Hi. Long time lurker, first time poster. I've read thru thousands and thousands of minecraft comments on these forums and just now felt compelled to log in.
I think I share everyones concern that the new implementation of 'powered tracks' that jeb_ is putting in may be less than ideal. I don't want to say too much without seeing his final product, but I'm feeling like it may be a rush job that he hasn't thought thru as well as some of the community. That said, I can't wait to see this 'official' implementation and what it can do.
I tend to be leaning with the consensus that it would be hasty to discontinue MC mk II now just because of jebs work. Sure, it may very well make all this obsolete but in all likelihood it won't reach this level of simple, obvious physics yet. I believe mojang honestly had no desire to revisit the minecart system yet but their hands where forced by the community. This might make the new official implementation less than ideal.
I know it will be a lot of work, but I think there is sufficient interest in the mkII project to rework it around jebs new system and keep going with it. It might be time to call is MineCarts mark III now. It's just too soon to throw in hat on this fine mod because the developers have a difference of opinion. Let's wait and see shall we?

Agreed, I have serious doubts it'll be on par with the ideas outlined in this thread. However only time will tell...
You just deleted my lame idea of my point basket! I love it! I would seriously love to see this work! You put so much thought and work into this system and I think someone (:Notch:) should really look at it. Excellent idea! If this is not implemented ... I'm sorry
When 1.5 comes out, I'm going to test his out and try to make the same things i made with this. If it doesn't work, this will be 1000x better. Also should we tweet jeb to see our minecart improvement section?
Awesome, though the booster and brake track pieces are very pricey. Perhaps each recipe makes 4?
Actually, in the current mod they do. I should probably change that in the OP.
You should also mention in the OP that the booster is currently (and perhaps permanently?) at 1 speed. Which is nagging me as the thing that Jeb didn't like

-Yes he's 100% vanilla minecraft (without the cherry) legit
-No I do not plan on setting him on fire
p.s. Based on all your responses, I won't let the topic/project die for now. We shall wait until 1.5 is released to decide the fate of MCMk.II In the meantime, I guess it's full-steam ahead for our little mod (as long as mcmodder_07 is still on board). *blows train whistle* :biggrin.gif:
Yep I'm still on working on the mod; I'm currently taking a wait and see approach to jeb's powered rails.
I support this fully as is. minecarts as is are generally useless as a person who loves exploring and hates walking places minecarts using "exploits" of the game mechanics litter my world, boosters all over the place its really unsightly.
Actually, in the current mod they do. I should probably change that in the OP.
Aye I would change the OP to reflect the current version of the booster brake as it is in the mod. It works quite well as it stands and making the OP reflect the mod would help clear up some of the current confusion.

No matter how dark the night may seem, there is always the light of hope to guide your path, you only need to allow it.
Will do. Also, I just noticed Zenox96 that you were looking for a screen recorder? If you're on a mac, I highly recommend ScreenFlow. It has a $100 price tag but there are, uh, ways to get around that. Note that I'm not insinuating in any way that you should pirate it since piracy is bad and I would never condone such things in this topic. <_< >_>
If you're on pc, the others might have better suggestions for you.

Lol thanks for the suggestion but currently i have a pc ( im also building a better computer but its AMD and not INTEL so i cant run snow leopard on it) and yeah i know some ways to get around that (know the price tag on 3DS max?)
Just another thing

For all you who are asking, the detector rail will generate a redstone signal when a minecart (any kind) is on top of it
so this doesnt even fix the main concern that we have to derail just to detect if there is a person in the cart or not
I gave that a shot once but i didnt like it because my pc wasnt the best or even close when i bought it and that was 3 years ago so it causes it to lag alot
Like many here I have my concerns about Jeb's implementation of boosters and the sensor. I've sent a few tweets his way expressing my concern. I am glad though that mine carts are finally getting some kind of attention even if they don't completely finish the job. Hopefully they'll take feedback seriously once we get our hands on it.
I don't know if they realize how limiting their system is (at least as I understand it). I've expressed my concerns about the sensors being unable to detect different cart types. Hearing now the idea that they'll be independent track types from boosters makes me wonder what are they thinking. We'll need no less than three tools to make a complete system: boosters, sensors, and we'll still need pressure plates for distinguishing occupancy. The idea that all three will be mutually exclusive really limits what can be done with them.
I'm hoping they'll listen to our concerns for the sake of everyone.
But how about wiring the booster to the button, too, so it turns Off just after the Stop track turns off.
Tick 0- button pressed.
Tick 1- Stop Block turns off. Bottom cart starts to move due to booster under it. Redstone repeater wired to the booster receives power
Tick 2- Booster turns off when it receives signal from Repeater.
Tick 3- Second cart hits track, does nothing since booster is off.
Tick ?- Button returns to normal position, Stop Track turns on, After a short delay, Booster track turns on.

It seems the video wasn't clear enough: the booster under the carts is always ON, I just turn off the break in front of it for a split second. The reason this works with the new version of the mod is I've modified the minecart physics so they can be stacked on tracks. In other words pez dispensers now work, hope that was clear enough.
MCModder, you could pass the button through an AND gate, wiring it's output back around through a NOT to the AND's second input, so that only the first moments work.
As for Jeb's implementation, I have my doubts. But I'm going to wait and see.

OK, then this is idea the greatest :tongue.gif:

Note: it will dispense multiple carts if you use a button because the delay is too long.

I'm curious- I want you to explain it now. :-)
