Hey guys sorry if anyone has already suggested this but i have an idea for a portal to the aether! It would be made of gold..basically just a gold version of a nether portal with maybe water instead of fire like...
It's made of lightstone so people have to go into the nether to get to the aether.
Still feels that is one of the night so bright (oh ha ha ha) ideas. You shouldn't have to go to the nether to get supplies for a portal that you can't even make inside the nether.
If you was going for hard to get to, then 14 gold blocks makes it harder or as hard to get there as it is with 14 Lightstone blocks.
I was thinking that since the Aether seems to be located above the overworld, rather than in a separate dimension, you should just build up to it. You could be transported to it while standing on glowstone at the top of the overworld.
And she's buying a stairway... to the Aether?

And yet, despite what it seems, it's not.
So you just kind of magically get teleported to the overworld upon falling out of the Aether (in mid-air, above the overworld)? Seems kind of suspicious...

Yep. Instead of bedrock on the bottom of the aether, it's just a big gigantic one way portal back to the ceiling of the overworld.

So should mining out the top of the Nether lead to the bottom of the overworld? Why is there a gigantic portal at the bottom of the Aether? Do you fall through a natural rift in dimensions, or something? Sounds as good a reason as any, I guess.

I like the idea except the fact that the new stuff sounds HARDER to get then stuff in nether, soil can be gained with any way, yet you make soul sand and cloud sand thing sound harder to get, dont do this, make it easier to gain stuff, then i will be happy!
Are you seriously trying to claim that something that increases your speed or decreases the speed of whatever gets stuck in it and keeps them from being sble to jump, and something that enables the creation of pitfalls should be as easy to gather as dirt, that does nothing?
(Notch, are you thinking of adding the aether?)
Maybe. I kind of need a way to make it interesting, because the Nether isn't really interesting yet, so if I just add another dimension that's boring, then, yeah...

Interesting?
The nether is just plain out fun! Its hilarious watching some of the unusual mobs around there; and just getting your blow off a cliff or out of the roof. :biggrin.gif:
Anyways; love the idea. I think it could be a place of more peace than the nether would ever. Lol

I have to say, the light-stone solution seems like a good one to me.
The staging means that people have to at least properly check out the different realms and their capabilities before deciding which they want to spend most time in. Plus, Light & Dark, Light-stone and Obsidian just seems to work well as an artistic concept.
But Gold is the overworld equivelent to Obsidian. You shouldn't be forced to explore one area just to get to another in an Open sandbox game that has no direction. Obisidan is not Lightstone's overworld oppisit. Obsidian (as cool as it might be) does not negate any light on the blocks it is placed by. Just since it glows light, does not make it the best choice.
On top of that, Fourteen (or 10) gold blocks is at lot harder to get then 14 (or 10) Obsidian Blocks. Meaning most people would most likely get to the Nether way before the Aether.
Finally, the Two places are ment to be OPPISITS or anti-versions of each other. It doesn't make sence that you need to use materials from one to get to the other when you can't even make the portal in that realm. You have to go to a netrual realm first.
The change to soul sand also screws over the nether a bit. There are whole walls in the Nether made of soulsand which you need to jump up at times. Soul sand making it unjumpable makes the nether a lot more deadly since you won't be able to jump up these walls. I'm all for the challenge in the nether but at least it should be fair.
You realize that your argument of "They aren't opposites so it doesn't work" blows up when you try to reapply it to your desired portal?
If they MUST be opposites to work then let's look at all the things Obsidian does.
It's impervious to explosions, REQUIRES diamond to mine, and has the longest mining time of anything.
So to be opposite, the block needs to be destroyed in an explosion, require nothing to mine, and have the shortest mining time.
Congratulations you've just inferred that SAND is a better Aether Portal than Lightstone.
Im honestly confused as to why people are hating the glowstone idea..
What direction?
Sure, minecraft has no clear direction. Its an open sandbox game, where people go around, doing what they want, when they want. Since when does making a stop to the nether change this?
We want the Aether to be complete oppisite of Nether!
Obsidian isnt hard to get. You find it in most tunnels, and its only time consuming to obtain it. Its almost the complete oppistite for glowstone. Its easy to find, but hard to mine. Its either 100s of blocks high, or around lava. But once you get to it, it takes seconds to obtain. Not for the only fact that it "glows".
Resemblence!
The Aether is going to resemble the glowstone! Its going to be bright, airy, and have a feeling of "holy"ness to it. Such as Nether being to obsidian, which is dark, empty, and for lack of better word, evil! GoldBlocks, for example, arn't going to represent this very much.
I honestly dont know why this is causing such a fiasco..
No, it's not. Not even remotely. There isn't even a single method through which you could claim gold as an opposite to Obsidian that I couldn't claim lightsone as a better one.
Dude. GET RID OF THE SOUL SAND THEN. You can still mine it or shovel it or whatever you want. Or instead of trying to jump up the walls, break the wall down until you're off the patch of soul sand, and THEN jump. Or find a DIFFERENT route. How are people still having problems with this concept?

