I was thinking about a way to make different varieties of food more useful without adding a hunger system.
What is the way?
Well,it goes something like this
Food restores health but instead of an instant heal it gives a regenerative factor.(With the exception of golden apples,they do what they still do)
E.g. Eating a pork would heal you 3 units of health over 30 seconds.
What does it do for the variety stuff?
Different types of food restore different amount of health with different times.
Like eating pork would heal 3 units over 30 seconds but eating wheat will heal 5 units over 3 minutes
Different food could also have special properties like apple will prevent diseases(If ever added) for a day or Broccoli would heal 5 units over 30 seconds but will cause player to throw up.
Pfft,This system is easily crossed by just packing heckloads of the best type of food
I thought that one out too.
The food will lose it's effect if you eat it for too much time.
Like eating many broccoli would make you not throw up but will decrease the healing factor.
If you eat too much apples you will be immune to the effect of them thus no more disease immunity.
Eating too much pork would reduce the healing factor.
So variety in diet is much more helpful than eating heckloads of the same thing.
Are people really serious? This is just an easy problem to solve -.-
I support this thread. What Vbhor has suggested will make the culinary part of Minecraft tasteful. People who want professions can add "chef" to that list. (but no ranking system)
All that is going to be made are medicine then. Which instantly heals you. Or make some more certain foods that instantly heal you. Easy as that.
This is one of the best ideas on here. It is well balanced, brings about more perspective and thus ideas, and it does not chop off a special type of group on here.
Builders can still build. Easy. This will not impede it.
Those who want a ranking system or profession's will have something similar. Maybe we can craft a pot where we can make our or creations. This also adds to the alchemical and chemical point of the game.
Those who want Rune's and or magic in minecraft will not really be affected.
Warrior's and adventuring will be more exciting. Okay this makes it challenging and makes the game quite unique.
Also, no it should not be a toggled option. That is stupid if everything can be toggled.
This idea fits with the game's idea of surviving by using raw resources.
Vbhor I will sig this when there are examples of food, and a in a clean professional layout.
Maybe you should be more careful when battling then?
As convenient as instantly regaining hearts is, it doesn't make any sense and pretty much makes you invincible if you are carrying around a good-sized supply of food. Drawing the regeneration of hearts out means that you have to be much more tactical with your eating, and can't charge into an army of mobs without any protection except for your massive supply of bread/pork/stew/fish. I don't like all this about disease immunity and vomiting, but drawing out the healing effect of food over a period of time (no more than a minute, I think) does make the game more interesting and more tactical.
Worst beginning to an argument ever. Did you know Minecraft is a video game?
It would add more tedium than tactics. We need better enemies to make combat tactical.
yea, I want to see better combat and smarter enemies instead of food being changed. farteh16 (I think that's their name...) posted a thread of their ideas on combat, and it's quite good. I personally want to make a few changes and repost it. But yea, more combat, less real food.
