I'd actually like to see tracks that you could connect, to make sidings before any of the above. Then I could put a loop at the end of one long stretch of track to turn my train around without dismounting etc.

Something has been bothering me Ehnonimus... "Mr Creeper says vote for this on GetSatisfaction" is there an official topic for this on GetSatisfaction?
Edit: I voted for one I saw you post on. but it doesn't feel very... official.

i dont know if anyone else has but i have tweeted notch (markus) and jeb_ (Jens) about this notch ussally dicards alot of other peoples ideas but jeb is a huge contributing factor to implementing others ideas :smile.gif:
if anyone wants to follow me and a freinds own the twitter account under minecraftisme
were also setting up a site slowly under minecraftis.indieis.me which should be fun and ill feature this on the front page.
if people possibly retweet the post
this might get done alot quicker.

The one in the code box now just gives a 'click to view image' as seen in the signature above me (Note: This sentence was true at the time of posting, less it become fallacy in the near future).

Thanks for the warning. I'll update it right after this post.
In other news, I still haven't received a response from Glitchfinder regarding his continued interest in helping create the MCMk.II mod. Since it's been over two weeks since I've last heard from him, I'm going to assume that he's lost interest or is no longer able to work on the project. He did some great work when he was active and I'm very thankful for his efforts, but I think it's time that the project moves on.
As such, I'm putting out an official request for experienced modders who are interested in making the Minecarts Mk.II proposal into a mod. Ideally, I'd prefer individuals with experience working on SMP since the intention is to make this mod available for server play. If you, or someone you know might be interested, feel free to PM me and I'll replay as soon as I can.
If you guys have any questions, comments or concerns, feel free to ask away. :-)
Oh, and I'm still working on writing up the new Detector Block description/mechanics and making new visuals for the OP.
so when is it coming out ???
beast of a mod :smile.gif: to you sir
Minecarts Mk.II is not a mod (yet). It's a suggestion for something we really want Notch to add to the actual game. However, we plan on making a mod based on the proposal so we have a proof-of-concept to show how it works and to get more attention for it. I hope to have something released by the end of April, possibly May, but that depends if I can find a programmer willing to mod it for us in time. We'll see...
In the mean time, feel free to add one our banners into your signature to show your support! :-)
one thing you should consider adding is a booster track piece that increases the cart speed any way it comes from and have a slow down piece which does the same too so you can have one way cart tracks for single player.
I love this idea and I hope it becomes part of the vanilla Minecraft. I also just finished reading this hole topic.
I would be happy to help code for this mod, however I am still learning the language so it might be a while before I can actually do anything to help it.

glad to see that it shouldnt be long now and there should be a banner now :smile.gif:
BUT
what happens to the graphic for a booster when you get
= track
= booster

this would be up to the programmer to decide which direction would be default when given the two perpendicular directions or just be placed facing the way you aim at it (probably this option)

this is very nice and i hope its gets implemented

It is already possible to design tracks which do this no matter which way your coming from if you look at to speed up and to slow down just reverse the boosters in the same design

Actually the player decides the direction of the track when it's placed. It would use similar mechanics to how signs are placed. Essentialy, when you place the track piece, it will try and point towards the player in the nearest north/south/east/west direction.

Yup! One of the goals of MCMk.II is to keep the number of additions to the game at a minimum. I hoped that by limiting the number of pieces it would encourage players to be more creative when constructing cart systems. After all, that's what Minecraft is all about, use basic blocks and pieces to build cool stuff!
All right. I'm sorry for my absence guys, and I have to apologize for what I'm going to say next. I've been brought into a programming project, the details of which I'm not able to actually disclose. What I can tell you is that there is potentially a great deal of money on the line, so I haven't had any time to work on the mod, and won't have any in the forseeable future.
That being said, anyone has my full permission to decompile the last version of the mod I posted in this thread and rewrite it however they want, although I suggest that whoever does so make certain to follow the specifications set forth in the updated versions of this thread, and that people don't compete with each other over getting to make it.
As one final note, I would like to give some advice to any modder who picks this up. If you will follow the updated specifications, you will have to convert the new tracks from blocks to block entities, so that you can store not only the direction it is facing, but also it's current power state and speed setting.
I also advise anyone who picks this up to pay special attention to any edits they make to the minecart entity class, since I added some code to remove the boosting glitch, and fiddling with it could easily break it again.
Thank you for your astounding patience, and once again, I am sorry that I cannot continue work on this mod.

I'm looking for assistance in making some in-game mockups/props for screen shot purposes. I have all the texture files needed, but modding knowledge. If you have any experience in this, your help would be much appreciated. (Scroll to the bottom of the post in the link for relevant info) [EDIT] LarvaLounge's suggestion might provide a suitable alternative. I'll look into it tomorrow. Thanks for the quick feedback!
While i am still a complete java newb i am capable of making mockup props for this. I have been working on trying to expand my java knowledge through application and reading minecraft's source code so your proposal has been a great mod to try to develop so. I can post an image of what i have so far: I have finished the mock up set and if you want it just PM me

Zenox96, will this use modloader, or will it be it's own mod that does not require any other mods? I suggest that it be at least modloader compatible.
Eventually it will be a full mod if i get good enougth to do the complex coding and will be compatible with modloader but that might be a while before it is however i can try to put it into modloader now just to see if i can work out the kinks for you
EDIT
Hmmm, this seems harder than adding the blocks i made into the game lol
@Ehnonimus I was wondering what would you like the light level created by the track be? equal to a Redstone torch, slightly more?
@Zenox96: The mockups look great! I've already sent a PM. I'd just make the light levels the same as RS torches. I'll try and get to making new Detector Block textures this week.
Really sorry if this has already been posted.
If you can stack boosters, e.g. start at 50% max speed, reach full booster, goto 150% max speed, reach 2nd full booster, goto 250% max speed, like that. It'll probably end up going light speed and crash the game due to not being able to load the chunks fast enough, you should test and fiddle with it and see the max speed before it crashes and make that the limit, or even better, set an in game limiter that you can change.
Last but not least, If say the max speed is 500%, ROLLERCOASTER XD!!!
Or shove a creeper into a minecart and launch im off a cliff at max speed into a laughpool with beneath it that can be triggered by redstone.
Sorry for the long post but I felt like posting this. :tongue.gif: Thanks if you read all of this.
