Meteorites should crash down very rarely with special amazing magical metals and other resources inside. It should always be a mystery as to what it may contain.

In the beginning, Notch created the Nether and the Earth, and in it he made a man of sand and called him Steve. Notch made Steve strong so that he may punch wood, and lo, Steve was to have dominion over all square things.
Haha, I like the mob idea. They should spawn little moonpeople.
However, I think the meteorites should come down and embed themselves in a little crater, and need to be mined out, rather than spawn items which could disappear. It might be cool if they're covered by a little layer of obsidian, though, like a little outside casing. Perhaps they could spawn lava as well upon impact.

I'm not advertising, but this is just a rip off idea from RuneScape :sleep.gif:
I've never played RuneScape. I actually don't even know what the game looks like.
Either way, it's a kickass idea, and RuneScape can go die in a fire.

No, no, they should be special new metals and materials which only spawn from meteorites, and they should glow and have magic properties and stuff. One should be able to make a special sword of out meteor metal.

I played a long while back, and they had something JUST like this :s I just think it shouldn't have any ideas relating to RuneScape because more stupid people will try to compare this awesome game to "Run-Escape" (see what I did thar?), otherwise, this would be a good idea. But spaceships or something would be pretty cool. (And yes, I have seen people compare these two games .___.

That could work too. But at least leave the random (but low, like 1/1000) chance of a creeper bouncing out to say Ollo.
Or maybe a new special mob, like moonpeople or something.

Blah, who cares what stupid people think? It'd be a shame to fail to implement a good idea into a great game for fear that people would point out similarities to another game.

It also just doesn't seem "minecraft-ish" to me. Minecraft is all about exploration, so I think instead of space objects coming to you, you could go into space >:biggrin.gif:. I just cant see meteors flying/spawning out of thin air. I still like the 'moon people' and new space materials ideas!
What about encasing the meteorite in iron blocks instead of obsidian? IRL meteorites are mainly iron. Valuable elements could be placed in the center.
That's a cool idea, too. Though meteorites don't always look all that much like our shiny iron blocks, they look more like obsidian.

Lol, there are so much I disagree with here, I don't know where to begin.
Special magic metals from meteorites is very medieval, very legendary magic type stuff. Knights used to craft swords from metal they found in meteorites believing it to have special magical properties.
Also, it's kind of weird that you like the space aliens idea, yet you don't think meteorites with special resources with magic properties is very MineCraft-ish.
Also, why can't you see meteors flying / spawning out of the sky? It would spawn, like anything else, and arc across the sky in a blaze, and then impact with a crater.
And finally, MineCraft isn't as much about exploring as it is about mining and crafting, yanno? :smile.gif:

But what if I want a meteor to come crashing through my house holding evil croc-people with acid spitting abilities that can melt blocks?
For one, it would happen very, very rarely.
For two, on the rare occasions one does crash down, it's unlikely that it will land on your house.
And for three, if it does land on your house and spawn epic acid spitting monsters, that would be AWESOME.

I don't think new ores would work if they were as 'super rare' as you said. Finding ores should be about how much you explore/mine, not about a random event.
I think they'd work if they were super rare, and perhaps virtually indestructible.
Meteorite falls down once every 60 MineCraft days or so, and if you catch it, you get an ore or two. After a few meteorites, you could make a virtually indestructible, super powerful sword with magical powers. After all, you can still die and lose it if you're not careful. And if you're playing for that long on one map, and are lucky enough to spot a meteorite and harvest the materials, it would be well worth it.

Meteorites should have adamantite in it. I think that material is indestructibe. It could be a silverish blue or kinda cyanish like diamond
it's already been sugested and it's a bad idea......
A meteor crater biome however................................
