I would love to see this as a server mod. It would be a lot neater than minecart mania. My one question is why do you use a plank instead of a stick? And would the track recipes make 16 like normal? Or just one at a time?

I'd like to see this as a server mod as well. I haven't heard from Glitchfinder recently so I assume he's still buried in school like I am. I chose planks for the crafting recipe to emphasize the material cost of each track. The current version of the mod (still in progress) has recipes set to craft one special track piece per "craft" but I plan on increasing it to 3 or 4 track pieces per craft.

My I will be sure to tell my friend who owns the server if this goes serverside. And I didn't think much about the cost. For some reason I thought planks were easier than sticks. And 4 sounds pretty good
I like this idea but I think that the powered mine cart should be even more reworked. Like with a throttle control that you set in the right click box (where you place the fuel) with a max speed of 3/4ths current max speed of minecarts going down hill. when going uphill at 3/4ths speed it would be going at 1/2th max speed. Also each gauge of speed (say 1/4th,1/2th,3/4ths) each use a different amount of fuel to. To me with such a thing they should be somewhat expensive to run since the invention of charcoal blew away the not enough coal problem that some people have had. (like me.... could rarely find enough coal...)
Just a small grammar fix, but under the "Occupied Minecart Detector" recipe it says "8x smoothstone + 1x redstone = 1x empty cart detector block" Though it should say this "8x smoothstone + 1x redstone = 1x occupied cart detector block"

Hm, I agree that the Powered Minecart could probably use even more tuning for better balance but I'm of the opinion that a throttle system would add too much complexity. The cart should be a moderate upgrade from the basic un-powered cart and not a "be-all, end-all" cart solution. I'll think on this. Perhaps once I'm done fixing the detector block mechanics I'll reexamine the Powered Cart mechanics.

As stated in the thread, Glitchfinder has been MIA for a while now. The last working test mod broke with the Beta 1.3 release. If you still have a copy of the 1.2 files around you could test this but otherwise we will have to wait for Glitchfinder to come out of hiding :wink.gif:

No matter how dark the night may seem, there is always the light of hope to guide your path, you only need to allow it.
What about a turntable? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Turntable_%28rail%29
Moves when powered by redstone.
I would think it would be crafted like this.
The grey would be stone and the sticks would be rails. This would make a one block long turntable. x2 x2 x2 x2 x2 x2 x2 x2 x2
This would make a 2 block long turntable.
etc...
All the way to a limit of, for example, nine blocks.
This probably needs a lot of revising before it's a great idea, but it's the start.

The modification was broken with Beta 1.3. It hasn't been redeveloped for Beta 1.3, as yet. Presumably, Glitchfinder will get it done when he has the time available.

Hmmm... pondering how this would work or how it would work. Maybe just a 4 directional one would be feasible. When the cart enters the Turntable it spins once, then sends you one your way (most likely at a reduced speed, easily fixed with a booster). Once we have that framed out we can start figuring out different uses and mechanics.

-Yes he's 100% vanilla minecraft (without the cherry) legit
-No I do not plan on setting him on fire
This is 99% exactly the thing I was hoping to see to make minecart networks viable, because the current glitch-based system doesn't work reliably and takes up too much space.
I very much hope this gets implemented, to the point where I have voted (?) for it on the "Get satisfaction" site.
So I took the time and made a mock up of the different speed settings we discussed a while back. Turns out I've not very good at this kinda stuff... Here's the result anyhow

Perhaps 1 yellow for 20%, 2 yellow for 40%, 1 orange for 60%, 1 yellow and 1 orange for 80%, and 2 orange for 100%.
Just to make the distinction more complete, as it is now, the last few are too similar to tell a difference easily.

^This - there isn't enough difference between 60%, 80% and 100%
I was trying to go off of Ehonimus' idea for the colors

FIxed. Thanks for pointing that out. :-)

Good Job and Good Luck!

Also, I'm usually not one to hack a thread, but I have one on putting blocks on minecarts and moving them around, so if you're interested http://www.minecraftforum.net/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=247135
