mounts.

Of course! Go crazy.
Also: Sea Moa added! Probably a little different than everyone was imagining!
I like it, it sort of reminds me of a Pliosaur.

Connected to the sea, so I can dock my birdboat.
I like'em.

SO I WIN. HAHA!
and nice work on the sea moa, it looks cool, rather have that then a boat any day >3<