Uh, no he didn't. I can break glowstone faster without a tool than sand, and I bet that stuff breaks easy when there's an explosion involved.

Except that Glowstone is in the Nether. Which would force you to travel to the Nether before the Aether.
Which is exactly against what he was arguing.
And what he was arguing is that you should be able to reach the Aether from the Overworld alone.
Using his criteria to find the perfect block, that exists in the Overworld, Sand is the best idea, not Gold.

I was turning his argument on itself Grey.
Yeah, but if you want to get REALLY opposite, then you need to also factor in the fact that you can't obtain obsidian in the Nether(no water to chill the lava with) but you can in the Overworld and Glowstone can't be obtained in the Overworld (just doesn't naturally occur at all) and it can be obtained from the Nether.
I'm just pointing out that you don't NEED to turn his argument on itself, it already does that on its own.
i think its a perfect idea it will probably bring many new ideas for mob traps with the new types of blocks but i noticed something you have to go into the nether get light stones and go back into the regular world just to go there i was thinking that just like obsidian but use mossy cobblestone but i do think its a good idea i really like it
No, Moss Stone is PLANNED for the future to be able to be made from Cobblestone, most likely from having another Moss Stone next to it. Doesn't mean it's available now. And personally, it's hard as hell to find a dungeon. It's not hard to find lava or water to make a portal to the nether with, nd once you get there, it's not hard to find Glowstone.
For all these people who are going "why should you have to go to the Nether first? just use XYZ block that is harder to FIND instead." Invariably it's things like Marble, that doesn't exist yet, Gold, that while it's easy to find 5 or 6 but a LOT harder to find 90 that you would need to craft JUST ONE portal, or Moss Stone, that requires you to find a dungeon (which is an even worse pain in the ass than finding the 90 gold) The response I have is this;
The objective of Glowstone for the portal is to create staging. Yes, STAGING. This is not taboo in a sandbox game, and certainly not Minecraft, that requires you to make a wooden pickxe to mine stone, a stone pickaxe to mine iron, and an iron pickaxe to mine diamond. Those are all STAGING. Provided you put your nose down and don't **** around, you can likely have a diamond pickaxe within the first 15 minutes to half an hour of playing. From here, it would likely take another 15 minutes to half an hour to craft a bucket, get some water, find a pool of lava and turn it to obsidian before mining it with said pickaxe.(yes, you could use buckets and make forms, but that actually takes longer unless you decide to craft 5 or 10 buckets, or unless you're okay placing the portal right next to where you found the pool of lava) Once in the Nether, it is not difficult AT ALL to locate the glowstone clusters scattered about the nether. It will likely take another hour or so (depending on how well prepared you are, and whether you have your difficulty set to anything other than peaceful or not) to get to them and mine the 90 pieces of glowstone dust that you need (this task could become easier if glowstone is made to drop more than 1 dust and/or if glowstone sand is implemented)
that same amount of time would almost CERTAINLY require anywhere from twice as long to multiple DAYS worth of mining to find the gold or mossy cobblestone that would be needed.
Accept the Staging, it actually makes it EASIER for players to get to the Aether because it provides a clear route for getting there. Anything else is "wander around and hope you find this random block" and if you really hate the Nether that bad, turn your difficulty down to peaceful when you go there.
With the Implementation of Lapus Lazuli. I could almost see that as being the block of choice, but it still runs into the same issue that you're wandering around HOPING to stumble onto it, instead of knowing exactly where you need to go and what you need to do.
would like to see that float sand implemented Cause if That float sand Could... Move and keep the stuff ontop of it On it WE could make blastdoors outta obsidian with it. if it would react to redstone And allowed stuff ontop of it to move with it but I like the idea
