So I think it'd be really cool if we could have big ol' grand looking castle gates. Maybe ones that we could design ourselves, at some point in the future, just so that gates have some personal spice. They're bigger than plain ol' doors, and as such probably warrant more options for customization. But for now, I imagine you can just do this:

[]
where = door.
The other thing that irks me is that when I make a wheat farm, animals trample it. And when I put a nice fence around it to prevent them from doing so, I can't get inside because fences are goddamn 1.5m high. And when I knock down some of the fence to put doors up, it looks really crappy. So, fence gates.

where = gate.
EDIT: Forgot to add this. Lever-operated drawbridges would also be really awesome, as well as lever-operated portcullises -- that's this:
HOWEVER, if you stack the fences up to 2 blocks high, the door doesnt look so bad :biggrin.gif:
I'll try that!

EDIT: Just for fence gates, do you actually wana make them out of SIX castle gates? i would suspect, that it would be done from 6 wood pieces or 2 door nex to each other. Also, for the Castle gates, I don't think, it will be possible to put them on ground, because they would have a base bigger than 1x1 - you wouldn't knou, where it will apear, and how it will be rotated...
That's true, it could get sticky, but I imagine it wouldn't be really hard to iron out, given that paintings can range from 1x1 to 4x4 and we don't really have huge problems with those. It could depend on where your character is standing.

Oh, sorry. I meant to portray 6 fenceposts, not 6 castle gates. Fixed!
The way they could work is you can lay them into eachother and when one is activated all contected ones are activated and go down to the lowest one, then they rise up untill they hit something that stops them
I have a submarine bay that it would be perfect for....
but big doors and trap doors (doors in roof/floor) are seriously seriously needed!!!

Hmm, hasn't Notch stated that when he would release block entities in the distant future, draw-bridges and moving fence-gates would be possibilities in the future?
I like the idea of gates. However, I notice on most of these suggestion posts, people actually put what the recipe is to make the object. DO YOU REALLY THINK NOTCH WILL HAVE TROUBLE DESIGNING A RECIPE?! That absolutely is the most trivial aspect of designing a 3D MMO game from scratch.
Ok done venting.
+1 for both ideas.
+1 for pulling your head out of your ___ and realizing Notch doesn't need you to design a recipe.

I too have experienced the pain and suffering of the eyesore that is a door + fence

Not saying you can use that in SP but I'm saying notch could take the code from it and add it to minecraft.
