This would be pretty awesome. The only downside to this is, if you were in Multiplayer, this would make it impossible to hide your portal.
However, with the "corruption-stopping" measures suggested, this is an amazing idea. Even if there was no way to stop it, it only means that people will have to take a bit more care in concealing their portals... Like, say, placing it in the middle of a sizable underground shrine.
As an addendum, though, it may just be easier (programming-wise) to change the appearance of the blocks, as is done with the grass and tree block textures in different biomes, rather than outright changing the block itself. As I've said many times before on this forum, though, I'm not a programmer, and have no idea if it would, in fact, be easier, or if changing the blocks is hard.
@_joe_:
Sir, you may want to read the entire thread before lodging a complaint. If you had read, you'd have seen that "the whole world" would not, in fact, change, but rather, only blocks of a certain type within a 6-to-10 radius would change. If you'd still find issue with the fact that the buildings you've established within this radius would be "ruined," might I suggest that you either: A) Not build within this radius, :cool.gif: Not build your structures out of dirt and sand, or C) Not build the portal near your buildings.

I'm happy people like the idea, I wish it would be implemented, it's already in getsatisfaction i just hope notch or someone from mojang gave it a look at least.
As a way to prevent the spread of corruption, have it unable to infect blocks that have powered redstone on them, in a way to replicate the typical sealing circle from various media?
In addition to the zombie pigmen spawning, I also think it'd be cool if ghasts also more frequently spawned.
What do you mean by taking someone to another dimention. We're currently perceiving 4 dimentions; height, width, depth and time. We area probably in each heigher dimention, but we can't see it. So if you would take us to another dimention, do you mean just taking all of these away and placing us on 1 new one? What you're proposing is a paradox, as us 4-dimentional creatures cannot fit on a 1-dimentional line.
If we ignore you not writing in plurial, then you might have meant to take us to other dimentionS. In which you would transfer us to 4 totally other dimentions, which we cannot perceive. Meaning we'd be blind and senseless.
No, what you probably meant was an alternate universe, but staying off our 4 dimentions. You should correct that.
I will take this as a joke, anyone here understands what that phrase means used in this context. Not to change the dimensions in which you reside, but to alter the value of what could easily be considered the 5th dimension in minecraft(x,y,z,time,[nether or overworld]).
I take people don't want to read all the thread but most have been saying what's already in the main post, the corruption is limited and besides may a few Z-pigmen appear i said to increase ghast aparition occurring to.

I think that would be left to the player you can easily create a sealing circle design but stop the corruption with the stated ways, making it look like the circle is doing the job.

Just an alternate option because I think that would look better than surrounding it with water.
I saw this, loved the idea, and thought of a few additions if someone made this a mod:
Inverse: water could become lava, diamonds could become obsidian, those are the only 2 combos that wouldn't totally break the idea.
Dementia: as you stay in the portal area, your screen slowly starts to get effected, starting with a minor overlay of netherrack (transparent, so it looks like you're seeing things) going to the point where you hear demented screams of suffering while you see horrifically dismembered animals pounce at you, all while the screen fades in red then black in mad succession.
Guardians: the netherrack can get a new ability: the ability to remove ONE heart if an entity called a "nether tentacle" whacks you
for an example of how a nether tentacle is made:
[>>-i>] = a kind of barb, needs to be made if a mod is made for this, as I imagine a bloody scythe-like claw.
=netherrack, self explanatory
[>>-i>]
[]
[] []
it has 5 hearts, and attacks by whipping out a maximum of 10 blocks, when killed, drops 13 netherrack and 1 "netherbarb" which is what it attacks with, these can be crafted into reusable arrows with their own ability to corrupt.
Seeds of Sin: this is self explanatory, any crops within X blocks or netherrack will grow appearing ashen and dead, and will actually KILL you if not refined through a furnace
Runemasters: this is what would really put the icing on the cake, a 1 in X chance of a man wearing a robe with runes on the sleeves, he kills ghasts if he spawns with a blue robe, farm animals, you, and trees if he has a red robe, and everything if he has a black robe
Nether TNT: by crafting netherrack around TNT like so:
you can create bombs that will have 10 times the radius and corrupt things that survive the blast, this would make for some good videos, but it's a greifer's wet dream, so it would have to be kept secret that it can be made.

I'd think the opposite in fact... it'd probably be easier to have a changing state from one instance to another than to have to muck around with textures and such. But I don't deal with any of the C languages, so I could be wrong there.
All aside, I really like this idea, especially the fog!

All of this is too dark for a minecraft idea. Probably will be shot down almost immediately.
No one will ever agree to having diamonds turn into obsidian.
No one will ever agree with an effect that automatically kills the player.
The idea of a runemaster is best saved for the magic-based threads and not this one.
Nether TNT is way too overpowered.

I once saw a chicken push a creeper off of a cliff. I never looked at chickens the same way ever again. That is of course until I needed feathers.

Yeah, I also preffer this idea to stay as cosmetic, maybe the netnther can be a tnt that sets everything around(inside radius) on fire, of course having netherack instead of sand, you should make a post with those ideas.
Should hellstone in the nether, near the portal, turn to cobblestone?
Slowsand to dirt?
Yeah
No actually, if this happened, it would cause a paradox Earth like land in the nether spawns nether like land on earth? the portal area would be the oppisite world's stuff on both sides and then would sort of paradox since they would then turn back and keep flipping .

I'm not sure about this idea, it seems that one of the main reasons you go to the Nether is to get netherrack/soul sand, if you could get that in the normal world just by creating a portal it doesn't really seem fair.
Just my opinion. Nice graphics though, I can see you put plenty of work into this idea :smile.gif:

No, if's in the nether netherack and slowsand changes, if's in the overworld dirt and cobblestone changes, nothing more.

this would be too slow to be actualy useful for harvesting the blocks. would take several days.
Maybe if it were an option? Like.. I've had some worlds where that'd just.. upset the way I had things made. But I do like the idea, especially the fog.

Thats why I would like to keep the block exchanging as a second thing, the most important part is just the fog to give it more ambient. Of course it's not hard to keep the corruption in check so i don't see much problem there.

that's all I have, so give me some feedback.
