I like it but theres one problem, fog, on slow laptops and such, it would lag so much if the fog was low (high seeing distance) so, how about being able to set the maximum fog distance? Just a suggestion, but apart from that, good idea.
I spawned in on my multiplayer beta server and this was in progress. I saw the fire move up that hill and eat up a couple trees too. I guess it just started from the lava lake there and spread up the hill, so maybe a bit of a coincidence, but still cool. The pics just show the remains, and it's just been hanging out for the last couple of hours. I hope it doesn't burn out cuz it looks really awesome at night :tongue.gif:
So, I hope Notch does end up adding disasters, as much as it would suck to have them destroy all your crap :tongue.gif:
I love this idea!It would create the concept of "You are NEVER safe."and it would bring more excitement to the game.Imagine exploring a semi-shallow cave near your base, your hear a BOOM! and your base is totally obliterated!
And could there also be disasters in the Nether?Like lava floods, fire rain(but don't we have enough of that from Ghasts? No. :biggrin.gif:) and falling Netherstone? Then the Nether wouldn't even be safe when you build a nice cozy base.Anyways, this is an awesome idea, and I'd love it.I hope Notch sees this! :biggrin.gif:

Grats, you took a very useful concept and made it stupid and pointless.
Fog is the only way atm to reduce ingame rendering, by making that not optional some players will experience lag, I for one cannot play without any fog because I lag while just walking around.
Electricity is a good idea but it should be the only way to power redstone, I am so surprised that no one comments on how levers or redstone torches seem to magically create power. Electricity should be able to be farmed, maybe also wind farming and maybe even geo thermal energy, adds more of a eco friendly out look towards technology, however it does remove the medieval theme which did happen to die when powered minecarts came into play.
Now what about wind?
It would move the player and mobs at a rate of 1block/sec for moderate, 2b/s strong 4b/s severe and 10b/s for hurricane class winds.
And then there would be a way to measure winds: a flag and weather cock.
Would make a flag, which would tell how fast wind is going by how high it is.
Would make a weather cock, which would only tell which direction the wind is going.
